    I always like zugzwang problems. I think they are called "blockade" because you dont theat anything but anyway...

    Very nice! Got it by looking for a way to pin the g7 pawn if the king moves to h8, which meant there was only one candidate move.

      @abramosia 4 дні тому +1

      Same. First move I tried for the reason you mentioned, it worked.
      I reckon he should focus more on how to find the good move (like you did) instead of focusing on brute-force ruling out bad moves.

    Sure I did, I only forgot that the move leaves the rook unprotected. But that provrd not to be a problem either

    I saw the qe5 move almost immediately, but for wome reason I just couldn't see how kh8 led to mate for a little while. I kind of completely forgot that the pawn was pinned, so rxh6 just evaded my gaze. I did catch it eventually though.

    'easy' is relative to how long one spends looking for it. If by easy you mean 10 seconds, then no, it is no easy. If by easy you mean 10 minutes, then yes. It's all relative

    I need to find the program your using to play out these boards, because all I could figure out in my head were all the ways things went wrong. Ah well, I still feel like I'm (marginally) improving.

    A knowledge of the common mating positions helps with this one. That allows you to see that White can abandon his rook because if Black captures it, Qf5 mates on the second move.

    Beautiful. I didn't find it even after five minutes of hard thinking.

    • @csbenzo
      @csbenzo 4 дні тому +1

      It’s actually quite a pretty problem considering the small number of pieces. Quite often experience helps in solving these 2 movers, i.e. check is almost never the first move, so can be dismissed as an option straightaway, whereas one would never do that over the board.
      While I got this one fairly quickly (because I’ve seen similar themes like it in the past), I must admit technically as simple 2 movers I only solved simply by doing every plausible move and a process of elimination. So I’m on your side here.

    • @andreasboe4509
      @andreasboe4509 3 дні тому

      @@csbenzo The first thing I try with two-movers is underpromotion to a knight, which is quite unnatural in most situations.

    • @csbenzo
      @csbenzo 3 дні тому

      @@andreasboe4509 Thanks for your polite reply. Yes, the look for under promotion to a Knight is a favourite theme employed by problem composers. Just knowing that can save a lot of time.
      I once had a group of students who were quite good at solving 2 move chess problems, to the point where they became quite arrogant. I meanly slipped in a problem by Sam Lloyd where the only way to solved the problem was under promotion to a Bishop. It took the students a while but to their credit they solved this problem.

    Looked at white could do and moving the queen sideways two places was not good.
    Then looked at what black could do and the problem was solved easily.
    Move the queen sideways but three places.

      Have you ever tried to compose a problem ? It is not so easy. You must respect some composition rules. The first move (called the key) must be unique, and can't be a check or a move that restrict the black play. You must avoid unecessary pieces. It is far from easy !
