NOTE: Currently this adapter does not fully support continuous auto focus on Sony E-mount cameras. Results vary by camera model, lens model and firmware version.
If you're aiming for the filmmakers market, maybe you should have gone with the ND filter going in the same direction as an iris in professionnal video lenses. Would make the handling of it soooo much more natural for pros.
Unfortunately it starts at two stops of light loss. This is because we chose to design the adapter so the variable ND was integrated into it--it doesn't swing out like other adapters do.
We do offer one. Unfortunately the auto Fusion versions is sold out: fotodioxpro.com/products/ef-sne-fsn-plt But if you're using manual Canon EF lenses, we still have the manual version in stock: fotodioxpro.com/products/ef-sne-plt
With Canon, Sony and others taking so many years to develop continues AF for video that just recently has been getting good, how is a company like Fotodiox supposed to engineer the software and hardware capable of AF in integration with a third party proprietary camera system? It will not happen unless the camera company wants to partner with the adapter maker, or make the adapter themselves (and Canon is obviously not going to make a Canon EF to Sony adapter). It's not going to happen
@@DavidBerglund Adapters without this capability are useless. Anything can be reverse engineered. Either it gets done, or these adapters won't sell very well. The idea that such a capability shouldn't be coveted and encouraged is absurd.
Unfortunately that's not possible, because you can't put extra space between a native lens and native lens mount without losing infinity focus. This is why we can only make ND Throttle adapters for adapting lenses that have longer focal flange distances than the cameras we're adapting them to.

Hi! Will there be a Sony a-mount to e-mount adapter soon?
We do offer a Sony A to Sony E adapter. It's not electronic though, so you have to adjust the lens's aperture and focus manually. Here's the link: fotodioxpro.com/collections/lens-mount-adapters/products/snya-snye
No, unfortunately not. This is because if you put space between a native lens and a native camera, the lens loses the ability to focus to infinity and becomes a macro focus only lens.
I'm attempting to adapt an Irix 15mm EF mount w/ electronic aperture and when I turn on the A7iii and hold down the FN bttn, nothing calibrates. Eventually the image shows but I am left with the f-stops at F90. Any tips?
Unfortunately our EF adapters are designed specifically to work with first party Canon EF lenses. We cannot guarantee full functionality with third party Canon EF mount lenses like the Irix models.
@@zulkifliramli2422 Unfortunately that wouldn't work, because we don't make a Sony E to Sony E ND Throttle adapter, because of the limitations of native lens to native camera focal flange distance.
Interesting product I think you're going to have a big influx of new users with the new camera that came out of Sony right now. I work as a teacher in a college for a photography and video production any chance I can you can loan me one of those lenses and I can make a review on it?
There are plenty of filmmakers who don't use continuous auto focus, so its not useless for them. Many filmmakers who need built-in VND are also manually focusing their lenses or have someone pulling focus manually. But if you're filming yourself while blogging or doing documentary work with lots of quick shots that require auto focus, this adapter is not ideal. In those situations we'd recommend using a native Sony lens which is always going to be faster than an adapted Canon lens.
@@FotodioxInc True about filmmakers not always needing autofocus. I don't either, however, as an adaptor I think having continuous autofocus should be a given. I will remote the statement of useless a that was unfair. Apologies.

This is why we can only adapt non-native lenses like Canon EF or Nikon which have a longer focal flange distance so we have space to put an adapter in between. Hope that makes sense.
kase has a filter system that fits in the body infront of the sensor, and a few other companies make filter systems that attach to the rear of lenses if that works for your application.
It will let you control the aperture electronically, and you should get auto focus control as well, but we can't guarantee good af functionality with third party lenses.
I know these are brand new but is anyone talking about the optical quality of the ND filter in these mounts? I'd love to try before I buy but probably impossible given im in New Zealand.
We haven't done a head to head comparison demo so we couldn't say for sure. There are reviews of both online, so I'm sure you could compare our results in this video to the results of the others.
Do you mean pervious versions? It depends. The version of the VND filter we used in the original run of ND Throttle adapters was updated a couple years ago to a slightly higher quality filter. So all the ND Throttles you can buy today have the newer VND in them, unless you buy an older used model.
If you adapt a Canon EF full frame lens, you can shoot in full frame mode with this adapter. You'll only need to use crop mode if you adapt an APS-C Canon EF-S lens.
We currently only offer a manual version for ND Throttle, but there may be one in the future. Here's a link to the manual one, which works great if you have any manual Canon EF-mount cine lenses: fotodioxpro.com/products/eos-mft-ndthrtl-cine?_pos=1&_sid=2a482dd65&_ss=r

Built in ND sounds great but it's not. If you've ever used a variable ND you'll know that even at it lowest setting it is still cutting a full stop of light. Many times I've forgotten to remove the ND and thought wow it's much darker than it looks only to realize the ND was still on off the previous shot. Then I've removed it and the room is all of a sudden over exposed. For that reason, I'm out. As the Dragons would say.
This is why we recommend only using the ND Throttle when you need it, and to always have a standard adapter around to switch to when you're shooting in lower light situations. That being said, our own Sean Anderson has often shot whole short films with the ND Throttle, films set mostly in bright environments that he wanted to shoot wide open anyway. The nice thing about this setup is he can quickly switch out different prime lenses on the ND Throttle without having to worry about moving an external filter from lens to lens, especially when adapting ultra wide angle lenses that don't have standard filter threads.

There's always a catch. This is a deal breaker unfortunately. What a shame.

Hi. What about corners on a wide angle lens with opened aperture? Is it sharp on the sides of picture? Or has some blur?
