- Now it's time to start spinning spanner on our Drag Challenge Ute Build. We're going to start by stripping out the interior before hitting the floor with Dry Ice to remove the sound deadening.
Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

There's 2 great things about Friday.
1. Carnage.
2. Tomorrow is Saturday.
Absolutely! 👍
True 100% true
I reckon this car might be a Friday afternoon special from Holden... they got on the piss early and decided to screw with the dealership by putting the dicky seat in and the handbrake on the right side and a bunch of random hardware to hold everything together.
@@Beer_Dad1975 sounds about right mate
GRIMACE WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!!! GENIUS
I think the fact that you don't particularly like the name is the reason it will be locked in 😅
Workplace law states the nickname which incites the greatest negative reaction is the one which sticks.
Yep that announcement pretty much locks it in. GRIMACE
No matter how many times you've done the dry ice in a bottle trick the bang still gets you every time! 💥😳
Call it deep purple! Long live Rock and Roll.
Hey Scotty, i had a manual series 3 bench seat manual. The center is different and the hand brake is on the side 👌
I had a VP wagon setup exactly the same.
Yeah I also played with a factory 5 speed, bench seat ute. Ended up getting a full centre console and seats out of a 2 seater ute and changing it over. Moved the handbrake aswell.
Yeh I had one with 5 speed and bench seat.
I was about to comment the same thing
@@brandonhau1135 the only thing it was good for was the dog could sit there when it was raining, not really made for a human.
If you must name it , I think purple haze has a better ring to it ! I'm looking forward to this build .
Purple haze
Purple - The Ghost Who Walks... The Phantom!
Propper lol'd at the dry ice bottle trick
9:50 Grimace ALLLLL DAYYYYYY
16:10 - I watched that like 15 times! Glorious! lol
That’s the difference between the 90s gen of Holden and the penultimate series. My 2010 weighs 500 more Kg, for only 50-60kw increase-it’s a slug, but far better handling and ride.
The vs is going to be wild 😜
It's also infinitely safer. The VE had a 5 star ANCAP rating
Give Scotty points for broadcasting his “driver weight” for all to see. There’s definitely bigger boys out there that are running low ETs- maybe its the camera adding twenty pounds 😂
So no vegan diet for Scotty?
Tidy looking ute, about time someone worked over a 427, great idea Scotty
427 dart block ls , very common engine for go fast cars
Great video! My first car was a 95 Vs ute in red and it was a 5 speed manual with that bench seat you showed on you’re phone and the hand break lever was down the right hand side of the drivers seat. It was really rare I would have someone in the middle so I would fold the middle seat down and have it as an arm rest
Loving the Ute. Makes me pine for a streetable version.
We need a gif of the ‘fright’. And a poster.
I bought my VS ute, series 2 brand new in 1997, and there were many options of configurations in New Zealand. Park brake lever by the door with column shift auto, floor shift auto and manual, with a bench seat like in ths video. There was another option of the parking brake in the centre with all 3 above options but with bucket seats only. There was a VS car a customer ordered around the same time and he wanted a column shift auto and i think he ordered a ute front seat set up as well so his car could sit 6 if need be. Like the old days lol.
That bang woke you up abit scotty😅 you know its serious when adam from mpw is involved 💪😎
Love the project and timeline Scotty! Hearing you on the pressures there, and the weird butchery youre finding along the way. Good luck with the project!!
I can honestly say that in all my life that I've never watched paint dry. Now I've watched it crack and peel. Can't wait for the rest of the build. Keep pumping out the great videos Scotty
The old snap crackle and pop floor styles Scotty !!! The bottle exploding and you jumping was a classic🤣👍🍻
that dry ice though . i never new , the bottle bomb aye , haha cool.
I've been around long enough to remember when you did that dry ice trick on the blue EL on your old channel haha...
And yeah points for the self tapper holding the seat in. Nice work brah
Awesome looking forward seeing this build🎉
His reaction when the dry ice in the bottle blew up was hilarious 😂 😂
Dismantling the ute bought back memories, worked at GMH Elizabeth plant in SA when these were coming down the line. One on my jobs were fitting consoles and petrol tanks (same work station). The front screws on the consoles were long
Dickie seat great spot for the dog. Very thoughtful Holden
Or son or daughter. Or Filipino wife. Just sayin''
@@kylebutler7142bahahaha
Really enjoyed this episode. There is something exciting about the strip out. It tells you performance is about to be installed. Seems you learned from previous dry ice attempts to have enough to do the job easily. From memory last time you did it you were short.
We'd be more than happy with your usual skill level, but with how fast you wanna go, noone can build em like MPW 👌👌
Call it deep purple!
It's a drag racing omen, 1320 kg for 1320 feet (1/4 mile).
Nice pick up, I didn't spot that
What gave me the greatest laugh in this video was heading Scotty kick off saying "Someone put a fucking phillips head screw in" hahaha. Keep up the good work mate!
Great video there Scotty and very amusing popping that bottle too.
From William
Sometimes I just hate people! 😂Ditto 👌
Great episode. Looking forward to this build
04:18 can spot a black Megane Sport in the background. Awesome cars
Great episode.
Good to see your using an aussie icon the ute we've all heard of the flying Scotsman well heres comes the flying Scotty you wont get into the 8s i reckon prob 7s with guy's you got helping cant wait to see this one done 👍👍
Dry ice! Brilliant! Thanks for the lesson
The ultimate way to do it. Scotty got WAY too much though lol. I did an entire VH SL/E with 7kgs lol. Cost alot more than $5.50/kg where I am though 😥
13:55 That's what she said!
16:00 Gee Scotty, you could have damaged your trademark shoes. I can see everyone watching this now going out to buy dry ice!
I kind of like Grimace the purple ute. My blue VY S ute is called Tinker, cos that's what I did to get it to it's best state, & my white VY S ute is called Barry cos the factory LS1 in it has a very deep note to it when you take off & it sings well.
Another great video & it's good to see a Holden ute getting recognition.
Ha ha ok, it was red 👍you win this round scotty! Looking forward to a great build.
I think I may have worked on that Ute before with that phillips head trickery 🤣
Good morning Scotty..
Great video…
Excited for this build ..
Fuel and battery in close proximity is always a recipe for fun, especially in a race car. 😂
They did do a bench seat 5speed manual Ute. It had a small3/4 length seat in the middle connected to passenger seat. Father in law owned one.
Hey Scotty I know the VG utes had a 5spd but where the console is there was a dickie seat that could fold down & act as an arm rest too. I’m guessing the VS had the same set up.👍
Off to a good start scotty. 👍
Grimennace Scotty!
Scotty near on shat 😂timed that well 🎉,the ol dunnydoor u beute should be a fun weapon when finished…drag challenge is coming 😂,love the channel and keep it up mate cheers 👍🛞🔥🛞🔥
Loving every episode each week it's going to be awesome when it's finished 👌
I was about to say I reackon it may have been re tagged with a factory column shift shell until I heard your explanation enough said kudos to Adam as well knows his shit and just speaks so well on these videos he has featured in
Love fridays Scotty !
I think it should be called “ 16:53 Lil Beasty” as looks can be deceiving 👊👍
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy (90s kids should get the reference)
Grimace is a great name!!
What type of person adds a philips head & nut & washer to the seat runner? The same sort of person who advertisers it as totally factory original & untouched ute.
I bet that person puts the toilet roll on the wrong way.
@@FuManchu5ltrWhat's the wrong way down under i'm in california let me know
@@FuManchu5ltr😂 yep 100%
@@Keiththescoutcrazywrong way is 100% if the roll goes over the backside and not cascading over the frontside 😆
They know what they got, and from the outside it looks stock.
But just like mental issues, you don’t know what is on the inside
My brand new one had bench seat and floor 5 speed manual. Thats why handbrake is on right. Little bit awkward when changing gears between someones legs. No so much on a date etc👍
15:59 scotty takes us back to 13s for 1300 project bluebird 💪
Might rewatch that later
Love all you vids scotty but am particularly excited about this build. Friday cant come around quick enough 👍
You and me both! The next video is awesome.
Seeing how you used the dry ice was a light bulb moment - Carnage has edumacated me today!
I'm curious to see what you're going to do with the tub for aerodynamics and if anything is needed with that front for airflow.
Shouldn't need to do anything. it has been proven that an open tub with closed tailgate in no worse than an open tub with tailgate open or removed. But a hardlid may improve overall aerodynamics. But then a hardlid adds weight.
Oh😂😂 8.09 crack me up
As a tradie that middle seat comes in handy not as a seat but somewhere big and flat you can place things like an esky or laptop, paperwork etc etc
I have a 93 VP factory bench seat 5 speed. They have the column shift style centre console. Nice ute!
Great job Scotty. Would be cool to see this vs project no mang at Heathcote.
I was gunna write how to do dry ice bombs 😂😂😂
Call it what you want, just don’t call it late to the staging lanes 🙂
shes yummy car im looking forward to seeing this beast of a machine take its final 1.0 form
yes they did come with a bench seat with the 5 spd VG through to VS they had a small cut out to give the shift some extra room
Im sure the ute will turn into to a beast when Scotty is done with it. Hopefully we can get into the 7ns, fingers crossed.😊
MAN SHAKES for every meal for the next two months, your wife will love ya. Plus youll fell better .
Is a manshake like a handshake, except you grab each others doodle?🤔
Some of the old utes came out with a bench seat manual combo. Not many though. Bit of an awkward position for the shifter on that third person 🤣
Edit: hahaha you figured it out.
The Frankenstein ute.
Scotty call it the 'PHANTOM'
Scotty the dry ice boomer !
Scotty like to Bang 😂😂😂😂
I’m sure you’ll have fun dropping some weight out of this with light weight suspension fiber glass doors panels bonnet etc
Looking forward to seeing this come together
Had me laughing so hard with the pet bottle dry ice 🧊
Hey Scotty I know how ya feel with the car being messed with how it shouldn't my vx ss was missing the adjustable arms in the rear end
The trans cooler lines had been kinked but good to see you getting work done on the vs 👍
Ha ha love it Scotty!
Perhaps this 2 month timeframe could be an opportunity to try save a tenth from the driver Scotty? Make things easier on you getting in and out of the car. Loving the build and hoping for good results on the track
Going by past episodes and what Scottie has has mentioned about his son I think he doesn't have a lot of time to focus on weight reduction
@paule4204 exactly why all of us need to keep healthy. Our kids are going to want us to stick around, especially those of us who have special needs children of which I have.
Scotty my new VSII base model Ute was a 5 speed with the bench seat.
So no console and handbrake down the side.
Hope put a few 101s into that esky for knock off time Scotty! Sweet vid as usual.
Two good things about the strip out. With any luck that's all the f#@kery gone from the ute never to return and Scotty's butt jumped higher that the moon tune in the Mazda!
And yes...I smuggled at least 3 slabs in those tub recesses into SummerNats many times back in the day..😊
Grimas needs to be a 13b as we all know
👍👍👍
Wish i new this when i did the skid car sound dedner. I only used a hammer n chisel 😂😂
You are correct they did build bench seat cars as manual’s
I like the name!
I also like tbe lil bottle bomb with dry ice. Its tradition!
Grimace? More like cashy, judging by the phillip LoL 19:04 Call it La Firrari
13:39 I'm thinking cut everything out of the cubby hole and mount the engine in that position.
Call it "The Plum"'.
Yes you could get them in a bench seat manual my mate had one was an awesome car VS V6 5speed Ute S spac
Man i wish i knew the dry ice trick 20 years ago lol.
You should order some parts from Speedway Motors over in america, and use some billet aluminium components such as pistons, crank, and rods
My VR ute was buick with 5spd with the middle dickie seat. On my p plates, Mate and his misso used to come with me on road trips and she sat in the middle. She was hot as too😂😂
😂😂😂 put ya beers in for 2 seconds
Yeah, hold the seat in with a Phillips head screw, she'll be right mate. Pfft..😁
Only some times - you're a better man than me 🙂
I'd call it the Phillips the ute or Phillip! 😂
There was certainly bench seat manual commy utes, mine was
Love dry ice bombs 😂
Yep they definitely did do a manual/bench seat combo, got one right here.
I dare say someone has ripped out the bench in favour of a 2 seat/console setup hence why you still have the handbrake down by the side of the seat.
Well now that a different type of ute. 😂 PS how was the rush of adrenaline after the bang.😅😂
