You know Issa Rae from 'Insecure' on HBO, from 'Awkward Black Girl,' from 'The Lovebirds,' from 'Little.’ She produces 'A Black Lady Sketch Show.' She runs an Atlantic Record imprint, Raedio. She runs the production company, Issa Rae Presents, that makes 'Insecure.' She founded ColorCreative to represent underrepresented writers. She's got Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and a Peabody award. So how did a self-proclaimed “awkward girl” get to the place that she is today?
It all started back in 1996, with a script from 'Moesha' and a dissatisfaction for the Black stories that Hollywood wanted to tell. She decided to stop talking sh*t and start making sh*t and hasn't looked back since.

been watching awkward black girl since 6th grade and put all my friends onto it but they were SLEEPING on the show bc they weren't awkward so they didn't vibe with it the same way I did lol. but her representation REALLY made me feel like I wasn't an oreo, or a weirdo, or had white girl hips bc my booty was different or any other insecure things my half siblings told me I was or anyone at school who were wearing weaves n I had my african print on and afro told me I was. She really gave me confidence and made me feel like I too could be as unique as I wanted to be. My fav scene was one of the last ones in ABG when they had the step competition I was in tears on the floor lol.

I just got turned on to Insecure last week season 4 while visiting a friend. I was smoking and so was she on that episode when she was about to burn the yoga mat. I've binged was all of them such a good show and Issa is beautiful 😍
When she said 'Where's the stuff I watched in the 90s, where are we?' I got chills. I could feel tears prick my eyes. I'm a white Civil Rights Lawyer who grew up in the 90s and black culture, black people were so influential in my career decision, my life decisions honestly.
The world is a better place with this powerful, beautiful woman in it. I'm grateful she's inspiring millions of little black girls that their voices and talents will be seen and heard too.
