  • Welcome to Episode 2 of "Mongolian Cultural Extravaganza," where we delve deep into the heart of Mongolia's timeless traditions and vibrant cultural tapestry. In this episode, we bring you an exclusive glimpse of the Tumen Ekh Ensemble, a world-renowned cultural performance in Ulaanbaatar that encapsulates the soul of Mongolia's rich heritage. This isn't just a show; it's a journey through centuries of history, tradition, and artistry, presented by Mongolia's most talented performers.
Tumen Ekh is more than a cultural show; it's a living museum of Mongolian art, where ancient traditions come alive through mesmerizing performances. From the hauntingly beautiful Mongolian throat singing (Khoomei) to the elegant contortions of traditional dance, and the intricate melodies of the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), every moment of this 20-minute experience is crafted to immerse you in Mongolia's cultural legacy.
In this episode, we have captured the essence of Mongolia’s nomadic culture. The performers, donned in vibrant traditional attire, bring to life stories of Mongolia's vast steppes, its legendary warriors, and its deep spiritual connections with nature. The Tumen Ekh Ensemble offers a rare opportunity to witness the continuity of traditions that have been passed down through generations and to experience the pride and identity of the Mongolian people.
One of the highlights of this episode is the Mongolian throat singing, a unique vocal tradition where a single performer can produce multiple pitches simultaneously. This ancient art form, rooted in the spiritual practices of Mongolia's nomadic ancestors, is both mesmerizing and otherworldly. The deep, resonant tones of throat singing, combined with the rich overtones, create a soundscape that is as vast and mysterious as the Mongolian steppes themselves.
The episode also features a closer look at the traditional Mongolian costumes, each piece reflecting the region's history, social status, and cultural significance. These costumes, often adorned with elaborate patterns and symbolic colours, are a testament to Mongolia's rich textile heritage. The detailed embroidery, flowing robes, and distinctive hats are not just visually stunning but are also imbued with meaning, representing the wearer’s identity and place within the nomadic society.
We invite you to join us on this cultural odyssey, as we uncover the layers of Mongolia’s rich traditions. Whether you are a culture enthusiast, a traveller, or simply curious about Mongolia, this episode offers a unique window into a world where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously.

Worth the wait for this episode!!!
I am trying to gather words to express my reactions to what I am watching in your video Ande …. adjectives like Magnificent, spectacular, majestic are falling miserably minuscule to describe the cultural spectacle I just watched !! Simply mesmerizing this Tumenek show and the Khoomi rendition is just unbelievable . It’s so hearty to note that Mongolians have practiced and preserved such difficult form of art for so many centuries …. many of those musical instruments clearly seemed like ancestors of various contemporary instruments like the Cello, Clarinets , Santoor, violins and the glorious “Veena” !!
The costumes and masks are simply breathtaking … your audio visual captures are so life like that I felt to have been swept away into those moments ! Can’t thank you enough Ande for unraveling the Mongolia which is otherwise shrouded under centuries of time ….
Eagerly waiting for the next episode ! 😊
