As tears fill my eyes, I'm trying to type in a futile attempt to convey just how powerful and meaningful this film is. It speaks to the part of me that knows beyond all doubt that Ani-la's life is more meaningful than mine will ever be. She's a wandering yogini... wiser and more highly realised than many of us know. Don't bring yourself down, the power to realize the truth is within yourself, wherever you are and whatever you are doing. you are the only one who is holding yourself down.
Some years ago I made a journey toward Mt Kailas, on foot from Simikot in Nepal, along the narrow trail on the north side of the gorge which carries the great Karnali torrent. The days were very uncomfortable for me due to the heat and altitude, but more so for my local guide, who suffered alcoholic anguish after a few days on the trail. At the height of the afternoon he worked the beads of his mala and desperately chanted a mantra. At first I thought he was pathetic, but then I noticed that my way of dealing with the discomfort was to mentally direct scorn at certain world leaders, at people who I felt had wronged me....etc...so I took out my mala, and holding one bead at a time between thumb and index finger, placed my attention on a person, and while voicing the mantra 'om a hum vajra guru, padma sidhi hum', sent the silent message "may the spirit which resides within you, attain enlightenment". My discomfort disappeared, as though this activity took up all of my available attention. So next day, I continued with it as I hiked, in a methodical way covering each individual of my family, rippling out to work colleagues, acquaintances, the world leaders I had previously cursed, wild creatures I have encountered....... At a certain moment, the roar of the Karnali no longer dominated my senses. It was still there, but distant so to speak, as the centre of my attention shifted to another place, where the timeless silence of the world resonates....."the silence beyond thoughts" I hope this story helps someone.
I am of the Hopi people here in America, I am most amazed by how our peoples connect to the earth in our own ways to serve the same purpose. I set out on a daily to heal the hearts of others. I use the teachings of the Dao as well to bring people to the path of becoming the light.
What a brave woman to follow her heart like this even when everyone is telling her to quit and go back to her convent. My heart goes out to the Tibetan people struggling to keep their identity as a people and their immense spiritual treasure alive in a hostile world.
A lot of the head monks are secretive due to the CCP and Westerners. While they monk telling her to give up her search and go back to where she came from was very harsh, it’s because she brought a westerner (the videographer) with her. Outsiders and Westerners learning about the secret teachings is how Tibet ended the way it is. During the days of Emperor Ashoka of Maurya, the secret teachings were not secret, but the Muslims centuries later would slaughter all the Buddhists in India causing the teachings the vanish there but survive in Tibet. The Jesuit and Knights Templars were also probing Tibet, some trying to establish the Christian Ity that is Rome, others trying to steal and occult the teachings. An example of this is the Krishna Consciousness in the Bhagavad Gita being rebranded by the Christian as the Christ Consciousness. This caused Tibetans to start rejecting outsiders. Things got bad during the British Raj period. Tibetans started making secret their teachings, as the British were raiding and sacking temples and stealing artifacts and texts now shown in London. Only the Nazis were welcomed in Tibet, as they came in good Consciousness seeking to learn not to take- quiet the contradiction to what we’ve been told about them. What they learned there was learned by the Allies following WWII and the United States, British, and Soviets started probing Tibet and seeking access to the secret teachings and the location of Shambhala. This caused the Tibetans to completely seal themselves off. Then the Chinese came and forced it out of them, killing 1 million, destroying 9,000+ temples, stealing 18,000 scrolls and countless artifacts, and slaughtering entire Vajrayana Lineages into extinction. The west did nothing and stood by in hopes that the CCP would share with them willingly knowledge that the Tibetans would not, only to have the CCP give them the finger. Those you see in the video are those who survived. So when they see this wanderer with a westerner taking about how she wants to know about secret teachings, she is seen as a threat to what little existence they have left. This is especially since the CCP keeps physical and digital control over the region.
@@NarasimhaDiyasena Yes, that is an interesting insight, I had not thought of that. So much light is bound to attract much darkness, even a vicious push back like Chinese communism. There was so much light in the native american way of life and world view and look what a vicious push back overtook them and almost destroyed that. I once saw some footage that had been smuggled out of Tibet and the faces of the tibetans held the exact same look of stunned bewilderment, that could be seen in the faces of native americans soon after they had been through their own version of the holocaust.
@@NarasimhaDiyasena There are no secrets to the Buddhas teachings, its extremely down to earth. There's no magical techniques, transmissions or occult knowledge. Its accessible to pretty much everyone with internet access. All this talk of "secret" methods is mostly tradition and ceremony. The teachings are fine, accessible to everyone and no special Tibetan teachers are needed. "Advanced" practices tend not to be talked about, not because of some exclusive secrecy, but because they are irrelevant to novices and tend to end up confusing the practitioner. High level practice tends to be outside of concept and intellect anyways so there's not too much to say about it in the first place. Buddhism tends to rise and fall, there are rulers and cultures that support it and build it up and rulers and cultures that condemn and destroy it.

"Abandon all efforts. Find the silence beyond thoughts. Then simply remain." The highest teaching of all spiritual paths. Can't add or subtract a word from it.
Silence does not make one spiritual it makes one cease, ceasing is not living, it’s escapism. The object of life is not to seek to exists apart from things at all. This leads to nihilism. It is how we love others. The first commandment is to love the most high God with all your heart and all your being/ doing and the second is to love your neighbour as yourself. Love in Hebrew is a verb it is caring kindness in action
It is not silence that makes one cease but a silence, a letting off into the depths of our being, that gets filled with light after. And such light brings forth a flood of love as all the great Saints and spiritual masters of India have displayed.
Well, it's even better if you subtract the qualifiers "all, the, then". "Abandon efforts" implies some sort of active doing - you're applying effort to try not to be making effort - not the most fruitful sort of practice. It's like fighting for peace.
@@ovishvesh you must be born again is what Yeshua said, the heart of mankind is full of wickedness we have no inner light of our own, the evidence of the last few thousand years of mankind proves this. One must accept the offer of grace through the most high God which is made evident in His Son. Yeshua Jesus is the true light any other light is a deception.
@@JacquelineHahn1yes love is living. But that doesn’t contradict with practice being silence and having the strength and power to not giving effort for things and people you are so attached to. Attach is never love, loving people doesn’t mean you need to get so close to them, especially way too many human beings are having all kind of their own issues, they need to learn their own issues, and you should know how to choose to love them. Loving people and things lots of times means you love them in your intentions and your energy, but not necessarily in physical. You don’t need other people’s issues affecting your energy. When other in need for help, go help. Love means giving, caring and firm with the boundaries. That goes right back to master the silence and give up the ego need of “ effort”.

What an inspiring documentary, thank you! How wonderful of Ani to follow her inner wisdom and become the Wondering Nun. Some of us connect to our spirituality through movement, receiving information that way. Feeling the wind through our hair on top of a mountain, by walking through hidden valleys, by meeting people on our journeys, by receiving food from strangers. Ani's brave and I'd love to think that her childlike curiosity plays a big role in her becoming a Loving Light.
Did you notice Jetsun Milarepa was walking bare feet on snow? And then he took a shower under a waterfall. How they make their bodies go beyond pain by harnessing the inner shakti is beyond ordinary intelligence. This is beyond science, beyond ordinary mind, beyond the infinite universe and yet so true and achievable. I think these Tibetan yogins will defeat the Chinese who are trying to destroy their Buddhist traditions. The power of the devoted human mind is bigger than the entire universe! Om mani padme hum!
They are not trying to destroy Buddhism. Many monasteries have been restored and are funded by rich Chinese practitioners in mainland China. Things have moved on from the cultural revolution. Of course, the government will clamp down on any politics of separatism but in terms of practicing Buddha dharma, there are few obstacles. Some Tibetans in India have even gone back. Especially those from east Tibet who politically were more independent from the Dalai Lama’s seat in Lhasa to begin with.
There are divers who decide not to use SCUBA gear. They teach themselves how to hold their breath for VERY long time periods. They teach their bodies how to develop those skills and endure that. They and the people who walk on snow and shower under waterfalls, they are evolving faster and stronger than other human beings, teaching their bodies to do incredible things using their sheer will. All the respect in the world!
The physical strength and stamina it takes to survive such a harsh environment is achievement in itself. To spiritually and mentally survive in our turbulent world is nothing short of miraculous.

It was still there, but distant so to speak, as the centre of my attention shifted to another place, where the timeless silence of the world resonates....."the silence beyond thoughts"
I hope this story helps someone.

I love the idea of Buddhism as not being a religion but rather a way of life.
Here in the west, I think we think about things too black and white. Calling Buddhism a religion makes us think of it in a certain way, that it is not compatible with our Christian based societies.
Well said, thats the Tibetan yogis who can acheive such level....... beyond science beyond extraordinary.
You are mis-informed China is full of temples, 🕌 and has many churches.
Whois the westerner they call the ice man as he can condition his body that allows him to swim under the ice?
There are divers who decide not to use SCUBA gear. They teach themselves how to hold their breath for VERY long time periods. They teach their bodies how to develop those skills and endure that. They and the people who walk on snow and shower under waterfalls, they are evolving faster and stronger than other human beings, teaching their bodies to do incredible things using their sheer will. All the respect in the world!
The physical strength and stamina it takes to survive such a harsh environment is achievement in itself. To spiritually and mentally survive in our turbulent world is nothing short of miraculous.
