@@BeforeMoviesSucked apparently this is the only time she’s gotten mad at a fan because apparently a while back a fan did their own Dreamcast of who could play who in Hercules and she was cast is one of the muses. You know the girls that do all the singing until the story well she got mad and said I’m too good of an actress to be in an ensemble. I don’t know about you but that screams and not in a good way.
Wow, I understand that it's a fan edit, and yes, they made it look like the wicked cover from the book which her movie is based off of, that was written by a person, and it's based off L. Frank Baums wizard of oz stories, which I think Disney still owns the copyrights maybe, since Disney did return to oz movie which I loved watching as a kid growing up, it was my MGM wizard of oz, in any way, I don't think before next month they would recast her like Disney did with snow white actor, I don't think Wicked movie being made is by Disney but I could be wrong, that it's a different people releasing this maybe her comment about it goes too far, I seen that on Facebook, it came up as something I should read, or was reposted on Facebook feeds. that's where I learned about her poster being photo-shoped to look like the book's cover, I do think she overacted, since a green witch could also been played by a white woman, they just picked her instead.
The fan poster makes her look cooler. Wtf she complaining about? Just a baby in a grown woman's body.
I would love to see a fan edit where Rachel Zegler was the green witch instead of her, I think it would show more emotion in her Oz character then, and maybe they should hire Rachel Zegler as the green witch, and kick her off the wicked movie, I think Rachel Zegler could play the part just as well :) I can see them redoing the movie posters now, with Rachel Zegler as the green witch next to the other actor. since she can sing very well, and if she not doing snow white, then she is free to play the green witch in witched, not sure if the musical fans would like that or not, or the book fans? but yes, I think Rachel Zegler has a great voice, and the songs in this wicked movie could be done just as well with her.
The bored stare toward the camera doesn't help the poster at all.
I think Rachel Zegler would have less of a bored stare in the poster, if she was to replace her as the green witch :) plus she can sing just as well, seen the UA-cam clips of her singing in that Disney Snow white movie. they should "Fire" her as the green witch. And then Hire that Rachel Zegler actor to the cast if she free to play that part :) just not add "Water" too it of course, Wizard of Oz Joke ;) She took the fan edit too hard, I think... maybe she not even a Fan of the part she is playing, did she ever read anything even based on Wizard of Oz before or Wicked?

1. the Muses are one of the many things that make this movie iconic
2. The Muses are very popular amongst Black fans of the movie

This actress forgot that the poster is supposed to be an image of Elphaba, not Cynthia. She also forgot to have a facial expression in her own version where she's "staring down the barrel of the camera" with a blank face
@@leigh-anjohnson OK look this is just my opinion conspiracy whatever but I truly believe this woman believes that this role is hers and hers alone and she’s gonna act like nobody and I do mean nobody has ever portrayed this particular role before when we all know that that’s not true she thinks that this movie is about her and not a character from beloved franchise and I’m gonna tell you right here and right now. She’s any chances of me going to see this movie and I’ve got a funny feeling. I’m not the only one who feels that way.
Honestly she’s really killed any enthusiasm I had at seeing the movie now. People make fan art all the time. Clearly because they’re excited and want to make art to do so.

@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 honestly I lost interest. The second I found out that the movie is supposed to be a two-parter. The movie that they’re releasing now is going to end with the song defying gravity and then you have to wait a whole year to see part two or act too, if you go by the Broadway play where is where as if you went to see the Broadway play you could see the whole damn thing in three hours or less, but this tantrum of her, it’s only gonna drive more people away if she keeps this up and something tells me she will see it and I don’t and if it does, I’ll be genuinely surprised.

What’s funny is I’m completely blind and I recognize the poster. Thanks to someone having told me what it looks like a while back when I went to see a touring production for my birthday, but seriously though she’s such a oh my God she’s such a child and the only musical that she’s ever been in on Broadway that I know of was the color purple She’s never had to be altered if you will and she’s not being altered in that poster, but she’s damn sure being altered for this cause she’s green from head to toe if she wants to talk about micro aggressions why is she complaining about that? Oh, by the way, I’m not saying she should because alphabet is supposed to be green or rather the wicked witch the west is supposed to be green but my point is you think she complain about that before she complained about a fan made poster.

@@ebonie_._ now look, I have no problem with a black actress playing with to the west because there has been plenty of them on Broadway and they’ve done splendidly, but the reason I have a problem with this is twofold one because Cynthia is proving herself to be nothing more than a spoiled, entitled brat and two get the feeling that with the movie adaptation, they deliberately made that casting choice to turn the story of wicked into a racial thing, whereas on Broadway, even though the actress playing alphabet playing the wicked witch the West might’ve been black go to the Director and say oh let’s make it about race no, they stuck to what the story was supposed to be. I’m scared to death that they’re gonna try to make the movie adaptation rice that was never what it was supposed to be.
I think that Cynthia Erivo is actually an amazingly talented actress... she's particularly good at playing the victim!

My wife really enjoyed Broadway musicals and plays. So I took her to see Wicked in San Fransisco many years ago. What a wonderful musical it was! I was already on the fence about seeing the movie, but the trailers were slowly bringing me around to watching it. Seeing actresses (and actors) have a fit over fandom really turn me down from seeing their movie/shows/productions. So like some of the comments you've read, I'll be skipping this one.
I hope Cynthia realizes what a HUGE mistake she made, but now the she showed her true colors I doubt she will. Ever since Rachel Zegler (and maybe some other actress') attacking fans has suddenly become popular, she has now pretty much destroyed her career before it started.
I notice Ariana Grande hasn't made any comment, so either she's more professional or she actually likes it cuz she too is a Wicked fan, or maybe both.
She is angry for the same reason big Hollywood MCU super-heroes hardly wear their masks: vanity and ego.

@@danielcantu859 I just found out that apparently they’ve changed the wicked witch of the west hair to micro braids to really really really tiny braids person request just like Halle Bailey did with a little mermaid hair. Sounds to me like somebody doesn’t give two craps about playing the character properly, so yes, you’re right unfortunately.

I looked up Arivo, and apparently she was also the mummy looking Blue Fairy from the live-action remake of Disney's Pinocchio.
(I'm not being mean nor am I joking, her Blue Fairy looked more like a glowing mummy with that makeup & design choice, even her "wings" were just flowing wraps)
So she wasn't upset when her role as the Blue Fairy was cut short in "Pinocchio" , but was upset when half of her face was edited by a 'Wicked' fan who just wanted the poster to have more emotion & nostalgia to it? 🤦🏼♀️
I believe it was her decision to look directly into the camera for this poster. Given that, she seems offended by the suggestion that the original concept of mimicking the iconic poster might have been better. The choice to showcase her face while downplaying the iconic red grin and emphasizing the idea that more can be conveyed through the eyes was misguided. She seems unwilling to accept that.
Having done some theatre and plays in my day I never saw Wicked BUT everyone regular or musical theatre knows that poster and logo. Her reaction to this edit tells me she doesn't truly understand how big of a deal this movie is to the musical theatre crowd (they are crazy.....in a good way.......sometimes) and the musical normie crowd.
Her sullen expressionless look is boring. Sorry lady, I already don't care about you. The original poster sold the character as interesting and "Wicked". This is why actors should shut up and act.
This is honestly so pathetic on her part. A fan made a poster that resembles the broadway poster which looks amazing and is ICONIC and way better than the movies original poster. As a Black woman who is familiar with the Broadway show, I empathize with Cynthia’s reaction in the context of it being a culmination of being constantly subjected to racist backlash the moment she was revealed to play the lead role. However, I heavily disagree with Cynthia’s decision to take her frustration out on the person who made the fan edit(especially when they revealed to not have done it out of bigotry but rather out of pure excitement for the movie). As much as defenders of Cynthia want to say that the original playbill has Elphaba’s eyes covered because there’s different actresses who play her, this was done there (and on the cover of the novel the musical is based off of)to highlight the mysterious vibe about Elphaba (I mean no one in OZ truly knows why and how she became “evil”). There is a difference between erasing the black features of a black actress playing a character than using an artistic technique to convey a specific aspect of a character’s personality. Does Cynthia have to like fan edit? No, but she still could have done a repost to show love.
When there aren't reasons to get offended just make up some, I guess.
Ariana Grande already turned me off of the film being a homewrecker. Now Elphaba in the film is offended that Broadway fans wanted to pay homage to the musical that's iconic and more famous than herself. I'd rather watch Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as well as all the future Elphaba and Glinda from Broadway and West End than the Universal Studios film at this point. When they start attacking fans, it's not a good sign for any modern Hollywood film. Universal did heavy marketing and promotions for Wicked: merch everywhere, Hilton Midtown NYC has its own Wicked theme room, AMC Wicked merch and more. I'm thinking they'll need 1 billion dollars to break even on filming, reshoots and marketing spend they probably spend at least the filming budget on marketing alone for Wicked.
Wicked Stanley Cups, Wicked Starbucks Tumblers and specialty drinks, Wicked Crocks, and whatever else Universal Studios collaborated with for Wicked and its sequel next year. I've never seen people go as crazy as this for Wicked merchandise as Disney fanatics did for Disney 100 merchandise. 😮 It's insane! I bet most weren't even original Broadway/West End Wicked fans like us but following trends similar to what happened during the Barbie movie.

@@IAmTrash1995 While Cynthia’s reaction has not been the best and that Elphaba has been historically played by white women(as far as the U.S. goes), it makes sense to have a Black woman(or any non-white woman really) play this character. Elphaba’s being constantly discriminated against by the citizens of OZ due to having green skin. This is something that Black women often face in their daily lives.

I see your wicked gear! How awesome. But yes, they will never learn about not attacking the fans. It’s so frustrating. I personally don’t think the movie can match the magic of the stage show. I’ve only seen it once in 2010 when it came to Durham. It was so amazing. My neice was 9 and she told me a few weeks ago she’d like to see it again as an adult the next time it goes to Durham. I’m not planning on seeing the movie unless she wants to go with me. Just like the Flash. I didn’t want to support that movie at all but my nephew wanted just him and I to go see it since we’d seen so many dc movies together. I did for him. My line in the sand disappears when my nieces and nephews want something. I am the favorite aunt after all.

The Broadway fans have really been discredited on different tik toks. If the studio was smart they would have special sing along showings where the viewers can sing with the movie. I don't think Cynthia reacted in the best way at all, especially towards genuine excited fans. However, I think it's really rude to call someone over dramatic, especially towards a woman in Hollywood as it's been an issue spanning decades. Also, I hope we can just enjoy the film as it is and disassociate it from this controversy, it seems like it had a lot of love and care put int it.

A "fan edit" of the official movie poster is a commentary on the respect you have for the person who designed it. Editing someone elses art and then playing victim when they point out its disrespectful is WILD.

Broadway fans were the ones complaining in the first place- so there’s that. Also, there have been numerous women who have brought the character of Elphaba to life, let’s not forget that. However, the fan edit is just that- a FAN EDIT. Someone who is a fan of Wicked- made an edit of the characters. It could have been anyone playing the role of Elphaba- and they would have made the exact same edit. These characters transcend the people who play them. Her feelings are valid- but it sends the entitled message that SHE is more important than the fans love of the property- which is why she included the original corporatized poster and labeled it a “palette cleanser.” Fans being passionate and excited about a project isn’t “toxic” and to label it as such diminishes fans- be real lol

If anything, you'd think someone starring in this adaptation would understand what the poster was doing. So either she's a moron who doesn't know the source material, or she's willfully choosing to be obtuse in order to play the victim.
