Im so thankful that I ran into this video right when im contemplating whether to go to the bamboo forest or the other place early in the morning. Thank you guys for being so straight forward, honest and very informative! waiting for more japan contents.
Thanks for your feedback! Yes, the bamboo forest was quite underwhelming to us. Seems like creators tend to hype it up a lot. But in our opinion it was just whatever. Thanks for watching! More content coming soon!
I've been enjoying your Japan vlogs. I'm currently planning a 14-day trip to Japan in September... and I've been listing the places and restos you both visited. Looking forward to the next one!:)
I love your videos. The way you show all the food while you eat it is fantastic. It really helps us to know texture and taste. Thank You both so much. I hope you will make many more videos.
Thank so you much for your feedback! We're big foodies and so we like to show off all the good foods we find. Thanks for watching! More videos to come!
Thank you for the feedback! We tried to limit the keyring noise on Sofie's backpack but unfortunately couldn't limit it all the time. We'll know for next time. Thanks for watching!
Great video. I stumbled across it looking for Kyoto videos while planning our trip there this October. What time of year were you there? It looks like autumn, if so, how were the temperatures. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! This video was filmed in mid-November. The temperature was quite warm midday (70+) and then chilly at night (45-55). In October you should expect even warmer temperatures. We would recommend you go during late November or later if you want to see the changing colors of the leaves.
@@SofieAndStephen thanks for the info. We're already booked for early October. One week in Seoul in September, then 10 days in Japan at the beginning of October. I was hoping to catch the leaves changing, but we might be too early.
@@glenm5679 That sounds like an awesome trip. Unfortunately beginning of October will definitely be too early for the changing leaves. In mid-November, we were only barely catching the beginning of the changing leaves.
Great vlog you guys. Best out of all I have seen. When can we expect the Osaka vlog. I am travelling to Japan next week and would to see the OSAKA part as well. Thanks guys !
Wow thanks so much for you kind comment! Unfortunately we won't be able to pump out the Osaka vlog within the next week. But what I can say is make sure not to miss Nara Deer Park! It's a short train ride from Osaka and very well worth it.
We went to Kyoto around mid-November. Weather was very moderate during the day and would get chilly at night. There were a couple of rainy moments so you might have to watch out for that but overall very nice weather.
@@SofieAndStephen thank you so much! I’m going to Japan in a couple months and you guys have me taking notes on things to try:) I really appreciate your vlog style!
If you’re going around April-May that will be a perfect time to go. The weather will still be nice to moderately chilly. We’re so happy to hear that we can help you out! Thank you so much for watching!
Love your Japan travel vlogs! I am going to travel to Japan in October and take your every advice seriously 🙂 What website are you using to book your hotels? Thanks
Thank you so much! That means a lot! We used Booking.com and Expedia.com for all of our hotels. We would usually look on Google maps for hotels in areas we want to stay in and then Google will provide the site with the cheapest rate, which was usually Booking or Expedia.
Thanks for the info - when were you in Kyoto? It is showing that the vlog was posted in January. We're leaving for Osaka/Kyoto, Tokyo in 2 weeks and were planning on packing for much colder weather. It looks beautiful and relatively warm in your videos.
Thanks for watching! We were actually in Kyoto in mid November. During that time it was nicer weather during the day but chilly temperatures at night. I'd assume that it's definitely going to be quite cold in Japan 2 weeks from now.
@@carloscanizares4699 It's a great time to go. Most people seem to either go in the spring for cherry blossom season or the fall for the changing leaves. We went in mid November and the leaves were just starting to change color. But the weather was perfect. Only a couple rainy days and mostly moderate to cool temperatures.
@@SofieAndStephen thank you! Your Tokyo and Hakone videos were from the same trip, I assume? We're from Vancouver, so rain isn't even an issue :D But we noticed you both only really wore jackets in the evenings. What you and people in the background wore looked like early summer in the Pacific Northwest.
@@carloscanizares4699 We are from Florida so quite the opposite type of weather from Vancouver! So we are not used to cold weather as it is pretty much warm all year long in Florida. While in Japan, in November during the day it was either perfect weather for just a t-shirt or sometimes just a light jacket. I remember some days in Tokyo towards the beginning of the trip when we were sweating during the middle of the day. At night though the temperature would always drop. It never really got colder than like 6C or 7C while we were there. With the windchill maybe it got down to 5C but that might be a stretch.
I really like seeing what can be done in one day. I would like to follow your steps so my questions would be, for example, you went to the Monkey Park and then to Nijo Castle . How did you get to Monkey Park and afterwards how did you get to the castle, did you walk, take a bus, taxi, subway??? Thanks in advance
In Kyoto the train system isn't as vast or complete as other big cities like Tokyo or Osaka because of how old Kyoto is. So in Kyoto we took some trains but for the most part we'd have to take buses. In our 3 weeks in Japan, we took the most number of buses while we were in Kyoto. If you don't mind spending some money or just want a more convenient time, you could use taxi/Uber. But we mostly took buses and walked a lot in Kyoto.
@@SofieAndStephen thanks, I really enjoy your videos, and will be using them in my decision making for Japan. Since I am taking a short trip, I am stressing on how much I can fit in. That's why if you can link your locations it would be so great... so after Monkey Park, we took the bus to Nijo Castle which took a half hour or something like that. If you ever tour San Francisco, look me up.
@@lchew2001 How many days do you have in Kyoto? I'd recommend just hitting the main spots that we went to: Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kinkakuji Temple, Nijo Castle, Arashiyama area, Kiyomizu-dera, Gion District, Yasaka Shrine. Kyoto really isn't that big so I think even if you had 2 or 3 days you could easily hit all the main spots. Went to San Fran about 7 or 8 years ago and hoping to be back there soon :)
From Hakone to Kyoto we took the bullet train. In fact, the bullet train was how we traveled between all the major cities in Japan. There’s no bullet train station in Hakone. So you have to take a local train from Hakone to Odawara station. Then from Odawara you can take the bullet train west to Kyoto or east to Tokyo.
When we went in November the crowds could get intense depending on the area/attraction in Kyoto we were in and also the time of day. There were definitely some times (which you may have seen in the video) when crowds got pretty crazy. If you're going to Japan soon, I assume you'll be going in May or later. I think since you won't be visiting during the busy seasons (spring & fall), the crowds might not be as busy, but you never know. However, usually going to the main attractions earlier in the morning will ensure a less busy crowd. Hope you have fun in Kyoto!

@@nhahoanle Yes it tasted great and was only 500 yen (less than $4). We agree, after eating fantastic sushi and ramen in Japan at very affordable prices it has made it hard to pay for sushi and ramen in America lol
We spent about 2 hours there. That includes walking up through the torii gates for a little bit, walking back down, and also eating at the various food stalls around the shrine. But others could spend much longer there if they want to walk all the way to the top of the shrine.
We did! If you skip to 18:40, that’s when we went to the bamboo forest. You can walk through it in just a couple minutes. In our opinion, it was a little underwhelming. Those people sitting next to you in such a small restaurant were probably so uncomfortable. Maybe you can blur people's faces when you are in such a close setting.
