Recently I fulfilled one of my dreams of taking my parents to Japan. It was my mom’s first time in Japan and seeing my parents experience all the amazing food, culture, and scenery made my heart so full.
We were in Tokyo for 8 days and stayed in the Ginza area. We started off the trip by exploring Tsukiji Market and got to taste some fresh seafood, wagyu beef with uni, strawberry mochi, and more! We spent around 3 hours here just exploring and eating, and I cannot think of a better way to start the trip.
The next day we visited Senso-Ji temple and Kappabashi street. For dinner we went to Kora sushi and had such a fun time trying conveyor belt sushi.
On the third day of our trip we explored Ginza and had omakase for dinner. Trying omakase in Japan has always been a bucket list item of mine and this exceeded all my expectations. We went to Uraonikai located in Ginza and it was such an intimate and warm experience. This was definitely the best sushi I have ever had!
The following day we went to Roppongi Hills and the views from here were breathtaking. We stumbled upon a restaurant that served unagi and it was so good we decided to come back again the last day.
Gyukatsu and Ichiran Ramen are definitely two must try places when you are in Tokyo. Some might say it’s over rated, but I loved both of these restaurants and they satisfied all our cravings.
When in Tokyo, you have to visit Shinjuku and Shibuya. We had so much fun shopping and experiencing Shibuya Crossing. We did so much walking during this trip, we were averaging 20,000 steps everyday!
We ended the trip with one of my favourite meals, Monjayaki! It was so cool watching the chef cook up the food right in front of us, and of course the drinks were also delicious!

My father is Japanese and his family moved to Brazil when he was only 8. He never had a chance to go back before he passed. I’m planning to visit Japan in October so I’ve been watching some videos and this one surprised me. The places and foods are excellent, but honoring your parents are priceless! My mom had stage 4 lung cancer 5 years ago. The doctors put in her chart "no hope". She was determined to live and trusted God. She is 100% cancer free in 2024. Praying for your family. 💜
But what about the other people who prayed and trusted God and then they died? Everyone dies. We need to stop acting like it’s something bad.

One of the better foodie travel blogs I’ve seen in a long time. I smiled to see how much joy your family-especially your dad-got out of having a good meal while enjoying each other’s company. Made me tear up. Wishing your dad good health for this year. I hope you get the chance to do another trip to Japan-this time please do Kansai. It’s the kitchen of Japan and the place I lived for 7 years. The people are funny and casual. It’s the best place to live in Japan and I hope to visit as well. You can do Osaka, Nara and Kyoto either way a day trip to Himeiji Castle.
Both my parents passed way from cancer and the main thing I wish we had done more together as a family was travel. It warms my heart to see you and your parents having fun traveling together!

However, I am happy that you made new memories with your beautiful family on this epic trip. Yes you are exactly right, to avoid lines is to visit restaurants in less peak times such as 2pm to grab a late lunch. Note in Japan most restaurants also close from 2 to 5:30pm to prepare for evening services

It really hit home and is very special, I am half Japanese and my mother passed away from lung liver and brain cancer years ago, but seeing your family spend the time together was a breath of fresh air. I’m so sorry to hear about your dad’s cancer Tiffy. My 20 year old brother passed away on February 8. He had two types of cancers. He fought hard for 6 months, we are so proud of him. He’s an angel in heaven now with our God.
Never lose your hope and fight! Fuck cancer!!!!
im sorry for your lost i lost mine last year of brain cancer at only 36 years old i wish there would be more research to help other people and yeah fuck cancer also took my pet at 2022 lets just hope in the future people discover the cure

It's hard to deal with any illness, and Cancer is extra tough -so wonderful your dad is well enough to travel even though his staging must be difficult for everyone 💛. Time is all we have , so our ability to spend it woth loved ones is sooo amazing.

I came across this video just now, and it was absolutely heartwarming what you did for your parents and the sentiments that you shared 🥲All the food you all shared looked absolutely delicious and amazing… It really made me want to go to Tokyo too - maybe some day!! For me the best part was seeing you traveling, exploring and sharing such special moments with your parents. I was born in the Philippines and your parents reminded me of my own very petite mother and father❤️. I lost my mother 10.5 yrs ago after a 3.5 yr battle with cancer… I lost my father two years ago this month due to Covid… This trip is something most kids should do with their parents when they are adults…. My husband and I are heading to Japan this summer to visit our son and dil who are missionaries there. When we go, it will be two years since we've seen them face-to-face. They love it so much! Thank you so much for the recommendation at Uraonikai, I ate there last night with my 9 year old foodie, sushi loving, daughter she ate everything that came her way and we both loved the whole meal. All of the ingredients were first class even down to the amazing Nori sample that was our first bite. It is in a much better price bracket than some of the others out there 10 out of 10!!
I just saw in day two about your dad. Sending positive vibes for him. May this vacation be a healing factor for your dad. I have been through something similar in the past couple months so I can relate. My parents can no longer travel due to health complications so all the kids have to fly in to see them.
