  • Hi everyone...
I asked you all on instagram what piece I should sightread for you, and an overwhelming amount of you suggested Erlkonig (omg). I attempted it... I'm so sorry about intonation, articulation...overall playing... This is truly my first attempt at this piece, and it's inspired me to maybe pursue it and learn it for good lol...
Leave a comment on what piece you'd like me to sightread next! Like this video if you want to see more and subscribe if you haven't :)
    Sending you all hugs!

I’m a TwoSet violin fan and I went on a binge of watching Erlkonig by different violinists and just watching this from you is incredibly motivating and you’re doing so well 😂 well done

I love the way she says "Nope" and stares into the camera and then later exclaims when she messes up! So relatable. And cute.
I feel like she'd be fun to hang around with.

As someone who isn’t a violinist, but is a musician who actually sucks at sight reading; this emphasizes how important PRACTICE is. It’s easy to listen to a live performance of Hahn playing this an think “Ooo, that’s cool,” when this is more realistically what a really good musician probably sounds like when starting to learn a piece like this.
I know I’m a few month late, but MAD RESPECT right here!

Truly hard to put into words how relatable this video is as a violinist who isn’t studying professionally anymore, I just try to play the cool shit I love hearing and I can usually get something out-not well enough to my standards of course-but enough that I’m like „eeep that was fun!!“ and this video gives me those vibes of “ive heard this in the car so many times, but I’ve never seen the music and HOLY SHIT ITS SO MUCH HARDER THAN I EVEN REALIZED”

    • @thesoloistic5596
      @thesoloistic5596 3 роки тому

Like the defeated “there’s two lines here…” *stares into camera’s soul*… such a mood that like, idk if it’s comparable to any other experience I’ve had. To know that I’m good enough to ALMOST be able to do it, but not quite actually good enough yet? 😫😫 that’s enough of a high that I’ve chased it for 13 years

Okay, now we need a progress video in a month (or two) so we can compare! (I'm joking, of course...kind of...) 😋
It's great to put yourself out there like this! After being mildly traumatized by Erlkonig a year or two ago, I honestly feel like going back to it now! It's nice to have a reminder that the first run is never perfect.

I wouldn't say you failed in the least bit! For sightreading probably one of the hardest solo violin pieces to ever exist, I'd say you did quite well! You were able to get the double stops (and triple stops), harmonics, and left hand pizzicatos pretty clearly considering this is the first time you're playing this. And this is especially impressive when you have all three going on in one measure lol

After this, sight reading the first fiddle part of Brahms' fourth symphony would be a piece of cake for you!!! Erick Friedman spent 1,000 hours learning Paganini's first concerto. (There are hundreds of pieces which just cannot be sight read. That's the reality.) Your fans must love you a lot to give you this assignment. I have heard from many fiddlers that the best sight reader in the violin world was David Nadien, ex concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic.

you did a great job honestly, no need to feel embarrassed or shy! I’ve just spent half an hour reading this piece because I thought why not and by the end of it I was questioning my sanity and crying over my nonexistent left hand pizz skills xD I always thought that this piece is way out of my league but when I started reading it I thought “hmm not bad”, and then the harmonics part begun and humbled me in seconds xD thanks for sharing this video! ❤️

Ahahahah OMG I just went through exactly the same thing (but maybe a bit worse in several sections of the piece😎), not more than a couple weeks ago🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, I watched the whole video, it was soooo fun🤣🤣
Never attempted this piece before that first sight reading two weeks ago, but from a few days I'm pretty determined to try my best😎
I noticed that some sections of it tend to get better quite quickly, quicker than what I would've thought... While other remain very painful for long time🤣
I've to say that your sight reading is actually very good, being this such an extreme, insane piece😳... and even if I didn't know you before, it's very evident that your technique is very solid, extremely professional👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My best congratulations for this very honest and amusing video!🙂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I've been seeing a lot from this piece on UA-cam cause I'm arraging it for other instruments (not classical tho, so it's more of a cover than arrangement) and I think you did great for someone sight reading. This is trully both piano hands and voice in one violin, it looks REALLY difficult. Keep up the good work.

I am not a pro but definitley can say that you can improve your tone by playing a little bit closer to the bridge. I know double and triple stops are harder at contact points to the bridge, but you play on the fingerboard. You will see how much you can improve just by playing a little closer to the bridge.

    • @notepadpowersnail1860

Play triple stops a little over the finger board is a common tactic, especially for sight reading.
