Awesome tutorial. Thanks a million Mike. I hadn't been able to lower my driver side window for about six months and frustration had set in. After watching this how to video decided to go to a local yard and get a used regulator/motor and install myself. Took me a little under 2 hours and oh man problem solved. Window goes up and down smoothly. Changed my broken mirror at the same time too. Killed 2 birds with 1 Stone!!!

Great video, thanks. When connected directly to the battery the old motor jumped but wouldn't turn the gear. I unscrewed the motor from the gear and put a little oil in it and twisted it around using a spanner until it was free moving. When I screwed the motor back on, the whole thing worked fine. Be careful not to let oil draining back into the motor. Then I cleaned up the contacts in the connecting plug and it went like new. Also one rubber guide track had come out. Go Nissan!

Which has the higher failure rate, the motor or the regulator? They're sold separately, they only stock the regulator at the local Pep Boys, which tells me the regulators fail more often.
Great step by step video. This was my first time working with car trim. Everything worked great except when using "Auto Up" feature when the window (drivers) reaches the top in lowers down 4 inches. I can manually position the window the in the full up position. Any suggestions? (I was unable to purchase the window regulator from 1aauto.com window was stuck down and cold and rain in the forecast. But it will be the first place I look for parts in the future.
Further research seems to indicate that the limit reset switch is on the motor itself (for later model nissans (2000 - 2008) this requires removal of both panels. I have already reassembled the door and it's begun to rain. I will update this post when I've tried the reset. If accurate, resetting of the limit switch should be standard step in replacing the "window regulator" or at least inclide a step that tests the window travel limit. As instructed I did test to see of the window was working but (I assume) I unconsciously did not use the "auto up/down" as I hate this feature and never use it.
How would u know if its the motor or the regulator that is bad? On mine (drivers front window also) i have to open the door and close it kinda hard and hold the switch down at same time for the window to lower. Like if somethings not fully in tact. Then when i wanna raise it up, i have to do the same open door and close it hard and it'll start to raise slowly until it stops not even hallways and then automatically lowers itself back down. To fully close it, i have to help it up by hand.

So the window just sits in the plastic holders? My window must have come off the track and fell cocked to one side. If I put it back together, what's going to keep it from doing it again if not glued or something to that effect?
+Gary Kovach Thanks for watching! If the plastic clips are worn out then you will likely have to do something like that to extend the life of the regulator. OK, no laughing now, but currently, window motor is completely dead wtih window in the full up position. What is the trick to getting the window halfway down or so in order to start the process?
You may want to remove the door panel to check the window regulator to see if there's anything that may have broke on it. If there's power to the window motor and it doesn't move, you may have a bad window motor.
The regulator wouldn't be able to slide up or down( outside of the car)if it failed. The motor would have failed if you here it trying, or plugged it in and saw it spun but wasn't strong enough to move the window or slide the regulator with weight on it.
This video does not show how to put the window back into the clips on the door panel with the screws; absolutely useless video from 1Aauto! The window falls completely off the regulator every time!
My 2008 Coupe was broken into. The shattered the Driver side window. I just had someone change the glass and the window won't move. He says I need a new regulator or motor. Does that sound right.
It might be. You may also want to remove the door panel and see if there's possibly a broken piece of glass jamming the window motor or the regulator in place. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
