    Niki Lauda is a certified hero. Not just for his racing victories, not just for recovering from that horrifying accident, but also, and especially, for taking on Boeing and saving who knows how many lives by forcing them to fix one of their lines of planes.

      If only Nikki was still around to take Boeing on again! RIP to one of the greatest legends of the motorsport world.

    Probably the Greatest racing movie ever made (that’s not a documentary) IMO.
    They nailed the casting and the story was very realistic to what actually happened (for the most part)
    This movie never gets old.

    21:50 - He wasnt praying. he was giving him the last rites. That actually happened because they assumed he would die at that point. Then he made a miracle recovery pretty much.

    Also if you know Lauda it's insane how Daniel Brühl made him came to life. perfect example about how no nonsense lauda was. When He called Daniel the first time to meet up Lauda said "pack small if we don't like eachother you can leave again'" :D Man is a legend

      First time I saw Bruhl in "Inglorious Bastards", my thought was, '..man, that dude looks so much like Niki before the accident..' F1 fan since I was a teen, was actually a club racer when this film was released.

    I love the chat they had at the end of the movie. Racing is a brutal sport, emotions run high. The respect and drive a rival can cause is powerful motivation.

    Niki Lauda's accident was even more brutal in the real life footage, the fact he got in the car after 6 weeks of the accident is crazy. James Hunt 1976 Champion, Niki Lauda 1975, 1977 and 1984 Champion. RIP to both men, one of the greatest rivalries in the sports history.

    Although that scene with the reporter was a fabricated incident James Hunt's son said that's absolutely something his father would've done if someone had been that disrespectful to Niki.

    At the time this came out Niki was working with Mercedes to develop their F1 car. He was also instrumental in signing Lewis Hamilton. From 2014 to 2021 Mercedes won 7 Drivers Championships and 8 Constructors Championships. He passed in 2019. Mercedes still paints a red tri-point star on their livery in his memory.

    If you liked this one, you have to see Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, directed by Tony Scott, about Nascar racing, very good movie and impressive scenes with real cars, no CGI at all.

    • @thomasnieswandt8805
      @thomasnieswandt8805 2 місяці тому +3

      Uhm....the cars in here are real as well.... the racing was filmed at Watkins Glen. In fact this movie was proud, to have both Tyrrell P34 (the 6 wheel F1 car) on the same racetrack, for the first time since 1977. The starting drid had been the original cars, the racing ws replicas.
      + This was a real story, days of Thunder... well thats...well...
      Oh one more thing, since Star Wars in 1977, almost every movie uses CGI. If a movie says "No CGI" It means good/invisible CGI

    • @javix2013
      @javix2013 2 місяці тому

      @@thomasnieswandt8805 Yes, there are real cars here, except in the crash scene of Niki Lauda, there you can see a CGI car, the rest is not, Ron Howard comes from the old school of directors who likes the practical. But if there is a lot of CGI in Ford vs Ferrari, I have noticed several CGI scenes, not so in Days Of Thunder, there I think it is all filmed with real cars, just watch the raw footage of the crash scenes from all camera angles, that material can be seen on UA-cam and is impressive, it is unpublished material, I at least had not seen all that raw B-Roll scenes.

    Great reaction. I love this movie! I have huge interest in F1. In earlier days it was really just rich guys taking cars racing, no safety features. nowadays the safety is really is one of the biggest things. Great example is Grosjean crash in Bahrain 2020.. i watched it live it was such a scary moment... If i recall right they even cut the feed for a sec before they were sure he was ok. Truly a testament to the safety of todays F1, going at 197 km/h through a metal barrier, 67G forces and he got out and walked away on his own with only burns at his feet and hands.
    Nikky was part of making this movie, the actor who played him stayed long time with him to get to know him so he could nail the role and he did. Lauda said about 80% is reality, just mild story altering.

    Hunt: after retirement from driving, became a legendary commentator for F1 on UK television.
    Mr. Ferrari let Lauda 'off the hook' in '76 because they thought Clay should have just taken out Hunt in Japan to preserve Lauda's points advantage. Crazy thing for us American fans..Mario Andretti won it in the Lotus. Lauda actually ditched Ferrari in '77 after he'd earned enough points to take the title. Mario won in '78 because of a revolutionary aerodynamic design ("ground effect") Lotus' designers had made..he remains the last American to win a World Championship.
    Lauda: Fell in love with aviation, tried to start an airline. Money got short, he decided to go back to his "day job" to raise some cash. McLaren took a chance on him, turned out he could still drive. World Champion in 1984 (long story).

    You should watch 'Grand Prix' (1966) which was recorded during the actual 1966 F1 season with modified F3 cars to look like F1 cars, they even recorded the actual F1 races and stitched them in the movie...

    Interesting! Someone else (I think my dad?) also really didn’t like Hunt, especially in the first half. I was shocked because I assumed Niki was the much more difficult “character” whose positive qualities would later shine through. It’s not a bad thing though, I was just surprise!

    Someone will not agree that but he was the mentor of the greatest formula 1 driver of all time (Lewis Hamilton), He helped to mercedes amg f1 team to become most dominant team of all time (of course the great engineers and a good management too). Niki lauda is more than a racer. Mercedes amg department always puts a red star on their cars to remember niki.
