It turns out this is actually what started dragon communion, too. Bayle's offspring became the modern dragons, who the ancient dragon cult hunted and ate the hearts of as an act of vengeance for Bayle's treachery.

This fight singlehandedly made Igon one of my favorite characters in the entire game. The way the VA delivers his lines as you take down easily the coolest boss in the entire game makes it an unforgettable experience.
Rest easy, Igon. You may have been the broken drake warrior... but you were also the best drake warrior.
Honestly, Igon was very pathetic when I saw him at first and nothing happened. Then I was interested when he appeared on the Peaks as I was climbing.
Then I summoned him for Bayle, and I realized he was a Moby Dick reference and my respect for him increased by several magnitudes. "CURSE YOU BAYLE!"

Know why i love Igon already, aside from his lines and delivery ? Guy was a nobody, a coward, a guy who pillaged dead bodies on battlefields. But one day he communed with dragons, and he made it his mission to hunt and kill the scions of bayle, like the communion demands. But that chad didnt stop at the small ones, he went to the big daddy himself, lost his legs, and still didnt give up. Even in spirit he curses the Vile Bayle and lives on to fight him once more, at our side. Zero to hero.

One is silent, fearless, challenges anyone or anything on his path, able to burn the heavens and flood hell with the demons' blood if needed; the other screams his lungs out, screams filled with rage yet also filled with fear - silent he isn't, but equally as brave for facing his fears and the challenges presented before him.

I will say it, Igon is the best and most badass summon I’ve seen so far in a souls game. His quotes and him not dying after 3 hits love that man

When he went into his 2nd phase I was so hype I was screaming. Probably one of the best non cinematic phase changes ever. He's so sick, easily one of my favorite bosses in the game
FR. It was like the nuke move on Placidusax where it create such a cinematic experience but turned up. Like the explosions and when Bayke is flying and smashes down in a nuke not only in one move but multiple.
This + the music picking back up sold this fight in my top 3 favorites for the dlc
@@Stereo-hb2lo agree. I find the tension that the ost makes is great but I feel they could use a bit more melodic lines and rhythms. Sometimes it feels like it just won’t stop which fits the Boss in how it is continuous chaos but maybe it’s just me feeling like there could be something else added
I love when they sync up the phase 2 transitions with the music, there’s a lot of them in ER bosses
i got him down to like 500ish health and let Igon get the final blow, and he did it WHILE BAYLE WAS CHARGING AT HIM WITH HIS GRAB ATTACK. HE SHOT A GREATARROW DOWN BAYLE'S THROAT AND I NEARLY JUMPED UP AND ROARED ALONGSIDE IGON WHEN IT HAPPEND.

I adore the detail that Placidusax's 3 missing heads can be found still wrapped around Bayles body with their heads still biting into his flesh.
A real testament to how violent their battle was that even years the conflict Placis heads are still strangling and biting him after death

@@TheStraightestWhitest Placidusax tore of his leg, one of his arm/wing so that Bayle couldn't fly, and other injuries I haven't seen yet. Essentially, in favor of losing a couple of heads, the dragon lord crippled Bayle.

Climbing Jagged Peak (blind) before reaching the boss itself was one of the most chilling moments in gaming for me.

@@AydenMartinez-iv3jt That was one of my most favorite moments also. Doing it blind meant you kept wondering if that next spirit spring was going to be the last, but it just kept going up. The graphics and sound (thunder) were amazing as well. Compared to real thunder, games, movie, tv, ext. often sound so weak, and of course you can't replicate its true sound with our little speakers. But within our limitation, I think the sound team did the best sounding thunder I've ever heard out of speakers.
Actually almost cried from how insanely epic and perfectly designed this boss was.

And the fact Bayle once betrayed Placidusax and ripped off some of his heads and Placidusax responded back by tearing off his leg and shredding his wings and Bayle ran away after that knowing he couldnt fight back and right after that Placidusax basically issued an order for the Dragon Communion to hunt down the lesser dragons which Bayle was in charge of

Yah, after Bayle fled
Placidusax started the dragon communion and used Bayle's kin (the drakes/lesser dragons) as a sort of sacrifice by using their hearts to make sure Bayle doesn't return and made it so that the dragon communion only hunts the lesser dragons as a symbol of "fck you" to Bayle wherever he is
They both did serious damage to one another, placi is absolutely shredded

Is it just me or did Bayle have one of the hardest buildups of any Souls boss besides maybe Gael or Isshin(then again I haven't foughten and defeated any major bosses besides Rellana and the Dancing Lion so im sure i have much more to see)
I have fought every major boss in the DLC. Nothing compares to Bayle except for maybe the final boss.

Bayle had the best buildup of any boss in series my god! Meeting Igon, the great dragon communion site, the promise to devour the heart of Bayle, facing more and more dragons along the jagged peak and finally the storm rising as you ascend!

Every single dragon in FromSoftware's DLC got a crazy build-up (Kalameet, Sinh, Midir...) and yet Bayle managed to top *everyone.*

This boss fight was just a masterpiece. The entire feel of jagged peaks, the lore of Bayle... the one who fought The Dragonlord Placidusax and cut his heads and Igon's questline and then finally when you reached the summit, you face Bayle The Dread along with Drake Hunter Igon (marvellous voice acting.) and this wonderful music to top it all. Really enjoyed this part of DLC.

Both are fantastic dragon fights but Midir still has the crown imo. Bayle's camera is a little too messy. If that's tweaked then yes, Bayle can take the spot. I'm not saying Bayle's a bad fight, far from it

It's such an odd theme. For a dragon character who's your typical purely malicious villian, even some lore that I found explains that he and Placi had a run in and both were majorly injured (Placi losing a head and Bayle his wings) and the spell description when you partake in his heart says that the anger still flows within it and will eventually consume your body and soul, it's still odd. I can feel the villiany in the theme but it cuts to a somber violin near the end parts of the 2 phases. It's oddly tragic considering the pure malice his character has.
It's definitely a weird fit, but the phase transition strings accompany the transformation perfectly. This scarred, burnt husk you're fighting regaining its status as Dragon... It's like a look at what might have been, had Bayle not tried to dethrone Placidusax. It doesn't follow the stated narrative very well, but I like that the music tells a story all its own, and one which is immediately recognizable in the context of a Souls game.
I think it was very fitting , Bayle was not described as evil but rather dreadful and terryifing , and this scene gives this exact feeling , that you face a terrifying and really powerful creature that is beyond you , and now the dragonhunt reaches it's peak where you and Igon must give every drop of your being to defeat this terrible creature beyond the strength of men or dragon.

I think it's also that Bayle was technically not a bad guy at first. He only went for Placi because Placi was pretty much the dragon version of racist and was purging Bayle's descendents for being "lesser". Of course he would be angry but also somber, his entire legacy is being wiped out and he couldn't even kill the guy who gave the orders.
The racial cleansing only happened in response to Bayle trying to kill Placidusax, it wasn't a thing before

Easily my favorite fight along with Messmer and Midra. Bayle transcended every dragon fight Fromsoft had done, literally a peak boss fight.
One of the best. My fav is messmer so far
They really hyped this dragon up to be a massive deal with all the lead up to him. And dear god it paid off. I didn't expect them to go so hard.
Plus a good dragon boss is a huge breath of fresh air after the average ancient dragon.

Love how Bayle and Igon are a shoutout to Balerion and Aegon from GRRM. A dragon civil war is such a cool thing to reveal happened, and that Dragon Communion is just Placidusax using humans to get revenge on Bayle and his ilk. And Igon after his very own white whale, a black dragon.
the first dark souls already featured dragons betraying each other and using humans / trying to transform humans into dragons. Feel like until we exactly know what grrm did contribute we shouldnt just blindly attribute every minor detail to him

My dad would have loved this boss fight. He was always a Tolkien nerd and a huge fan of fantasy dragons, so we used to play Spyro when I was a kid and he really liked seeing all the different dragons in the game. He wasn't big on videogames but I would always show him when a game had a cool dragon in it and he'd get really excited watching me fight it. Obviously when I first played Demon Souls and got to the Dragon God, I called him over to see and he was in disbelief of how much games changed and how cool it was. He really went "Man, that's a badass dragon!" and for some reason I really liked that, it was very dorky but adorable. From Soft games immediately became his favorite and I would always show him the dragons in the games. Even when I got my own apartment I would send him screenshots and he even came over a couple times to watch me play Dragon Shrine in DS2. We'd laugh because I would go "Man, that's a badass dragon!" every time a dragon was on screen, and there's A LOT of dragons in that level lol. One of the very last conversations we had back in 2020 was while he was in the hospital and I couldn't visit him, but I would text him every day. I was playing Sekiro back then, so I sent him a few screenshots fighting the Divine Dragon and despite being very weak at that point he loved it. He was a joyous man to the very end. I cried that night reading that conversation we had through text, going over his message over and over: "man, that's a badass dragon!!!"
I would have loved for him to see this, knowing him, the instant he saw Bayle he would have jumped from his seat and said: CURSE YOU BAYLE! I HEREBY VOW, YOU WILL RUE THIS DAY! BEHOLD, A TRUE DRAKE WARRIOR! AND I, IGON! YOUR FEAR MADE FLESH. SOLID OF SCALE YOU MIGHT BE, FOUL DRAGON, BUT I WILL RIDDLE WITH HOLES YOUR ROTTEN HIDE! WITH A HAIL OF HARPOONS! WITH EVERY LAST DROP OF MY BEING!

this is the best dragon fight in the series, the fact that bayle is somehwhat disabled but is even harder and stronger then midir means that if he wasnt disabled, he would be a fucking nightmare, the build up to his fight is the best build up in the series, I felt genuinely intimidated with the idea of approaching this boss fight, like this feels like im walking into the home of a fucking dragon godzilla

It might as well be a remembrance boss, tbh. The Heart of Bayle can be exchanged for one of two rewards, just like every other remembrance (except for the DLC final boss, which has 3 rewards). Only difference is that the Heart can't be duplicated like a remembrance can, and that you do it at the Grand Altar instead of going to Enia.
I associate any remembrance boss with anything having a special kill screen. Bayle has "Legend Felled" so it definitely counts.

Aegon the Conqueror was the dragonrider for Balerion the Black Dread. Igon the Drake Warrior feared yet still bravely fought Bayle the Dread. There is something SO perfect about this. And at around 1:12, you can hear the influence from Ramin Djawadi's Targaryen theme, it diverts rather quickly but for a moment, it's so clearly there.
This absolutely has to be my favorite dragon battle FromSoft has created to date, the build-up, the tension of the climb as you witness all the dragon corpses, Igon's voice acting, the imposing presence, everything comes together beautifully. On top of it being a fun little ASOIAF reference. Top notch stuff right here.

Riding up that mount, with first 2 normal dragon bosses, then an ancient dragon boss, then all the dragon corpses to finally arrive at the top and see Bayle??? I mean this was just Epic. A true rival to Midir imo, doe Midir is still my little puppy :)
You know how much you have to hate someone, to climb a hellish landscape, just to tell them personally you hate them?
The amalgamation of all the sounds during the second phase, the violin as he crashes back down, it’s truly a testament to what a gaming soundtrack can be.
It’s like star wars level it’s absolutely absurd how high quality and immersive these soundtracks where from this to the soundtrack along with the fingers and then not to mention the tone approach to the shaman village with birds flying away to initiate the original Elden beast two cords in a calming yet haunting soundtrack was so good.
I would have loved more lore from the dlc but besides that I think everything including music and atmosphere this game has blown me away at so many different sections it’s crazy
i’m pretty sure this is my favorite boss in all of elden ring, and his theme cements that declaration. Perfect for someone who’s entire life was defined by treachery.

My interpretation is that the 1st phase is Igon's theme, or more accurately the theme of Igon's struggle with Bayle. The 2nd phase is all Bayle the Dread, forefather of the drakes. The vile, foul dragon of havoc and destruction.
I do wonder why Florissax comments that Igon reminds her of Bayle from the past.

Both Igon and Bayle have crazy aura. Bayle was the third main boss I beat in the DLC and doing Igon’s quest line made it go so hard. The intimidating ass climb up the Jagged Peak mixed in with Igon going from a pathetic old man to an absolute gigachad with a voice that can lead an army was insane.

the slow climb up the mountain with the storm getting more intense as you go plus the dragons you go through on the way up are such a good build of anticipation. honestly it would work even if there wasnt a single enemy in the area just for how much atmosphere there is
