🧠I believe it is essential to be mindful of the more introverted and logical people in a group when we lead "icebreakers" that would otherwise induce eye rolls. If you want great, easy-to-implement ideas, here is a ton of FREE, printable resources I created for ya: weand.me/tools/
Chad that has been my favourite of all your connection before content exercises. it has so many uses both serious and fun. I tried it out immediately in the office just now, and the Friday afternoon energy and noise went up 10 x fold. Brilliant thanks. My only view on the pre-prepared questions is that it 'may' restrict people's own creativity which I see as part of the brain warm up and intel for me to see how their brain works. Thanks for making my Friday mate.
Great activity...thought of a few different variations as you were talking to use with students, colleagues, and creative problem solving ideas with colleagues Yes to the card deck....
If you can believe it, I almost failed public speaking in college because of those hand movements haha. They're uncontrollable and mostly unconscious, ha! And I'm glad you appreciate them 🙂
@@chad.littlefield, I bought the Connect Tool kit from Amazon (apologies. Should have bought from your website) and will be utilizing them on Monday at a team offsite. Wish me luck.
YES! YES! YES! Card decks covering the various themes would be wonderful! Some participants gain more comfort and react better in group situations having that tangible piece in their hands to get them talking.
I need to do some ice breakers that are really intentional about teaching motivational interviewing. This is a great idea for "If a client said I don't need to be here" then....
The proposed deck of cards would be terrific! It's difficult to get left-brained and/or shy types to feel comfortable sharing early in a gathering. I think drawing out this type of personality is especially challenging for right-brained facilitators. IF/THEN Statements are so spot on for me as I work with software developers! Right-brained participants easily understand the exercise and can immediately participate in the icebreaker. That makes this a great way to bridge both types of thinkers which will really help get people engaged and connected. As with your "We! Connect Cards" there could be colors to indicate a range of IF statements from frivolous to serious so the facilitator can more quickly turn the connection towards the content.
I love this! Thanks Chad. There is so much value in watching you work "live" with a group and then dissecting it. Thanks also to the group you were working with giving permission to share this with the world! And cards - yes please! Fantastic idea...
@@chad.littlefield I had a thought the other day about the cards too. Maybe with groups who have been together for a while you could turn it around and start with the "then ..." comment and the other person has to come up with the "if ..." - it has the potential to be really funny (or maybe I just have a warped sense of humour)???
Yes, I would like to have what if/then cards. I’m definitely going to explore the idea of using to connect employees on cultural differences and company values.
Yes -I'd be interested in that deck of cards to help my clients identify heir shared values. If you saw a colleague wince at somebody else's thoughtless microaggression, then ... If somebody came to meetings late three times in a row, then... If a colleague made disparaging remarks about another employee in confidence, then...
If - Then Cards would be amazing! Great idea. I would like more tips on how to bring logically-minded folks into the connection before the content sphere.
Noted! The main/first video of my Connection Before Content Masterclass provides tons of useful data/science around CBC to help increase buy-in for logically minded folks. HOWEVER...the most powerful single tool I can share quickly is a "...so that..." intention. More on that here: ua-cam.com/video/KK9KU97bPcg/v-deo.html
Themed decks sound great! I like the idea of tossing some 'softballs' out to the group as a warmup but also later in a session on values to let them perhaps process deeper topics.
Love this! I plan to use this with a group that needs to build off each other's ideas. They currently appear to be cautious to add or embelish a colleagues idea.
Yes! It plays a bit on the "yes, and" dynamic from improv. I imagine you are familiar with this idea? If not, it certainly has enough juice to become a future video.
Love the idea of IF cards based on cultural values - works right now for us because all our clients come up with their values and this is a great way to illustrate their values in action, especially with all the new team members organizations have ... will use next week! Thanks
Jody! Noted. You may really love this exercise that I detail here called "Visualizing Values" too: ua-cam.com/video/oPm4JBD7Cg4/v-deo.html It's a great one to make invisible dialogue about invisible concepts come to life with visuals/stories/etc.
Hi Chad! Such an interesting activity! Thanks for sharing. We are a training organisation based out of India and will use the IF and Then activity soon as we can. Would love the cards!
I am totally using this idea!!! And I would love a deck of cards for this activity. It would be great if there were statements included for all ages and groups. I would with youth and volunteers and their experiences are definitely different.
Very curious about the deck of cards! I'd love a free printable to use with our university students to see how I can adapt/modify it around in different formats. I'd be curious about using it as a reflection for an activity....still thinking through how that may look....hmmmm...now my wheels are turning....
Thanks for the inspiration. I love the idea of a deck of cards, especially since they can be versatile and fit various subjects with the creation of categories. You mentioned cultural values and I can see that happening in New Hire Orientation...or Ethical values for New Hires as well as Supervisors, or unconscious bias in interviewing...Wow, the options are endless! Thanks again.
Ha, indeed! When working with an U.S. based audience, I usually mention as a humorous note afterward that "it is also American Sign Language...but Australian sounds cooler." Collects a cheap laugh :-)
You never cease to amaze me! Always finding new ways to make connections. I would love a card deck of statements to use with a couple of different groups I facilitate. You rock!
Once again, super fun and useful Chad, thank you. As we say in Australia, this is going straight to the pool room :-) Oh, and by the way, I like the idea of adding this content to cards, but to be honest, I think a downloadable one-pager PDF with a bunch of IF... THEN... statements is all you'd need (keep in mind, this is coming from Mr No Props :-))

This is a great activity with or without the cards to structure the discussion!
I want that deck of cards! If you make it….. Then I will buy it!

Would love the card deck!
This sounds like a great ice breaker! Yes to the deck of cards! A Cultural Values deck, Ethics deck, Random deck, many possibilities.
Also would appreciate the card deck as you described, Chad, and especially as Theresa's remarks below frame them...
I would love cards but maybe aimed at different groups, ie: work settings, school settings. Also having these cards in Spanish would be great as well
Great to know! Do you know that printable versions of our We! Connect Cards are available in 10+ languages right at: www.weand.me/free
