  • Today we will have a look at who and what determines VMC, what a critical engine is and what factors come into play. Please join CFI, CFII and most importantly, MEI instructor, Kevin Rice, as he explains VMC in a powerful, unique and easy to understand way. As always, with any rating, we suggest using FAA approved material for studying and only using other resources as supplements to helping you with your knowledge. Good luck, future pilots! We hope you enjoy!

In your SMACFUM you said the most unfavorable weight is max gross which is incorrect. The heavier the airplane, the lower the aircraft’s Vmc. The lighter the airplane, the higher the aircraft’s Vmc. You also keep mentioning "Part 25.149". Part 25 is "AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS: TRANSPORT CATEGORY AIRPLANES". The Seminole and most of our small GA twins were not certified under that. They are all under Part 23 under "AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS: NORMAL CATEGORY AIRPLANES".

It will be more appropriate to quote FAR 23.149 instead of 25.149 unless your student is going to take his add-on training in a transport category airplane.
