    The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

      @@futurez12 Have you considered that 'hard work' does not only consist of physical training but also of a rigorous discipline of the mind?
      She shines because of this.... which of those 'thousands of ladies who've worked just as hard, if not harder' can claim to be mentally as strong?

    • @futurez12
      @futurez12 2 роки тому

      @@ricklee5431 Absolute BS. Phil Taylor (a legend darts player) completely dominated the darting world for almost 2 decades. For years, people said it was because he was mentally tougher than the rest, then the rest started putting in the same practice hours as him (it wasn't a thing until people caught on to what he was doing), fast forward 5-10 years and they caught him up and surpassed him, to the point where he couldn't even buy a win.
      Put ability up against "mental strength" and the most able will win almost every single time. I suppose you believe that Federer, and Djokovic dominate/dominated because of their "mental strength"? You only need to use your eyes to see that they have the most playing ability. It's so clear to see. This is true for all of the 'greatest,' they're all just better than the rest, which is probably 99% down to a mixture of talent and the best kind of deliberate practice hours.
      Do you think Federer is mentally tougher than someone like Ivan Lendl? who was known for his so-called mental toughness... Federer would smash him all over the court because he's a better player. You might say it's a different era, but if mental strength was important then it wouldn't matter what era a player was from. No amount of "mental strength" can overcome a big deficit in pure ability. Sure, you can catch someone on an off day and say that their opponent "beat them mentally" but that's more BS, it was just an off day, even the greatest have them. And BTW, if you made it as a professional tennis player, you have "mental strength" in abundance, no matter what your ranking.

The super secure strokes, great movement, and ability to attack on both sides surely wears down the opponents mentally, even to the point of making them overplay. I remember a player saying Djokovic made the court seem so small, and I suspect that's what Emma's opponents might be thinking.
