  • Join us on Urban Valor for an exclusive interview with Lepcis Vasquez, a former sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, who shares her compelling and harrowing journey from 2016 to 2021. Lepcis opens up about her life, detailing her experiences with remarkable courage and honesty. Get an in depth look at the realities of military service, the personal battles faced both in and out of uniform, and the resilience required to make it through adversity.
Lepcis discusses her early life in San Diego, California, where she grew up in what she describes as a privileged environment. Despite this, she joined the Marine Corps to support her family financially and to pursue higher education, a decision that came with its own set of challenges and expectations versus reality. She talks about the rigorous demands of boot camp, her initial experiences with firearms, and the stark contrast between her expectations of military service and the harsh realities she encountered.
Lepcis's tumultuous relationship with a fellow Marine, which led to a forced engagement and a marriage marked by abuse and manipulation. She openly shares the struggles she faced in seeking safety and justice within the military system, detailing the systemic failures that put her life in danger.
Lepcis's story is not just one of struggle but also of resilience and recovery. She discusses the lasting impact of her experiences on her mental health and her journey towards healing. Urban Valor is proud to bring to light Lepcis Vasquez's story, a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming odds.

I am deeply saddened by all that she has gone through. That bastard Marine Sgt. should have went to prison. She was drunk and did not give consent. As long as he received sick pleasure, he was some tough Marine. He wouldn't make it in Chicago trying that shit over there. A complete bastard. If she was someone's sister, daughter, girlfriend or wife, I wonder how she would be viewed. I hope and pray she gets better with each passing day.

The average person, remember integrity, does not understand what this Marine went through. She herself, sadly, took a while to finally understand the danger she was in. Having an insensitive Command does not help; if anything, it empowers the abuser. The Marine Corps has not changed in many ways. As a military branch and organization, it is so severely disconnected and dysfunctional when it comes to situations like this and others involving abuse. Vasquez's command violated her safety by not protecting her. She was early on to stay away from that disturbed Marine and ignored everyone. It is part of how many woman view and understand sometimes warnings. They are completely different from men. I have known women who have suffered Domestic Violence and they think and respond very similar.
I am very disappointed and disgusted that the Marines has to respond like this. It is callous and highly offensive and disrespectful. A young Woman Marine of Asian ancestry reported having been raped and attacked her Marine assailant and she ended up in the Brig until she dropped the charges. Ultimately she released after a year of incarceration and kicked out of the Marines.
What Vasquez went through I would not wish that on anyone. Just think if she was your sister or daughter, how would you feel?
A good documentary about how the military responds to sexual violence towards women and some men, watch The Invisible War. It was aired on PBS documentary (Public television). The attitudes of the Marines in her unit is so disturbing. Belittling her to get some pleasure from it. I am so glad I completed my time and got the fuck out!

Bravo Zulu Marine. Many many years ago. I was assigned to work in the Family Service Center. Listening to what you survived through. Brought back some very unfortunate memories of that time. Hold your head high and you walk tall and with purpose. Find your peace, it's there. Find your faith. I am not going to just tell you things that you haven't already heard a million times over. Except for one, don't give up on yourself. You are better than that. Semper Fi Marine. [ I am way to old to hit on you lol... it's just that I'm a retired Marine and a Father of three daughters. This.. your story should never have happened. But you tell your story and you continue to tell it. With all of this behind you now, take what you learned and use it to overcome. ( Improvise, adapt, and overcome ). Regardless of what the Marine Corp didn’t do for you, you still have that blood in you and It can’t be washed away. Look back at all you have overcome, who you are now and never be a victim.

And good for you telling them off at the end. Nothing pisses me off more than when victims suffer because of “the people in charge” ‘s incompetence and then are never held accountable. As a former Seabee and the father of a beautiful daughter, I find this story heartbreaking. It's hard to imagine that this sort of behavior is still tolerated. I have heard stories like this years ago, but after the Tailhook incident, a lot of things changed. Apparently, they went right back to the way they were. Good for you for calling out all the people who abused you (and that's what they did). They need some shame on them!

I love her. I second the fuck you’s to the joke so called marines NCO’s & CO’s - pathetic repugnant awful leaders who are not leaders & hopefully they pay 7 fold minimum in return. Lost a ton of respect for the marine corps due to this - still functioning in the early 1900’s. God we need to change so much. I so hope she finds the peace & happiness she has worked & works so hard for and has earned. Peace to her. She’s more marine than every other she was around.

Within the video’s first few minutes, I knew this was not going to end well. You’re too innocent, too pretty and too gentle for the marines. The guy you married has a N.P.D….narcissistic personality disorder. This is a permanent and untreatable mental condition. Narcissists are charming, then controlling and they always leave human wreckage in their wake. Like myself, it is most likely you’ll forever be battling these demons. Medicines are evolving. If one stops working, keep looking for doctor(s) that will prescribe you something that’ll help. And yes, I was in the marines. God’s speed.

But as the chips fall, it may have been worse. If you felt like shit in Lejeune, every boot does, lots of little fish being biten by slightly bigger fish, with nothing to do but inflate their ego's. The Narcissist that married you should have been dealt with properly. If Command wouldn't do it, your shop should have. The cover-up is àlways more impactful to the victim. I hope the Sun is on your face and the wind at your back moving forward. ❤

That's not the Corps we were in! WE KNEW better than to even remotely F up let alone do something such as the story presented here while married. But after 8 years of B.O. as CIC plus the b.s. he introduced into the military ranks and I don't care if people get butt hurt over this, it's been a damn mess since and it keeps sinking deeper and deeper. The ship got loose from the top down and its not good but it is what it is. Young people think they know it all yes, whether in the military or in civilian life but glad she is doing well now, you live and learn. Her perspective on MCT and not handling chaos very well should paint a clear pic of who should and shouldnt be in combat. We men are same way among one another or at least we were, it could get very intense and talking sht, playing games and being extremely competitive so allllll that is normal believe me. The Corps and the military at that should never be a govt social experiment, it's not a game nor civilian crossfit or some junk like that lol. Lastly, there is a reason why the Marine Corps was/is the Marine Corps, the brotherhood was never meant to be easy as ya gotta earn it everyday on active duty. And then there were the other branches lol, carry on.

I’ve always been proud to a Marine.
But I will be the first to say that toxic leadership runs ramped in the Corps. They teach leadership and want to hold you to the highest standards. But trust me, decisions are made to build the careers of Officers and Senior Staff NCOs.
75-80% of the Corps is Corporal and below. They also get shafted because they are young and inexperienced.
I would love nothing more than for this young lady to have her story made into a book, and then a movie.
These stories need to get told.
