Maxi has a fragment of Soul Edge within him due to a village healer helping him after his final fight in Soulcalibur 1. This healing ritual however made him lose his memories of Kilik and Xianghua. While searching for Astaroth he comes across the ruins of Fygul Cestemus and Kunpaetku (The leader of Fygul Cestemus and creator of Astaroth). After learning that Kunpaetku created Astaroth, Maxi killed him and felt the fragment throb within him.
The ending shown is the input ending.
(We don't need another Maxi 'Death'). The ending also shows the cages on the port in Rock's input ending. This shows Aeon (Lizardman) Calcos, Olcadan and Rock locked up in cages.
The footage is taken from the PlayStation 2 version of the game.
