Interesting to compare this to the official model coming out. I'd say that this is a cleaner display model, but the technic mobility features on Lego's set are really cool. Two very different approaches that get cool but different results.
I’m sure that they’re going to update their model when the official one comes out. Especially since there’s a one-off piece for the front, and the longer wings. I bet they’re going to completely re-design the cockpit for their moc. The official sets cockpit is far more accurate visually.
The Orthithopter isn’t actually used by all the great houses. It’s a vehicle built specifically for the planet Arrakis. It’s wings beat in a way that doesn’t draw the great worms to it presence. You can’t use vehicles with great thrusters over the dunes because they cause too much disturbance.
The moment I finish my own moc you guys release this gem, of course. All jokes aside this is an incredible moc, you guys did one of the coolest ships in sci fi some well deserved justice, do you guys think you could attempt the Fremen or Harkonnen thopters next? I’d love to see your take on these insane vehicles.
Bought the instructions and ordered the parts on BL. As a massive Dune fan ever since I read the book age 13 this is a dream come true. Thank you guys so much! Can't wait to build and display this!
Was what you payed for parts the same as on the website? Wanting to get this for a huge dune fan for his birthday. Just don't want to get the instructions, expecting to pay $135 for parts, but for some reason it jumped to $400 or something.
I built this last weekend. Overall I really loved it. It was a blast to build and it looks beyond amazing! I had no idea how huge this thing would be. Like it takes up half my desk. It's awesome! One thing I should say though is that this is a model purely for displaying. While the wings do fold it takes forever to do so and they break at the smallest movement. The landing gear also does extend but if you put it down on its gear it simply collapses under the weight of its own body. Also since I chose to build this with a fellow Dune-fan I had to transport it back home and despite my best efforts it did not survive the trip at all. Took me about two hours to put everyting back together. Bottom line this is an extremely fragile model but if you, like me, just want to build and display it I cannot recommend it enough. It's without a doubt the most awesome looking thing I've ever built (and that includes my own designs)
I have to say I greatly prefer the brickbuilt wings option, but either way the model looks absolutely great. A very pleasant surprise to see this craft having a newfound presence in your store :D
A truly awesome MOC! And one I’ll definitely be buying in time. In terms of ships from other sci-fi franchises, I’ve yet to see much done with the Halo universe (aside from ground vehicles etc) I think there’s real potential there 👍🏽
The way you managed to make windscreens angles perfectly match is incredible! I am trying to do a similar project in a slightly larger scale and the cabin was a nightmare. No I am struggling with foldable wings as well. It is my first lego project and maybe I should have strarted with something easier to design.
I kinda want a Dune lego Line, it would easily make a good - small Set Line with Harkonnen, fremen and Arteides Battle Packs, Spice harvester, Ornithopter and Harkonnen labder Sets. This would make for a great Line, considering the Bene gesserit Show and Villeneuv movies
Looks more like fusion of Atreides and Harkonnen thopters (the one with 6 wings), but still incredible looking MOC! Will buy definitely. Oh and also would be awesome to see that light thopter with orange windows in LEGO form!
It would be very cool for you guys to build a minifig-scale spice harvester and maybe even a little diorama of it getting eaten by Shai-Hulud (the Sandworms), it would incorporate the ornitopthers very well as the actual scene in the new movie's scene shows them off very well too. Just a lil' tip for you guys!
Good news a $164.99 18+ LEGO Icons Ornithopter set is coming out next year and I really hope that the set takes some inspiration from this amazing MOC set

Is the final model mostly dark bluish grey? In the video it looks that way, but the photos on the instructions page on the store, it looks light bluish grey. Not sure if that is just lighting differences or actually different colored versions of the model?
Al that junk is because this is dune and dune was right by Jules Verne was alive during the 1800s so it’s going to be slow. I don’t care if it is, you just have a short attention span to see the pros. My advise is pay attention more.

This is a really incredible moc. Something you'd never imagine to even be possible in Lego. Mad props to the designer.

You forgot to add that wings of Ornithopter have flapping pattern that gives wind blowing upon sand feel of Sand Walk of Fremen.

It's not a spaceship. its a aerial support vehicle. it's a Helicopter otherwise the chopper blades wouldn't work because no air in space.

The wings doesn't fold back properly. It should turn 180 degrees and then back. Just something I noticed. Very nice looking model tho.
This blows away the lego icons version that just came out. lego needs to hire these custom guys and do a better job

Using a tan base plate and a whole lotta tooth bits you could make a sand worm breaking the surface which would be a good base for this model.
