Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I am a 6 handicap that putts like a 15 handicap according my to Golfmetrics stats. I watched this video and I realised I fit the pattern. I had one practice putting session and hit the course. I made a 15 foot putt on the 1st and a 25 foot putt on the second for 2 birdies. I finished the round as a +8 handicap putting. Great video I feel super confident I am now not fighting my natural tendencies.

This breakdown on the claw grip is amazing. It all makes sense now. I used to putt well cross handed but never could get distance control right. Tried the claw recently and my putting is better than ever.

Thank you. That’s me. I’d miss 3 footers on the left and right. One hand would just take over. This explains that. I tried it and it works for me. Thanks for this information.

Great explanation of the claw grip, and why it can be so effective. Thank-you!

He’s the best and this is really great putting instruction. He shows you how to putt naturally instead of fighting with your stroke.

After 40 years of playing, I just switched over to the claw grip 4 days ago. It immediately felt more natural and the ball just grabs the ground and rolls beautifully end over end now. I could make it roll well sporadically with the conventional grip, but now it rolls true nearly every time!

When you shut the pivot down and put your right hand (power) in a weaker position, where are you feeling the motion driving from? It’s hard to not feel the left hand take over the motion and shoulders move more

I have used the claw grip for almost 10years now. Nowdays my putting is the strongest part in my game. Question - what type of putter do you recommend - face balance or toe hang ?

  • @800wooden

@edel_golf would you still recommend a small, circular edel putter grip for a cover golfer using the claw grip? Thanks for the amazing content!!

This is a phenomenal revelation! I am 4 inches longer in wingspan than height & 2+ inches longer in forearm than upper.
Question: rather than claw, could lower hand grip be me more like holding a can of soda or beer? In practice i am preferring that hold….

Hi David, will the claw still work for me if I’m a side cover but my forearm and upper arm measurements are the same? Thanks!

What degree of toe-hang would be best for a putter when using the claw grip?

I'm 6'1" with a forearm length 1.75" longer. What is a good putter length to incorporate the technique demonstrated in your video?

Yeah the stroke relying on the dumb joint (elbow) rather than shoulder rotation really struck me as genius. Over hand position seems like it will be more natural as well! I’m dying for a new approach and have been left hand low for 15 years. How many months of practice does it take for claw to feel natural.

When Tommy Fleetwood transitioned to it, he said he did it over the winter.

I have a fitting booked for tomorrow at golftec. I am hoping that the body mechanics are the first part of the assessment. When my putting is off I feel like I am battling my equipment, or is my equipment battling my body type? I like your ideology but I am worried that an inexperienced fitter may do things in the wrong order further bandaging the root cause of putting problems. How can I make sure my Edel fitting at golf tech is legit?

    • @edel_golf
      @edel_golf  2 роки тому

Every Golftec location has been trained on our fitting procedures. I wouldn't have any hesitation and trust the process. As you try different components, you'll be made very aware of what works and what doesn't. Let us know how it goes!

Do yourself a big favor and build a wooden putter with a square shaft. Then ride the square part of the shaft on a stairstep located one step up from the ball. That forms a single fixed tilted plane. What you will find is that the UNROTATED shaft is indeed an ARC and the putter blade APPEARS to open and close despite the fact that it cannot possibly rotate (because it is a square riding on the single plane stair step above). That all happens because most people do not have the actual mental capacity to understand what happens on a single tilted plan and never will. THE SHAFT LENGTH CANNOT GROW ALL BY ITSELF. The primary purpose of the claw grip is close to what you say. It is to help make the putter be stroked on a single tilted plane without any rotation. It marries to the big flat spot on the top of the putter grip. And this is why tour players today are so damned good on short putts. The people who make "The Putting Arc" sell a separate clip on device (to the putter shaft) to illustrate the same thing as the wooden putter I tell you to build. BTW - I can make 100 in a row from six feet with my right hand only just like Tiger simply because I understand all of this. The main purpose of his right hand only drill is to RELEASE the putter UNDERNEATH (not around) and thus unrotated. Some touring pros use a long putter to do the same thing in practice only. The left upper hand simply suppresses the rotation and does nothing else. It teaches one to go UNDERNEATH unrotated with the putter blade (again, not around). Lock all the rotation out with the left hand. But remember, the blade itself is STILL GOING TO APPEAR TO OPEN AND CLOSE ON AN ARC. You even see that if you look closely at Tiger videos. To discount the ARC and the appearance only of opening and closing is to remain a putting hack.
