  • The Claw Putting Grip is becoming more and more popular as golfers seek to find a method which reduces hand action during the stroke and helps stabilise the clubface. The Claw isn’t for everyone, however, we are seeing the putting method used successfully on the @PGA TOUR.
    Players popularising this unique and funky looking putting grip are Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Tommy Fleetwood and Phil Mickelson. Other players to try out The Claw include Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Chris DiMarco, Mark Calcavecchia and Mark O'Meara.
    The Claw Grip is effective because it allows the player to take the bottom hand out of play. The idea is to reduce hand action and promote a more pendulum type putting stroke, employing the shoulders to rock the putter back and through.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Steve Gannon and Glen Haynes created Aussie Golf Pros to provide a learning platform for golfers of all levels. They post content regularly on social media accounts. Their website, www.aussiegolfpros.com, includes blogposts, golf coaching series and links to great programs. New content, videos and downloads are added regularly.
    Golf Coaches, Not Teachers
    The Aussie Golf Pros are holistic coaches in every sense of the word. Steve and Glen are both fully qualified members of the PGA of Australia and are avid students of the Sports Sciences. Together, they are certified in Advanced Golf Coaching, Golf Psychology, TPI (Body-Swing Connection), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Personal Development and Skill Acquisition.
    Steve and Glen are not ‘Method’ coaches. They recognise that there are literally 1000’s of ways to swing a golf club! Rather than try to ‘change’ your swing, their goal is to help You Be The Best Golfer You Can Be!
    Skill Development vs Technical Changes
    Although technique is an important factor in improving a golfer’s performance, Skill Development is largely neglected in golf coaching today. Skill is something that can be tangibly improved with proper understanding of the golf impact laws and effective practice towards improved performance.
    External Focus of Attention
    Most golf teaching involves an internal focus. Common suggestions might include increased hip turn, a still head or improved hand path. These are all factors of the golf swing, which many golfers and teachers consider important. However, as they are focused internally, on movements of the body, golfers find changes extremely difficult to process.
    Enter the world of External Focus of Attention. This means that instead of focusing on body parts, a golfer can and should focus more on the target, the ball, the clubhead - objects which are external to the body. The sciences involving Motor Skill Learning have proven that by employing an External Focus of Attention, sports men and women learn new moves more quickly, retain changes more readily and can perform better under pressure.
    All of the Aussie Golf Pros coaching, drills and advice for clients and viewers, involve an External Focus of Attention and the results can be astonishing!
    I HAD TO GO TO THIS GRIP. I was an absolute mess with my putting yips to the point of embarrassment.
    Great explanation here.
    I’m not sure if it’s a matter of my physical build, but this grip and set up feels natural and effortless for me.
    My putts are straight, I hit through the ball, and my hands are very quiet.
    Thanks once again Glen for another great video. I use the conventional putter grip, always have, and feel very confident with it. Putting is the strongest part of my game.
    Cheers
    Thanks Coach. You always look super comfy with the Claw 👍. A year since our virtual putting lesson during Covid19 and I feel really comfortable. Whilst I'm not a Claw Man, my start lines and speed control are MUCH better 😁👍.
    In late Nov20 we had our first swing lesson and I also changed balls. I've gone from a 3.0 to a 1.4.... it wasn't due to the ball change!! 👍 Thanks for you're great insight and eagle eyes - looking forward to our next lesson Pro 😁😎
    Thanks Glen ..Ive been using the claw grip consistently over the last 2 years ..works for me ( control and less bottom hand interference) but I seem to come in short of the hole on longer puts ..Guess I need to get a little more aggressive on the longer putts ..
      Hi Farhad, leaving long putts short is a common issue for golfers, but it’s not because of your claw grip! Check out: Myth No.4 - Accelerate Through Putts - ua-cam.com/video/wSWC3_xv8Vc/v-deo.html - Thank you for watching, Glen
      Tried it today for the first time in comp, i agree short putts were great, longer putts keep coming up short, but they were right line, very encouraging just need practice with it
    The claw seems to hold the face on you're line rather than traditional and it traveling inside
      Thank you for your question James. Same principles apply. Putting isn’t dominated by one side, it’s a shoulder rocking motion.
