The comments saying that it was embarrassing for the bodyshop are being too kind. If they think it is acceptable to repair a UA-camr's vehicle to such a poor standard then more than likely this shows their true standard of workmanship - and perhaps a 'normal' customer might even get more of a bodge job. Name and Shame the bodyshop.
*Not how they should repair anyone’s car, UA-camr or not. Being a UA-camr means maybe they’re more likely to be found out and called out, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t repair honestly and properly for non UA-camrs. Bad business and morals.
Just because it isn’t seen, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be as good as it can be!

Alot of body shops are like this, they just don't take pride in their work anymore. I had a horrendous experience with a known bodyshop, paid well above the normal price for a full respray as it is going to be a show car and they butchered the car, they painted the entire car 3 times and still couldn't get it right. Loads of missing/broken parts, metal heavily rusting where they carried out some welding repairs and they even managed to get over spray all over the leather interior. I've taken them to court for all my money back so I can get another garage to put it right.
worse part is the right guard and bumper alignment. shocking alignment.

These type of test should be mandatory for every cat S car. It would stop the bodge repairs instantly.

And the bumper fitment is stil crap...
That’s what happens when the customers tight or don’t supply the parts
Personally I’d of left it off and said whizz it back with the correct liner and fasteners and I’ll voodoo the lot on straight next time

Ive done a few of these before but stopped as it wasnt really worth it. It doesnt remove the marker, as he said it stays on it. Its only HPI that aknowledge the inspection. If someone does another scan on the car, say car vertical it still shows red and cat s
I worked in a bodyshop for many years, and if we allowed that standard of work out of the door, you'd be up the road looking for a new job.

My own Ford Edge was written off with cat. N
It was such a surprise to me, but after receiving all documentation it makes sense. Just for the car hire for 8 weeks itself was £10,300 , parts over £8000 and labour another few grands .
If the costs will be that high insurers will always write it off . No mercy

My mums a4 she had for 25 years and 270k miles, loved it and wanted to keep it. She had rhe vehicle hit and the drivers door was dented in, insurers took it to copart and was categorised as Cat B (total loss unsafe to be repaired) massive load of shite this scene, mum was not happy

Basically a Vic test wat they used to do with cat c cars back in day but now removes the cat c if repaired to factory specs . Seems good idear tbh

This is a complete check of the repair , the Vic was an identity check only completely different things altogether
A vic check was noware near as severe as this. It was mainly to check the vin numbers were genuine and un tampered. Vic stood for vehicle identity check.

In Australia, it costs at least $7500AUD for a VIV inspection, and thats just the first step. Regardless of car the cost is the same.
This type of repairs arnt viable here.

I paid for a HPI check on a 2015 Audi A5, and they failed to list the factory spec options and had the wrong amount of owners. I paid £10 with another HPI company who provided everything you'd expect. To add insult to injury, Car Vertical refused to refund me when provided with evidence of an erroneous report.

All bodyshops are shite. Insurance company's have these so called authorized specialists garages. That drag the job out for money and pay some import to do the work. There is good bodyshops out there but theyre becoming few and far between. I've been crashed into a bunch of times, take it from me do not let your insurer send you to some random garage make sure it goes to a main dealer regardless of how long it takes. It should be as good as new when finished we pay thousands in insurance for some wally in a shitbox to ruin your car
Body shops are joke in uk,as repairing damaged cars my self every single bit screw or clips always get replaced with new ones from dealer.body shop try to hide as much as they can,they just don’t care.

I had my car inspection done with Auto Align at Bassingbourn. Trust me when I say that Mark is a diamond geezer!
My car is a write off categorised vehicle with frontal damage. Its been repaired but not to a high standard (what did you expect when done in Birmingham)
I decided to get the inspection done mainly because of safety as i carry my family in the vehicle and for my peace of mind that I didn't buy a complete lemon. To my satisfaction Mark gave all the information i needed minus £300.00. I recommended every crash damage vehicle gets an inspection done with Auto Align especially Mark. Proper old school car mechanic who knows his trade.

As nd car only needs to be to age of car, so if it’s 30 year old, they want it to be a car of that age condition, I had a car put brand new shell on the car, failed on pore crash repair to the front, never had a crash , numbers cut out, and roof cuts through roof skin, proved it had new shell, they apologised, fiddled fir retest fee
Be interested to know from an insurance point of view do you still need to declare it as a Cat S vehicle as even though it's been inspected and repaired it doesn't change the fact the insurance company have previously paid out on the car as a total loss so surely they will still value it lower than another one without history?

It’s a load of crap, I used to use these when they used to remove the cat d from it totally as if never damaged, waist of time now, most cars get a cat s on them

i get what you are saying but is that dropping the ball? no its being a bodge outfit, this car was going for an inspection, and they still shoved self tapping screws in there is no excuse this is a business and getting paid for the work. sorry but that's shoddy either the staff need replacing or the boss man runs his business like this. either way stay clear and find someone who doesn't own self tapping screws for bodging cars, and the clips were in the undertray they re fitted it and didn't even attach it, so you can only imagine what happens to big hidden jobs. shambles.
@@FostersStella1 I hear your point too. Yes the detail wasn’t great, but again it depends on their brief. Many customers will want a low budget job and as such if you can use a self tapping screw over a £5 main dealer fixing, that’ll be done. With regards to the rear part of the under tray, that didn’t look apart of accident damage, not that far back and the sump untouched anyway. So therefore when doing a repair how far do you go, you certainly wouldn’t be fixing pre existing damage, unless that was specified too.

Great video Calvin, I'm sorry but no excuses, the body shop bodged that car, and even knowing it was going for a inspection. stay clear Calvin can you really imagine what they do to normal customers cars, leaving the undertray loose is one thing and shows the lack of care, but to start putting self tapping screws in places is a no go very disappointing and showed them for what they really are, i don't care what anyone says no excuses for that, such minor things and bodged like that, what must bigger jobs be done like, especially the hidden bits on peoples cars! keep up the good work Calv

Hey Calvin, what body shop did you use for the damage/spray job?
I’ve got a 2013 Mazda 3 1 owner from new with 50k miles all done by my myself.
But nearly every panel is scratched 2 big dents and bird poo has eaten some off the bonnet 😅😅😅 safe to say it needs some tlc!
Curious.. if you won this...crashed it...(not that you would)
would the insurance pay out still an adjusted value for previous cat s..
or would they pay out as normal as an not previously crashed car,,,? with condition inspected..marker

Feel like the comments about the bodyshop being bodgers are a bit harsh, they’ve done a decent job of the paintwork they’re only minor issues.

I`v never heard of a cat N or S [old C or D] being removed from a salvage vehicle. You might get a marker against it on hpi saying it`s been inspected, but they won`t remove it from register
Wow! What a pointless petty test and a waiste of time and money. f that I'll leave the cat on it and show the customer the repair. What a waiste of a day
seems a pointless process to be, you don't really achieve anything because either way someone will HPI it and see that in reality "it is" still a categorised car.... and bring the same conclusion to either buy but chip you, or walk away plus its always gonna affect the resale value of it moving forward..... I'm genuinely struggling to see any benefit if im honest.

Where the bumper meet the drivers side wing is off, it’s all flush in the Nearside but the Offside is not. It sticks out.
I got an a4 that was cat S last year and you couldnt tell why, the only damage was a scratch on the near side rear.
Probably because the insurance cost to repair by an Audi/Audi approved garage would have been wild and into the thousands .

That’s the idea tho. You’re not supposed to be able to tell. Once it’s repaired it should look sound. Forget the scratch that’s not relevant lol. Look for rough edges inside shuts. Or paint on plastics etc. you’ll soon see the reason I’m sure

The rivets being painted was minor, but still a very fine detail I would personally notice and get all OCD about 😆
