Honestly, after seeing someone bite Gale as Astarion and the interaction they have over it... this dynamic works. Gale is a depressed lonely guy with strong provider and nurturing instincts and Astarion is basically just a cat in very sexy elf form. Call me crazy but they'd be perfect together.
