hi edmund, this is paul eres, haven't talked to you in forever but we talked a bit back in the tigsource days, i think i tested one of your games back then too. happy to see you are doing well, this is a great talk.
This helps inspire me. All of this coming from a person's games I love, this truly helps me. As someone who is starting to look into doing programming and game development, this is a great thing to learn from.
What a great talk! The quality is up there with Mark Rosewater's 'Magic: the Gathering': 20 Years, 20 Lessons Learned. Its a great list of digestible game development wisdom nuggets from a veteran who's seen some shit.
ive tried making so many games throughout my time, well, trying to make games and as of the last year i've started many games but never finished them due to some bug or something (ive been using scratch since im familiar with it after about 5 years of use, and yes, im talking about that shitty kids coding block website) and just give up due to lack of motivation, but ive made so many concepts for a game within just today and i think i might actually try to finish the game, but who knows, maybe lack of motivation will kick in again. but thank you for making this video, thanks for your games, youll continue to probably forever inspire me to try to make games.
I'm pretty set on a non-game related career path at this point, but I think it would be fun to make games as a hobby. Some of these tips won't really apply to me, for example making money with any games I might not even attempt at all, and honestly even making something completely artistically unique is not a goal of mine. However, I think a lot of it holds true even for doing it as a hobby, especially "don't bite off more than you can chew" and all of the work-life balance related stuff. If I ever do actually start making games, I'll definitely be coming back to this video. On an unrelated note, I'm hyped to play the roguelike Football 2 whenever that comes out.
Edmund you def. come off as someone who would be amazing to hang out with and befriend. Thanks for the advice for future Indie Devs, because we live in a world we desperately need to have them to make games that the main industry as a whole has taken away over the years... fun. You're absolutely an inspiration to many and def. deserve your success. Stay awesome man!
Can’t believe how far Edmund has come like god I remember playing flash isaac and the original super meat boy and seeing later super meat boy getting a sequel and Isaac with repentance it’s amazing thank u Edmund for everything u have done god bless u and can’t wait for ur future games ❤️
i really stuggle with the social stuff. i know its a health thing. i have the local game development group discord but i cant bear to open the app how do you get to work with others when your entire budget is just personal time?
When next binding of Isaac DLC? With all honesty, the binding of Isaac is the best game I have played, and with all the dlc's already, I want to know, at least know, that... That there is more to the game in the future. I love the game! Even if the next update is just online multiplayer, when is the next update, game, or DLC? I love the game, and keep on the hard work! 😊
Hi Edmund, I am searching for any history of you talking about Super Meat Boy Forever, like opinions. I can't find any and assume you do not wish to comment about the game, which is understandable. However if there is any video or post about your thoughts on the game, it'd be great to have your insight.
20:46 I bet this was Fez and that Phil Fish got angry. I am sure of this because there are bombs with skulls on them and you need to use them for puzzles. I guess he wasn't too open to feedback on that
5:50 I think enough passion and financial management can carry your "big game idea" even as a first time developer - "Darkwood" would be a good example. Your game doesn't have to be small.
This is nice, but too bad I have no idea how to even learn to do this and even if I did, I cant draw or do art or anything, so whats the point anyway. I just wanted to make a visual novel lol
Edmund has always been one of my biggest inspirations since I was a kid. Really admire his outlook on art
I respect Edmund a lot for this type of thing, he seems to me to be a very humble person and he is a person from whom to learn in many ways
My favorite streamer almond mcmuffin, cant wait!

What a great list of bullet points!
I really like Edmund's mentality on creating games, truly inspiring!

Man is getting a bigger beard every time he appears
Is this actually unedited? I'm seeing some jump cuts here and there.
