Excellent video, Dan. I really felt for you when you said you had a massive burden in preserving what the chateau really stands for. I understand where you're coming from. But don't put too much pressure on yourself. Don't let this project swallow you up. You are just one man with a family to support. Make sure they come first. Work away at the chateau as you can. I hope I speak on behalf of most people watching your journey. We certainly don't expect you to restore the building in a matter or months. Or even years, to be honest. Enjoy the process. I may be coming off a bit preachy, but I don't mean to sound that way. These are probably things you already know. I just want you to remember you are not alone. You have all of us, your viewers. Profoundly moving, Dan. Rightfully so. Proud of you. The children the Chateau sheltered mattered. The people who risked everything to save them, mattered. Greatly. They have touched our lives in ways seen and unseen. You mentioned Bill Graham, the music producer. He gave us music that defines an era including acts like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Janis Joplin. Filled stadiums with the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. He produced shows with poets Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Alan Ginsberg, and improv group The Committee. Would there have been a "counterculture" without him? Would there be music that has spanned time? And he was just one of the children the chateau sheltered. Perhaps one day you will learn more about the others. Who went on to be a scientist and saved lives? Who went on to build a business. In honoring the history of the chateau and the children it sheltered, you honor the future we exist in. The future they helped create. Thank you.

He is tte David cutting off multiple ugly evil heads of Stephanie The Dragon, each head is the worst human vice. She is still trying to use tge false charm and fake it, but people see the Truth. That was one of the things I loved about living in France during my teens. Everywhere you turned there was a story about its history, and at that time, there were still many survivors of WW2 living about, ... My mother was Belgian, yes, a war bride, and every chance we got we went to visit her family. One time we were driving thru a forested area and I had to go potty. Naturally, we pull over and I went into the woods to find a friendly bush. Returning I found a German helmet, swastika and all, and showed it to my parents, asking if I could keep it. To this day I can not forget the look that crossed my mother's face before she shook her head. ... There are a lot of stories that never got told.

Bill Graham was instrumental to the music "scene" on the west coast of Calif. He was instrumental in networking/ raising funds for peace movement, civil rights, rights of Farm workers. First time at Filmore saw Cream, Jefferson Airplane and probably Eric Burdon (Animals) as they played there so often. Little known to me then, just how many groups I'd live there, Zeppelin, Beautiful Day, Janice, on & on....Bill Graham was always on site, was definitely big part of "City by the Bay"....and to think he spent "safe time" in Dan's Chateau...more than WOW.

Amazing stories. While that group of teenagers were fleeing Germany, my teenage father in the occupied Netherlands was fighting with the Dutch Resistance
in 's-Hertogenbosch. I found out many years later he was considered a hero for his covert actions.

What a brave boy to be thrown into a man's shoes like that. You must be so very proud of him, and rightly so. An uncle of mine fought as a British soldier in Italy during WW2 but he would never talk about his experiences. I only learned about it after his death.

I´m watching your Videos now for a couple Days and I knew about the Story of the Chateau, but this Video, is so touching that it made me cry.
I´m so thankful for every Children that could saved.
I am German, I am 42 years old, so 2 Generations after the WWII born, but I feel the guilt of the Nazis on my Shoulders.
I know that I am not guilty, but our Generation feels that guilt that the Nazis have done and didnt felt.
I´m so proud of you that you save this Place and bring it back to Life, make it again to a Home.

Aloha, I'm in Maui on this evening watching some older clips that I had missed, this one and was so excited when you said Bill Gram. LOLOLOL! I grew up in California in the Bay Area and went to his shows since I was 11 yrs old. The music flowed and I was a flower child, Grateful Dead Head. Bill Gram was our hero. He was a go getter and allowed the Hells Angles to do security guards at the shows he put on. The Doors , Crosby stills Nash and Young , to name a few. He changed Winterland and the Fillmore , San Fransicos Hottest music venues in the 70's and 80's. Very very cool he is a part of the chateau. His memorial was a historical event . Love the work your doing, so important. Thank you!

A massive amount of work i know well..........i've been there with young children renovating from scratch, but your children are young & they will benefit in the future. Not only living & learning in an extraordinary enviroment, but also from the history that makes us remember...... to take care of one-another. War is so wrong.........

Its a heavy weight to bare Dan, but you can do it as a tribute not only to the people who ran the Chataeu but all the children. Its going to be an amazing journey, but so worth it. Sadly it reminds us that there is a War going on at the moment and children are still suffering. The history must be told as its so important. Well done and thank you. 💕🇦🇺
