Excellent British humor. The Germans painted a red demon carrying a British tank away, so in return; the British painted an even bigger royal Lion with a paw on an A7V.
What you have to remember about the A7V is, it's basically just a sample serie of prototypes compared to the Mk's which have fixed some of the more immediate issues by the end of the war. The A7V is rather innovative for the era in it's own ways compared to the FT-17, these are best explained by Military History Visualized when he visits a replica in a museum. I mean from what i heard the A7V was a bit ahead of it's time Having ligts and dials making the commander have direct contact with the gunners. And using it's height as an advantage.
The "female" version was not a modification of a "male" version (please note the German did not use these British terms). The only A7V which was briefly a "female" was tank 501 "Gretchen", which took part in first two A7V battles (21st March and 24th April 1918) armed with 8 MG08s. In May 1918 however, it was given a 57 mm gun instead of two MGs on the front and became a standard A7V. "Gretchen" was a "female" at the beginning because originally the Germans wanted to produce both "males" and "females", but later they decided to produce "males" only. Also, in reality the Germans used in battle A7V and captured British Mark IV tanks - only these two types. Although they did capture other types of British and French tanks, they were only tested, not used operationally. Mark IV tanks were used, because around 180 were captured during the war, many of them during the battle of Cambrai in 1917.
you contradicted yourself: it was very much a modified A7V, otherwise it wouldn’t have had a separate armament layout and convert so easily it was a failed variation, they chose firepower over useless extra machine guns
The A7V was a heavy tank introduced by Germany in 1918 during World War I. One hundred chassis were ordered in early 1917, ten to be finished as fighting vehicles with armoured bodies, and the remainder as Überlandwagen cargo carriers. The number to be armoured was later increased to 20. They were used in action from March to October 1918 and were the only tanks produced by Germany in World War I to be used in combat.

Most tanks Germany had during WW1 was captured british tanks. In the beginning of the video we see British tanks with stripes painted at the front. Those stripes where added as an identifier so they could be distinguished from tanks operated by the Germans. One reason for why they only made 20 of their own model was that they realised that in comparison to the captured tanks their own model simply... sucked. A7V was popular in propaganda thou.
No. Only 20 were built because that is the amount they could build before the armistice came into effect. Originally, 100 A7V were ordered for deployment. But due to Germany industry are geared toward tank production like France and Britain did as well as their worker did not have expertise in such construction work, around 1 A7V would need 3 weeks to build, arm and load before being ready.
well, to be fair all tanks sucked during ww1. like the rest the a7v had some innovative features. others? not so much. but yes, the germans obviously thought the MK series of tanks superior hence the A7VU (dude you just copied my homework).

I wonder why nobody talks about the Renault ft (no not Renault ft 17 its actually NOT the way to call it) as in the entire first world wr it can be considered the most modern tank with multiple things: first it had a rotating turret things that the a7v or the mark tanks didnt have. also the renault was made to be massively built by industry a thing the a7v and mark tanks again didnt have as they weird mostly built by hand.
a version of this operated by AI and controlled remotely by satellite would still be fine since it would be much smaller and shoot in all directions, though many more one turrets ones would be better.

To be honest, I thought that demon painting on "Mephisto" was holding a surfboard. Anyone else see that, too?
1:33 what about the k wagon I thought it was built as well it just didn’t see combat also on that topic I have a suggestion for a k wagon video
there were 3 in varying degrees of completion by the armistice. there were also a small number of LKIIs that were then secretly sold to sweden and hungary.
Omg I didn’t know Brisbane museum had the only surviving A7V! I remember seeing it in person 😮
lucky you!
imagine the smell inside that tank
Gas and gunpowder and sweat
I’ve seen Mephisto in person and it truely is a beast of a tank
"Would the world,🗺 war,💥 2,⚁ American, 🇺🇸 built M1.bazooka anti tank rocket 🚀 launcher, or 37mm.anti tank artillery gun,🔫 go up 👆 against the world,🗺 war,💥1,⚀ imperial German,🇩🇪 built A7V tank?"
@@joeerickson516 it would be overkill, bazooka was more than sufficient to penetrate thin armored ww1 tank ,even high enough caliber and anti tank rifle would have no problem gone trough ,and I don't judge, but what's up with the excessive use of emoji?
Hi Simple history maybe for your next video can you Do Operation Gothic Serpent? Or the battle of mogadishu?
Or can u Do a History of Green berets in vietnam lol!
This is one of the coolest videos you've ever done, reminds me of the cross sections of the encyclopedias of my childhood, so awesome
I think that tank looks kinda cute, for a war machine. Probably not what the creators of it want to hear but *shrug*
Battlefield one did a terrible job at recreating crew capacity
I had the privilege of seeing the last surviving one with my own eyes, Mephisto was huge, even in comparison to a lot of modern tanks.
lucky you!
BF1 is still massively popular, please make more WW1 videos, such an interesting period
So, if you lost one of these you basically lost an entire platoon worth of soldiers.

"Mainly on the female variant"
You knew exactly what you were doing, Simple History...
BRO💀🙏
Please more WW1 Content!
@@johncarter4956 The where however inferior with an abysmal terrain capability.
well, to be fair all tanks sucked during ww1. like the rest the a7v had some innovative features. others? not so much.
but yes, the germans obviously thought the MK series of tanks superior hence the A7VU (dude you just copied my homework).
Asbestos impregnated suits? That would not be OSHA approved these days lol
Well in WW2 the US gave soldiers lead flasks that were cheaper. Obviously, didn't last long.
@@Red14998 it youre talking about canteens, untrue. they used aluminum, stainless steel, enameled steel, and plastic.
@@thurin84 but I'm right. They weren't used long and there weren't a lot made
@@Red14998 proof?
@@thurin84 After a quick google search, it looks like some later war stainless steel canteens with horizontal seams were soldered together using lead, but were not completely made of lead. A guy actually tested several WW2 canteens for lead in the water and found all of them to be safe. The article is actually kind of cool, you can find it at the website called “thesmileygi”
Article titled “Is it Safe to Drink From WWII Canteens?” Don’t want to put the URL as UA-cam will probably filter it out.
wtf are the "achtung powers?" lol
I blame hotzendorf for this mess
Leopard 2: How are you today, Great Grandpa?
A7V: Shut up Leo 2, my engine is jammed again!
It was heavy but lasted pretty quickly 😢
Looks like something out of Warhammer 40K
Keep up the great work!
One of my favourite fun facts is the name “tank” was a code name to throw off the enemies to thinking they where talking about water tanks
Very cool looking tank
Love the accurate history vids
imagine 18 germans all singing "this is my box! I am living in this box! this is my big box and you don't have my box!" while rolling in a giant toaster
I love the narrators voice. Very powerful, especially when he says 'machine gun'
I've been waiting for a long time for this video to appear, I mean you've already made a British mark series tank and not it's counter part.
