  • The Bo people are an extinct tribe from Yunnan and Sichuan provinces of Southwestern China. They became extinct after 1573 when they were massacred by the imperial troops of the Ming Dynasty. Their culture has been the subject of folklore and legend since then, they are best remembered for hanging the coffins of their dead on the sides of the cliffs where they lived. This sparked the legend that this ancient tribe possessed the power of flight.

Men were lowered from the top of the cliff to the crevices as were you the coffins or men in the crevices lowered ropes to the coffins and pull them which is shown in the video, they would do similar burials in Surawasi Indonesia.

Yes, that even how the USA Transcontinental Railroad was built in the 1960s. Small Chinese were put into large baskets and lowered down cliff faces with hammer 🛠 and chisel to pound holes into the rock face. Then explosives and long fuses were lowered to them, so they could set the explosives in the holes. The men were then lifted up to the top of the cliffs with unraveling the fuse rope. The fuse were lit and the loose rocks were removed and the process repeated.

I am interested in all East Asian people other than the Hans. I believe the Hans have usurpated other ethnical groups civilization where they were only subaltern farmers until their number grew so big that they put enormous demographical pressure on all other East Asian people essentially pushing them to extinction reducing their numbers until so few are left it no longer has a significant genetic footprint. The Hans are still doing this to this day with their erradication of the Tibetan people and replacing them with massive exodus of state sponsored Han families and businessmen to transform tibet into another Han satellite.
Watching old dinasties emperor portraits none of them look like Han chinese. Off course the Chings were Manchu not Hans, but even the Mings were not Han but some other group probably extinct now. In those old days the Hans were only farmers on the Yanghtzee Loess fertile banks.
Currently the focal point of the Hans is to claim that all of the history of China is their history but it clearly isn't. They were for most of it only a subjguated group ruled by more apt East asian groups now extinct. THus never accept the equivalence they are trying to impose that China = Hans. It's not, it's two different histories.
In fact it's been quite clear that Western china in the paleotonlogic age was not Asian but populated by Siberian white people red haired. This is something that the Hans fear want to hide.
Also You can notice how the Hans are not excavating actively in China because they know almost all of Chinese history was not related to the Hans and they don't want more proof of that.

I read about this unique practice of these hanging coffins many, many years ago, but does not remember the reasons behind this practice.
Without watching this post to the end, the most logical reason that comes to mind is that parts of China are prone to devastating annual flooding and, instead of burying their dead in the ground which would be inundated by annual floods, the Bo people put their dead high up on cliffs to keep them dry. Also, it's symbolic of being closer to the heavens and one more reason is that it would not be easy for tomb robbers to rob these coffins.

Some of the Bo People may have reached the Mountain Province, in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the northern Philippines and perhaps amalgamated with the mountain people called Igorots.
In 2017, I visited the Municipality of Sadanga, Mountain Province to document Indigenous Knowledge, Systems, and Practices and upon conversing with one of the elders one of the topics that we tackled is about artifacts. He mentioned that a "White" foreigner have 'purchased' a jar from a local resident that traces back to Ming China. Also, it is known that Chinese merchants introduced copper gongs to the mountain people, hence it is one of the native instruments of the Igorot peoples.

I was wondering about this while watching the video and saw your comment! One time i went to "Bahay de China" in Binondo and they have tons of artefacts and old Chinese potteries recovered from way way back! Also, i noticed some of the customs in the Cordilleras share some similarities with rural Chinese communities in terms of honoring ancestors and food preservation. I'm no expert but I've been observing these similarities for some time now and I'm really wondering if some of the tribes in China did migrate up our Philippine mountains from way back and are still practicing and handing down those traditions from what we see now. 🤔

When I was among the Uigars, I was told by one man that cheap property deals were offered to get the Han into the area to breed out the Uigars. It was Dec 2014 and already there were concentration camps. I don't know but I think there was always the intent to get rid of all the minorities. I also saw the "persecution" of Christians in small villages.

The Chachapoya in the high Andes also had sky-high coffins in precarious cliff locations. They didn't have the power of flight, either. Neither did the ancient cliff dwellers in the American Southwest or some tribespeople in the high Himalayas who also made their homes and tombs in 'inaccessible' locations.

What is peculiar is that dozens of coffins in the cliffs is very few, considering how long Bo people lived out there, there has to be a lot more coffins. Were the coffins deteriorating and falling down the cliff? Then it makes sense to look for older coffins and skeletons at the bottom of the cliff and in the river.

Odds are manned flight may have been done in China first...but not recorded or records did not survive....they had all the tools for manned flight as well as the money...and time....plus know how.

Go ask the tribes in Sagada, Philippines. And wow..they also built rice terraces. The Igorots also built rice terraces. Related perhaps???? Warring tribe??? Sounds like the Igorots to me...

@LalaShawante In Chinese culture, there is no such practice of putting their ancestors at the side of cliff. How are their descendants going to offer food and prayers if they hang the coffin up there. The ancient Chinese were very careful and fussy about the site of burial. They will always consult priest to locate the best site involving good "FengShiu" which is Geomancy. All these are to ensure their ancestors stay happy in the other world and will continue to bless their generations to come.

    Since its up for interpretation,
Unless every person in the tribe were to be buried in this way,
Through the idea that on the mountain was like halfway point to "heavan"
Certain sacrifices were given on the "halfway point", so everyone else buried /burned /whatvever the custom
on the ground would go onto afterlife with the "sacrifice"

Why anyone would think climbing is the best way is not very smart. Much easier to be lowered from the top. No one climbed up with those coffins. I am sure the coffins wore lowered from the top. I am sure if could see the hole of the mountain there is a side of it able to be climbed. Just because it's not shown does not mean it's not there.

There are many mysterious physical structures(e.g. Pyramids) that baffle Scientists as to how these structures were built without modern technology(e.g.crane). Within Indian and Tibetan spritual cultures the answer is simple these individuals possessed supernatural powers. Some Ancient Indian Yogis and Tibetan Monks have been known to perform superhuman activities such as walking on water and flying(without a technology).
