Podcast: • Rethinking the Belt Sy... - Спорт
I think it is important to maintain the distinctions between these techniques as they span several types of waza. O Guruma and Ashi Guruma are Ashi Waza, and the hip should not be engaged. O Guruma loads uke onto the leg whereas Ashi Guruma uses a sweeping motion lower on uke's leg. Harai Ogoshi is Koshi Waza and uke should be loaded on the hip prior to sweeping the leg. Tai Otoshi is Te Waza, and the leg is blocking uke's movement but the action of the arms (out and around) makes the throw.
I saw this done in a tournament only once. It was at a USJA National. Both guys were over 300 lbs. A 5th dan performed it flawlessly against a 2nd dan. The 2nd dan was one of my students. As I remmber it, tori put his leg up fairly high as he atttacked so that his ankle was past uke's hip and a little below. It was a sight to see!
That's interesting. Several years ago we had a guy in our class that was around 300 pounds and he could execute this throw flawlessly as well. It must be easier for big guys.
This the number one O Guruma video out there
Lol! O Guruma is such a technical throw that most of times if your leg doesn't go up enough you are demonstrating Ashi guruma! I'm guilty of that! 😂 Thanks for the video Sensei.
I would just like to say thankyou for the work you are doing
Thank you for giving us new throws and knowledge, you're the man.
Thanks sensei, the momentum looks hard to get but i'll give it a try
Are u serious u never heard of this??? It's my sensi Virgil Goodwine and MY favorite throw!!! I liked to do it to side kinda like osoto so his pelvis flys over your thigh
Now when I mess up Harai, I'm ready with an excuse.
We talk about O Guruma all the time at my club. Search O Guruma roll sambo.
thanks this technique is rare
I just figured out how to do this for nogi and mma. Been trying to figure it out ever since watching an old video of Kyuzo Mifune 6 months ago. It has officially replaced Uchimata as my favourite throw.
I've been working on ashi guruma recently, so it's nice to see you cover something ashi guruma adjacent.
I guess they both have wheel in the name
Liika like a good throw what belt do you need to do this or can you do this whenever you want
We're currently working on this throw this whole month!!
A rare miss sensei.
O Guruma is a fulcrum throw where uke is rotated around the Tori's blocking leg.
This was 10 dan sensei Kyuzo Mifune's signature technique. I personally like the opposite, Osoto guruma. It takes them of both feet in one move. Kodokan approved. 👍
Both awesome techniques and rarely seen! O Soto Guruma is great
Judoka in Nigeria here. My sensei(8th dan) always makes us drill this throw when anyone is prepping for grading. We run through pretty much and Osoto guruma. The Kodokan yotube channel have a video of the throw.
I love O Guruma
Nice. BIG WHEEL!!!
O guruma is a fun throw!
This was nice.
I get the joke but regarding "masterclass". Can you please make a series of advanced content and tag it approprietly? Most of judo content on yt are basics and it is difficult to navigate if you are a black belt. This video title did not help :D
I find this a difficult one to do, as I feel like I’m going off balance, before committing the right leg sweep!
O Guruma is roughly translated Major Wheel, great advance throw
This is not O guruma, this is regular ashi guruma
O guruma is close distance, when uke goes to something like a bear hug.
engagement for the algorythm? "I'm doing my part!"
O guruma 👍
O Guruma
Definitely ashi guruma.
islam in the UFC is a master of this throw, some say Tai-o some say O Guruma
Number 1
That was a quick master class.
just adding a comment coz u asked for it
I want to make this my special move
😅
yes but when and why?
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Nice !
O Guruma nation
Ima bjj specialists and these videos always help when I want to be more diverse with my takedowns thank you so much🙏
Is a specialist like a blue belt?

0 GURUMA
Nobody is going to search O guruma.
But they'll search judo and eventually find him
@@dominusmilans5478^
I have done so several times
@@ricardokerscher if you only knew
@CamerOneiric maybe big hip wheel will yield better results?
Hai
I searched for o garuma...
I have the old pictorial kodokan and thought it looked like ashi garuma. But noooooooo...
engage!
Bonsoir messieurs super enchaînement merci pour la vidéo bonne courage pour d'autres technique à bientôt
Thank you for this video Sensei! Very timely, and this is one of the throes I’m working on.
Effective throw! I have done it several times with a ko soto setup. 🥋
A comment for the algorithm gods
Isnt this kinda dangerous for the knee? You go one direction and then change it completely by rotating with one leg. If you do it too fast, you forget to jump and then you twist.
I've had ACL reconstruction surgery and never had an issue with the o/ashi guruma pivot during practice (as long as you don't plant both your heel and your toes you can even do the pivot without jumping) but I guess in live sparring/competition if the opponent does something unexpected as you pivot something bad could potentially happen.
Nice throw.
This is awesome!!❤❤
Awesome 😊
thank you
I love it but sadly I am better with O Guruma and Ashi Guruma done with a normal feet placement. Lucky for me the cross step is not a requeriment for exams here XD.
YAH
My teacher used to do that leg thing. But he did it O guruma harai ashi and tai o.
Yes this the correct order. Ashi guruma is foot wheel and should involve rotating them nearer their foot. It is like a tai otoshi but foot off the floor.
O guruma is major wheel hence the higher placement. It should involve less reaping than the harai does.
i gust love see your Jodo video's
Mo too

You forgot hiza guruma
I never understand why there are many names for every small technical nuance in Judo. It makes it more difficult to learn in my opinion. It confuses me sometimes. For example: while harai goshi is a koshi-waza and ashi guruma is an ashi-waza, how is it possible for tai otoshi to be a te-waza (hand technique)?
The leg block on tai-otoshi is completely optional. It's the hands that are throwing. As the other guy said, study the fundamentals.
@@ricardokerscher what I actually meant was that it is unnecessary. We could benefit more from a wrestling mindset when it comes to classifying techniques. Btw, I LOVE Judo, don't get me wrong.
@@izd9078 Except that separating them helps define them better. Just because you think they're all the same doesn't mean they are.
@@JD2jr. I understand your point. I do not want to dictate my opinion on people, it's just that I view grappling as a whole, regardless of sport. So, it makes more sense to people like me who want to keep it simple.
