We've had a very mild winter so far. Hot tub has been working great (the exact model you are showing). We just got hit with a snow storm. Now, I've been getting an FL1 error on and off over the years, and it's always very temporary. A few days ago, it's been happening more frequently. We just got hit with 0F degrees and it's going to be like that for a while now, and the FL1 is now staying on all the time.
This video was absolutely perfect. We are getting a 26F degree warm spell today (will be back in single digits most of week though). I was able to open the side, confirm the circulation pump was working. Confirm there is no air in the line. Then, took the switch off and confirmed that jumping the wires has corrected the issue.
Your video has made me confirm I have a bad flow switch. I am able to jumper the wires while the new part comes in... I just need to figure out how to replace it without draining in 0F degree weather. I may try it and just create a way to catch the water that drains. At least for now, the heater has kicked back on and the temp is raising back up.
Thank you so much for your video.

Back before you can respond. I took out the flow switch after looking closely through the clear plastic housing. There was crud on the core so paddle could not make contact. I cleaned it and replaced. Same problem. FLO 1. Then adopted your method of jumping the flow switch pins/connector off. Bingo! FLO 1 went and heat light came on. Conclusion: Burned out the flow switch trying to work perhaps. New FS going in for $30. Thanks again for your brilliant expertise on all this.

Thanks for the great instruction on this unit!!
Question: I recently diagnosed a bad recirc pump for a Jacuzzi J325 unit. I removed the pump and tested the flow switch. When I restored power to the unit, the FL1 error code came on. I removed the flow switch and manually tested it closing the switch and reading continuity. I noticed that the error code cleared, the heat light came back on, and immediately after that, the GFCI plug used on this unit, tripped. This happened after the 1/4' barb on the C3226-1A heater snapped off and water started leaking out of it. Is it possible that the heater electrical connection box could be shorted out? I appreciate your help.

First, thanks Scott for providing such a good video. I have a J355 2009 yr model and it is showing an OH, follow by three dashes. I replaced the filters, Temperature sensor, circulating pump, and low flow heater pump. Before the replacement of the parts mentioned above, the OH/dashes would show up when the tub reached 25.5 Celsius. After replacing the parts mention above, it reached 32.5, but the OH/dashes showed up again. The heater element showed 240 volts, the replacement is showing 230 volts. Could that caused the problem? I had to cut the wires on the new temperature switch because the connectors didn’t fit the circuit board connectors. I am grateful for any advice you can provide.
    Very Respectfully,
    Marco Ruiz

Hi Spa man from Chicago, IL, I have a 315J that I changed the recirc pump 6 mos ago and the FL1 went away but would come up when I turned on the breaker for the first time and then when I turned on the jet pump-but it was working fine, ozone was bubbling out, heater kept it warm-it was cold outside (warm in the tub) and I called it done. About 2 mos ago I figured that I would give it another go and I changed the flow switch, and the problem never went away. Today, the temp on the gauge says that the tub temp is 104 while the tub is actually 80-I am going to change the temp sensor, but would that temp sensor throw a FL1 fault? Do I have 2 issues-the temp AND FL1?

I have this tub, have the FL-1 code, and I did what you did, replaced the flow switch and heat sensor, the circulating pump seems to be working fine, strong flow. But there is a leak in the wet end of the main pump, and I have had no luck finding a gasket for it. I did replace the shaft seal that was leaking, but the gasket still leaks, but nothing compared to how much was leaking from the shaft. After seeing your video, watching as the pump was trying to push the air out all the while the flow switch was not engaged I started to wonder if the gasket leak is causing air to infiltrate the system constantly, especially while sitting idle, and so at start up I get the FL-1 error. But I have not observed this to be the case. Maybe I am in denial about the circulating pump being fine... There is another issue with the heater staying on even when the light is not illuminated. It will continue to heat well past the set temperature unless I turn off at breaker to reset the tub. Why would the heater be on when it shouldn't be, even when the indicator light shows otherwise?

Hi Scott, my comments below. I checked the flow and it cuts in and the circulation pump is working but no heat. All pumps are working. I replaced the heat sensor about 18 months ago. And the pumps were replaced about 3 years ago. It gets 4 days a week use and has been trouble free. It's a 2002 J 335 I believe, like the one in your video. I also replaced the flow switch a while ago and as I say it is working hence the circ pump is running. Just no heat. Could it be a burned out element in the heater? Or relay? Do you have any tips or a video. Many thanks again for a great service to DIY spa lovers.

Hello Spaman, Steve from San Diego here, I have a Jacuzzi premium from 2002 . It is new to me and it’s all set up I am thrilled to death when I turn the breaker on, everything works just fine! so it gets up to where I set it 100 degrees but it’s not until after I turn on the jets, dose the red dot turns off and a FL1 single starts to blink, and the heater turns off I noticed there was a jet that was not on so I tried to open it up, and it came out in my hand. I don’t know if that has something to do with it ? Any advice please let me know. thanks Steve thanks for the videos I’ve been very helpful!

I shorted it with a screwdriver but exact same behaviour, pump starts for 2-3 secs (almost the time it takes for the flow switch to connect, then stop. I really thought it was the flow switch and before ordering i tried to jumped it but it's the same behaviour, pump will do the exact same 3 seconds start and stop. Do you suggest to try with a new switch and sensor heat anyway? or go for a new pump? or cardboard? please note last year my cable melt in the cardboard. A technician just shortened them and reinstall them, they didn't melt so far but maybe the cardbord is dead? any idea? Thank you :)

Scott, I've watched several of your videos and am always waiting for you to perform the crtitical step after turning off the breaker/power. Sometimes, I think you are about to do it, and then you just dive in.
Scott, as experienced as you clearly are, I'm sure you have gotten zapped plenty of times, like myself. Experience teaches us old timers that the first thing you do when you shut off power to a circuit is to MAKE SURE THERE IS ACTUALLY NO POWER IN THE CIRCUIT. Never trust the cicuit breaker that you hope disengaged. Never trust anything or anybody with power to YOUR circuits. Check the circuit or assembly for power yourself.
Take a meter and put it across the incoming primary power. I know many of your listeners probably don't have a meter (DVM) but if you are going to assert that turning off the power is important, isnt it just as important to make sure the power IS off at the circuits you are servicing. Especially if you are working on someone else's tub. They may have wired it ...unconventionally, and you don't see it until it is too late. Maybe you will inspire someone to buy a $10.00 meter on Amazon and it will lead to them using it on everything from hot tubs to light switches and outlets. It may save their life.
I have been testing troubleshooting and repairing electromechanical equipment for over four decades and you sounds like you have similar expereince. We have both been zapped enough to know better. Lets help the rest of the folks out there be safe so they don't get discouraged by getting zapped when they could have avoided it.
Thanks again for all your videos. I am really enjoying them. We just bought a new spa so I have been browsing the web for as much information and I can learn.
Great content! Keep up the good work. From ...Scott, also in Arizona.

What if the number on the display panel is changing from 80 to 104 back and forth constantly when you plug in the hot tub and that's the only thing happens. No heating or pumps are working as it is stuck going back and forth between those numbers. I removed the display from the circuit board and plug in, and it was still doing the same thing.

Should I be getting this error on a brand new (> 2 Months) J-345 unit?
It heats just fine, and the pumps work.
Water level might not be ideal (but not too bad), and filters could use a wash, but also - not disgustingly dirty.
The FL-1 code doesn't come on all the time, but rather sporadically.

Scott, I have a Jacuzzi 335 with the FL1 error code. I have changed out the flow switch and am still getting the FL1 code. I have tried the shortcut where I took the wire off of the panel and use my screwdriver and the FL1 code went off. On the new switch isn’t the “lead” supposed to touch the stem to make the code go off? (sorry I don’t know how to explain it.) I can see there is water flowing through the switch. I’m just not sure that the water pressure is strong enough to make the lead touch a stem. Suggestions? Thanks

Could be several things that cause it not to heat. If the heater is 16 year old so is the board and that is a place to look if everything else checks out. I have the Flo error on our J365 tub. I just replaced both filters and have clean water in the tub. No heat because of the flo alarm from the troublleshooting info so far. I do have bubbles coming up from the recirc pump...so I think its working correctly. Can I change out the flow switch without draining the tub? I just refilled it....LOL> I will be going out to try your test by jumping across the leads of the flow switch to check that.

I don't like to change the flow switch with the water in the Tub unless...like you I don't want to drain and start over. So If the tubes on each side of flow switch are Pliable enough to squeeze together ? and your fast you might be able to do it. have a shop vac ready for water just in case ..water makes a mess...use a heat gun to help.
If you have a new flow switch just plug it in and use a straw to engage the switch... the heat light should come on within a couple sec if not ...I would replace Cir Pump , Heat sensor , Flow switch... very rarely is it the heater or the board.
Quite often the Cir pump is the problem....So if I have to go through the trouble to change one I alway change all three.
Hope this helps...Let me know Thanks For watching , Sharing and Subscribing.

Oh looked closer and it isn’t the type that is removable. The wires have copper tube like connectors. Do I just need to cut the connector off the new one and replace with the connector that was in the old flow switch? Also big no no (sinceI thought the whole thing was going to come out) I didn’t take a picture so I am not sure where red/ black goes. I don’t want to blow up my whole controller. Help!

I did the test for the flow switch because I had error code FL1. When I connected the prongs together with the screwdriver the red light turned on and seemed to be running fine BUT in a minute or less the pumps stopped and error code came on " - - -" I have a Jacuzzi J375 2010. Replaced both pumps already (not the circulation pump). Suggestions on how I can get the FL1 and the - - - to go away?" Currently emptying tub and looking at replacing the flow switch.

    Hi I’m getting a code 5n2

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  Рік тому

It is a Sn2 sensor code. Spa Error Codes: Sn, Sn2, Sn3, EO, E1, Prr
With these spa sensor codes, the Temperature Sensor is open or shorted. The temp sensor and the high limit are usually located on the heater housing, with 1-2 small wires coming off and connecting to your controller. With the system powered off, you normally unscrew the sensors from the heater manifold, and unplug the wire from the panel. Inspect the wires for any heat or rodent damage, and the sensor face for corrosion or scaling. However, the usual cause for spa temp sensor error codes is that the water flow is insufficient, and when water moves too slowly through the heater, it doesn't remove the heat fast enough, which triggers all sorts of error codes for flow rate and overheating. HOT, OL, HL, FLO, Sn... Hope this Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
