Pioneer TS-D12D2 in Bass Reflex Box - Impedance, Frequency and Bass Test

- Here's the second part of the Pioneer D Series car subwoofer in a wedge shaped bass reflex box with flared and flushed port tube. The initial subwoofer box tuning frequency was set and calculated using Bass Box Pro 6 software, which was 37Hz (33.64 @ -3dB). Then measured again the whole system for its final and actual tuning frequency and impedance using Dayton Audio DATS v3 which is now 32.97Hz. As you can see in the DATS impedance analyzer graph, there are two highest peaks that indicate the resonant frequency of the subwoofer driver matches the resonant frequency of the box. This is a good thing and this is the wanted best result of a well built and well designed car subwoofer box.
All other details and values are shown and demoed in the video. And of course, we played and tested some bass boosted tunes to finish the subwoofer bass testing off. We've used a Uni-T hand-held decibel meter to make it look more legit.

Regarding the sub speaker itself. Have you had experience with the pioneer w3003d4? How does it compare to the pioneer d12 subs?

Hello brother thanks for the feedback. Amp used was just a generic 1000w Class D mono amplifier.
Looks 👌🏻 I have the same speaker is this the 10" or 12" I have the 12" and someone I know built me a box which sounds great but it takes up virtually my whole boot! Reading up on the pioneer pages they recommend 1 cubic foot size box which I'm assuming is around the same size you have built! Looks and sounds 👌🏻 through my headphones! Would you recommend I have a smaller box built for better sound quality? Thanks for the video and have subscribed
Hello Dee, the Pioneer D series subwoofer do no require a lot of box volume. This one D12D2, 12" dual 2 Ohm subwoofer only requires 1.2-1.5 cubic feet of box volume to output its peak. I also calculated its efficiency using Bass Box Pro 6. So putting these subs in a way bigger box will only lose its efficiency.

@@zootopiashow Yes correct. Your amp must be more than twice the power your subwoofer can handle.
Low key a pioneer gma5702, class a/b 500 watts rms bridged at 4 ohms 1000 watts max power would probably be the perfect amp for the 10 inch one, wouldnt be bad for the 12 inch but thats an extra 100 watts you could be powering it.

No both sounds not good. If you have access to Sundown, Deaf Bonce, DD, Skar or perhaps American Bass subwoofers, get them instead.

The alpine type s has good nice deep thump with good punch. It sounds really good and hits pretty hard with the gain set to nominal on a alpine s series 600 watt amp. Sundown or the other brands might hit harder but the alpine sounds really clean.

Is v3 more accurate than v2 when doing an impedance sweep?
According to Dayton, the latest version v3 has improved a lot better than previous versions.

Hello Baciu, for me they are a bit expensive for its category. Here in the Philippines they cost about US$248 each where I can get a better sub having at more than 1000w RMS. But this certain Pioneer model outputs very accurate and great sounding bass in a well calculated box to operate within 700-1000w RMS.
