- I'm sure I'm not the only one whose 'for you' page has had a few different versions of this adjustable dress pop up.
I decided to make my own for some classic no-pattern sewing with repurposed materials. Some of my favorite things.

I love sewing videos and your voice is so soothing. Thank-you
Just found your channel through this video. The dress is lovely! I am thinking of making one myself.
PS: Your voice is very beautiful. You somehow sound like you are smiling happily most of the time. It's kind of contagious 😊
Welcome to the channel and thank you for you kind words! I hope you make a lovely version for yourself soon.
Looks great! Would definitely like to make something like this one day
I hope you get the chance to give it a try!
The darts are a big improvement. You look great in the dress and the dress looks great on you. And I love the bias tape you used. New subscriber 😊.
Thank you and welcome!
I hope it encourages others to give patterns like this a try. Sometimes when you only see something on one body type you don't know if it will work for you. All the makers I saw doing the project didn't have a very curvy shape, but it can definitely still be adapted for that with little changes like darts.
This is my first video of yours and I have to say you have the prettiest voice I’ve ever heard. Also, the dress came out so cute and comfy looking! Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏽💗🪡
Thank you so much and welcome to the channel!
I've given up on the idea that "commercially made" means strait edges.
I turned a jersey pillow case into a bag for keeping my hair off my shoulders while it dries. While trying to put a band around the top to gather the pillow case in to fit like a headband, I found the pillow case was sewn 5" off in something more like a rhombus.
After being grumpy about it for a few minutes I decided I was kind of impressed the sewist sent it through anyway, and it got through QC. Cuz honestly. It didn't cause me any issues as the pillow case if was meant to be.
"Higher quality" cotton sheets we happened to get sometimes when I was dissecting bedding regularly working for an up cycling business were better than some, but the wonkiness was still ever-present.
Love reusing existing hems though. So handy when you can make it work!
I love not having to hem things-- hence my disappointment when it's super wobbly once you get into it!
I have been planning a project like this but I keep coming up short on construction ideas, this was a perfect find! :)
Glad to be of help!
OK I clearly need to make a wrap dress something like this one. Thinking how it might look if I use a kirtle bodice pattern with wings to wrap around the body for the skirt panels to hang from instead of a waistband. Thanks for the inspiration!
There are definitely a ton of ways this technique could be adapted. Tag me so I can see what you come up with (if you post it, that is)!
@@OdessaDenby I will do that... it will be a winter project!
Had a rough day (both at work and things not working outside of work) and I do have to say that just watching this again was relaxing and helped bring my heart rate down and take some deep breaths.
I'm sorry you had a rough day and I hope things settle down for you soon. I'm glad I could help in some small way.
Absolutely! @@OdessaDenby I actually have had a nice evening turnaround.
@@feeshcapadesoh good!
This encourages me to do a similar project without a pattern - there *are* patterns for these kinds of dresses (historical at least), but they tend to not fit me anyway.
I like your voice. It would be easier to listen to you without any music, though.
There were so many great adjustable styles historically, I hope that it comes back into fashion. But you should definitely give it a try! You can make a lot by draping or using a simple body block.
The music helps fill the silences when I am not narrating. Otherwise I feel like it's awkward, haha. But thank you~
@@OdessaDenby I don't find the silences awkward at all. My hearing picks all the music just as well as your speech, which makes it harder to hear what you say - like you were recording in a rowdy bar. (There's a considerable group of people for whom this is a reality. It's a bit easier if I can see lips.)
I'm probably first doing an adjustable skirt. Same method as you have done, but not ruffled but bell style - that looks better on me. There a vintage pattern for that too, but I'm probably figuring it after just a picture.
Very fun nonsense regardless!
Thank you! I know you're a particularly keen supporter of my nonsense and that means a lot ❤️
