This is one heck of a longbow. awesome accuracy and quality and fast bamboo limbs. amazing comfortable riser/handle. absolutely no twist or torque when shooting. you can get it for under 90 on eBay and get set of extra limbs all for under 160. hate to say it but shoots as good if not better than any bear bows i had and few other much more expensive bows i have. a fast flight Flemish is a must and a well tuned nock point.
Any bow is only as good as the person holding it is! No matter a$5 or a $500 bow n gear! Been shooting trad bow since 1957 n still consider myself a student of archery! Thanks for sharing! ATB👍😎👍!
Any bow literary means all bows including crappy garbage bows. I really doubt that a $5 dollar bow is as good as a $500 bow just because the shooter is good.
Love this bow! I've got the Galaxy Ember version and have collected the different limbs over the last two years. Two recurve @ 45# and 55# and longbow limbs @55#. I shoot cedar arrows with it and it's really super quiet.
I too agree with you. This is a wonderful bow for the price. I also bought mine from Twig Archery and did pay a bit more, but it was a couple of years ago, and to me, it is still worth it. BTW, what I also did was buy the recurve limbs and basically have two bows with their distinctive qualities. But I guess I still slightly prefer the hybrid longbow limbs...they are just so smooth! Anyway, thanks for the video, and nice shooting there!
I got mine from Twig Archery too... :-) I have two sets of the longbow limbs 35# and 41#(45#)... I'm really interested to hear what you have to say about the recurve limbs. Tell me everything you can about them and where you got them.
i got the recurve version in 50# and buyed on ebay for 90$. a great bow for a small price. im happy with it. smooth draw , much speed und very silence!!!
I shoot all kinds of bows... my favorite is a Mongolian Horse Bow so far but ordered this bow at fifty pounds and will test it out and if I like it will take it turkey hunting. I shoot compound bows, recurve, I like Flu Flu archery shooting at moving targets like birds in flight... and also shoot crossbows and many rifles and shot guns... so will see how I like this... was not expensive for the bow so worth checking it out this hunting season... lost my left leg in 2018 and have a carbon fiber and titanium left leg and rehabed back to where I can string my bows easy with my legs finally... so decided for making that happen with the prosthetic leg will go hiking again and hunting again doing archery like I used to do a lot. Thanks for your video from 2019 and wish you the best. ... note the fields around you are like where I live... LOL! I love to hike them and get this prosthetic leg muddy... talking about gloss... my left carbon fiber leg I wax... so I wax one leg... LOL! It only cost twenty thousand dollars for the leg so waxing it was important... the bow... I could wax it if I wish I guess but I like being camouflage and will cover the glossy left leg this hunting season...I want to try it for Turkey hunting...I play my guitar and they think it is a Turkey call... not sure if that is good or bad guitar playing... LOL! Any way later and thank you...
Great review. I believe that it pays to do your research, so I spent days watching reviews and starter bow recommendations. I just bought the Obert version of this bow, on Amazon, for $119 and delivered to my door in 5 days. I’m just getting started in the hobby, so I selected the 30 lb. limbs, so that I can focus on my technique. Eventually I plan to get a 40 lb. set of replacement limbs. Anyway, I really enjoyed your review and watching you shoot this bow. Well done. P. S. this was the last one available on Amazon for shipping within the U.S. so the drawback you mentioned on delivery time is still accurate.
I bought my first Black Hunter from Twig Archery in Ohio. I paid a little more for it than $150 but that shop is wonderful to deal with and the owner John will get you the exact limb weight you are looking for. Currently I have 3 of them. 2 heavy 45's that pull 48# at 28 and 1 light 45 that pulls 43# @ 28". I simply can't stop shooting these bows. I even picked up a spare set of limbs for the light 45. They all tune well with either 1916, 2016 or 500 spine carbons.
I have two sets of limbs from Twig as well. I've also been to thier shop. I have 35# limbs and 41#(45#) for hunting. I'm shooting easten game getter 500s, with 100 grain tips, uncut. They are also a aluminum arrows.
I bought the same bow but from Lancaster they rebrand it as the galaxy ember. I was able to take my first trad deer with it this past season. I had a custom 66" longbow made and have found that I shoot better and enjoy shooting the galaxy much more. My custom is now collecting dust while I shoot a bow that was a quarter of the price.
I have the recurve 50 lb. Draw it loves a 8inch brace height period I put a set of string leeches total 2 on each end with a fur ball silencer and padded the string groves fast flight Flemish twist this bow is super fast and on the money no vibration or hand shock that's where the 8 in. Brace height comes in I shoot a 30 in. Carbon arrow feather Fletch 150 grn. Insert 125 grn. Two blade I love this bow its a steal for the money. The original strings to big and heavy the Flemish twist is the ticket no noise at all
This one is the F172 from Linyi Junxing Sports Equipment Co., Ltd. They have great service and my orders to europe have never lasted longer than 10 days!
This has nothing to do with patent laws, a company in China makes and designed this bow. There’s not any clones or knock-offs of it. They’re all the same bow, made in the same factory, made by the same people. The Chinese make some great stuff. Great video.
Really enjoyed your review young fella ;) Damn...you can shoot that thing!!!!! Those were some damn fine groupings for traditional shooting or any other type for that matter...totally impressed!!! Watched a few other reviews by some older guys (and I'm an old fart) and they try to be funny with some off color comments that kinda spoil it for me :/ You kept it real...thanks for that!!!
I have that bow with 55 pound and 45 pound limbs. I started with the 55's but after 2 weeks my left elbow was hurting a lot ( I shoot right handed) so I switched to the 45 pound limbs for 2 weeks until I got my strength up. After that I went back to the 55's. It's a pretty nice bow. I don't have any complaints. Archery season opens on October 3rd in my state. I'll be out there. Not sure if I'll be taking the Black Hunter or my Barnett Vengeance crossbow. I'm confident I can take a whitetail at 30 yards with either bow
I have a Black Hunter hybrid longbow with bambo limbs in a 40# draw weight. Having long arms, my draw length is about 29-1/2" and the limbs exhibit noticable stacking at full draw; not a deal breaker, but annoying considering how smooth the bow is @ 28" draw. I actually like the bow, but wish it was available with optional limbs designed to accomdate my extended draw length. Has anyone heard of optional, or even aftermarket, longer limbs that might be available? Thanks.
My nemesis the MP destroyer of fun lol you should attach a huge Maglite to the side of your quiver haha. Just playing man I'm Infantry, thanks for the great videos on these bows really good stuff.
The black Hunter is a little faster, the old mountain is a smoother drawing bow do to it's longer limbs. The black Hunter is heavier do to it's three piece design. I personally like the old mountain better but my wife and nephew prefer the black Hunter. Both are really good beginner to intermediate level bows that are very consistent shot after shot.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if you haven't adjusted or tinkered with the brace height, and found that it shoots wonderfully without having done that, how do you know this bow is critical with regards to brace height?
I had played with the brace height with another string I had made for the bow but the string was just a little to long so I made a second string just before the video sorry I didn't clarify that in the video. But good question 👍
Hi there, nice review. I hunt with modern compound but want to switch to traditional bow hunting. Can you please advise if this bow is suitable to hunt wild boar or I need to look for some more expensive ? Thank you.
The bow is very capable, but be sure to check your local and state laws for poundage, or arrow weight restrictions. With traditional archery the bows a pretty slow in comparison to modern compounds. Arrow weight is far more important than bow weight. If your looking at hunting pigs I would look at 45# to 55# limbs and try to keep arrow weight above 450-500grns with a cut on contact broadhead in the 135grn to 200grn to help keep your FOC(front of center) as high as possible. High FOC will aid in penetration. P.S. keep shots under 20yrds and you will have a blast hunting with traditional archery.
I want to get one of these (likely the recurve one) and I'm trying to decide between a 35lb and 45lb. I'm 5'-11' /205lbs with a ~27-28" draw. I really want to get into longer distance shooting of at least 30 to 50 yards, especially 50 where you really get into parabolic shooting. So that said, should I lean more towards 45lbs if I'm just going to get one right now? I keep feeling like a 35 might be too light and 40 just not enough if ever used for deer hunting at longer distances. Thoughts?
For hunting with a trad bow 40-50yards is not wise do to the low speeds I'm running around 160-180fps with most of my bows and most of my arrows weighing around 500-550grs with broadhead. The amount of drop at 40yrd is a lot to compensate for. Not knowing your skill level with trad bows I would recommend starting with a 30-35 pound bow and getting a second set of limbs at 45pounds practice with the 30-35's during the off season then when it gets closer to hunting season switch to the hunting weight limbs. Be sure to check your local hunting regulations to insure you meet any restrictions some states have a minimum draw weight restriction of 45# and others are less and in some countries there are minimum energy restrictions ( draw weight and arrow weight and arrow speed). Most trad archers try to keep hunting shots below 25yards FYI.
Hello there .. I like your video. I live in Ireland and I’m looking for sugestion please, what type of arrows are the best to use on this great bow (target shooting) I would like to order them, but don’t know where ..
Well it depends on your draw length and draw weight. Most manufacturers of arrows will have recommended spin stiffness for specific length arrows and draw weight. If you have a archery shop near you they can help a great deal. But if you want to DIY it then get a small chop saw that you can trim your arrows with and buy some cheaper carbon arrows or aluminum arrows/ shafts then just experiment with different length arrows tell they fly really good. But as a starting point the carbon Xpress 400 spin will get you up and running. It doesn't have to be carbon Xpress arrows I mentioned that to just give you a starting point. But any 400 spin shaft will do. But you will need feathered fletchings not plastic ones.
A good reputable place would be 3 Rivers Archery supply they have everything you need and online chat with pro staff to walk you through the things you'll need
So. I'm 6'1 and I used to be good with a reserve bow when I was 13 15 years old then not bad at 25 years old with an 80 lb compound bow. I want to get into target competition. what would be a good option to look at?
The crappy weather is part of Indiana that's why we are moving very soon. We had snow on the ground two weeks ago 😕. The black Hunter is a pretty good bow for the money. And there customer service is top notch.
I don't know if you'll comment back, I've been having trouble finding a cheaper quiver that attaches to a longbow for hunting, specifically for the black hunter longbow. Some guidance would surely help!
Yes 60lbs is way to heavy for your first bow. Check out twig archery in Ohio they are the only archery shop that I know of that actually carries the Black hunter in the shop.
Mine was cut to center, didn't have to do anything other than put a good quality string on it. I did find it doesn't like aluminum arrows but standard carbon or micro diameter carbon shafts shoot great
Big Rig Outdoors After shooting it outdoors at the range I found it lacked power, I knew it felt smooth and light on the draw and after borrowing a bow scale I find the limbs are incorrectly marked-25 instead of 35 lbs. contacted MD and new limbs on the way. Top marks for customer service.
My light 45 pulls 43 at 28 with my 26.5 in draw I have to close to 40. I shoot 1916's @ 28 inches with 175 grains up front and 5 inch helical feathers. They bare shaft perfectly for me.Twig archery sends the bows out with HD Velcro for a side plate and rest. It may be thicker than wat you are using. I run an 18 strand Flemish d97 string and 8 1/8 inch brace height. the arrow length and tip weight I figured out on my own. Everything else was recommended by John at Twig as he has spent a lot of time messing around with this bow. What struck me odd was the low brace height of 7 inches you mentioned in your video. Not sure if you played with that at all. Your bow sounds pretty quiet and your arrows appear to be grouping well. Just trying to be helpful. I'm not any sort of pro! I enjoyed your video...especially the camera shot of your back yard! Lucky you!.
My bow had a really low brace height in the video because I had just made a D97 string for it. I had been shooting this bow with a Dacron B50 Flemish twist string from another 60'' Longbow I have. I have found my Black Hunter shoots best right at 7 7/8'' to 8''. These bows are very good shooters when setup right.
@James B. At the time of this video I believe I was using a 7 3/8" brace but when I changed arrows for this bow last year I found 7 3/4" was the sweet spot
great bow obviously engineered for maximum efficiency/structural integrity/bang fo buck/ efficacy/ perfection end of story. .screw i.l.f. configurations screw the progenitors like the samick sage screw the aluminum bracers screw even the one piece labors of love. .the black hunter longbow and black hunter recurve is only surpassed by the reverse limb black hunter recurve, which is a matter of taste echo'ing the black widow style of bows from missouri or the idaho version of the design. .premium priced like five times the price. .haters go ahead and hate on this you've paid the price and enjoy the superiorities but at entry level these cnc machined diamondwood riser'd bamboo cored limbs from china are efficient means for flinging an arrow at respectable distances with little to hone in on but the practioner's skill and alot of money left over for the rest of the kit
con #4: not a toolless takedown (need an allen key for that, that you WILL lose) con #5: unconventional asymmetrical non-ILF-limb-compatible riser but I'm still ordering one; a 40 pounder shoud do me nicely ;-)
Longbow limbs are always a lot quieter than recurves. I've been a recurve shooter for two years but I decided to shift to longbow takedown like the one in this vid. Recurves pack an extra punch (with the final snap of the recruved tips) but noise and vibration negates the benefit for my liking anyway.
What kind of accessories is this drilled for out of the box? Im looking at getting my first take down bow and its between this bow and the samick sage and the southwest tigershark. Im probably ordering 50lb draw and ill be using it for hunting . If you have any suggestions I'm willing to listen.
The Black Hunter isn't drilled and tapped it's setup for more traditional strap on or limb bolt accessories. You can order the glue in adapters from Three Rivers Archery supply if you wanted to DIY it. If your hunting whitetail deer or smaller size game 40-45 pound draw is really all you need. Arrow weight and arrow FOC (front of center) weight is far more important than draw weight. I've killed 225+ pound KY whitetail with a 30# recurve with no problem. A good two blade broadhead on a 500 grain arrow (total weight) will get you a pass through on most deer with a well placed shot most of the time. Don't stress draw weight to much. This is a good bow to start out with not sure your draw length but the samick has a bad stacking problem over 28" draw not familiar with the other bow you mentioned. Hope I answered some of your questions. Feel free to contact me at bigrigbassfishing@gmail.com if you have any more questions.
@@matthewwagner4042 i actually went with the tigershark pro.. Its predrilled for accessories and suppose too be a better bow then the sage so ive been told by someone who has both.. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it sure looks pretty nice.
Then please check out 3 Rivers Archery, or Striker bows, or any other place that specializes in traditional archery. You will find a plethora of two and three pieces takedown longbows. Takedown longbows have been around for a very long time.
How good is $150 longbow? it's as good as the person shooting it, you can have a $600 $700 bow if you can't shoot worth a shyt then that expensive bow ain't going to do you any good, if you're a good shot the nice little average cheap bow like this you can hit anything with it
For those of us that use our bows for hunting flat black is better, because the high gloss would reflect the sun and spook game. But to each their own, all that is important is we love shooting traditional archery.
@@BigRigOutdoors Yeah, I understand that, just saying that they are different now😅, I'm now in Indiana as well and I would love to try trad bow hunting.
@@E-BikingAdventures not bad .. I'm getting the Samik Discovery 60' 60 lb carbon foam limbs .. I cannot wait lol , yeah I totally missed the part where he said how fast lol .. thanks !

Well I just took a look at your favorite bow, the Old Mountain Mesa Longbow and I’m pretty sure that’s going to be my second bow, instead. 🤠

But you will need feathered fletchings not plastic ones.
A good reputable place would be 3 Rivers Archery supply they have everything you need and online chat with pro staff to walk you through the things you'll need
Thank you so much for your advise .. You are the best .. keep up your good work
So. I'm 6'1 and I used to be good with a reserve bow when I was 13 15 years old then not bad at 25 years old with an 80 lb compound bow. I want to get into target competition. what would be a good option to look at?
Nice Bow, the price is incredible. I do not like shooting in such weather conditions, i feel very limited by the clothes...
This is your best option that will without a doubt work and last.

you should have gone for a 55-60 pound bow having short arms .....just an idea
Is there a speed difference with the recurvo model? thanks
Yes a recurve is faster by only a few fps, but longbows tend to be more forgiving and smoother to shoot
Big Rig Outdoors I got the same results in my testing as well! Exactly.. the longbow is much more forgiving on release.
I'm live close to the tri state lines and it was snowing out yesterday. Crazy weather ty 4 the review
How many lbs is it? The 60lbs is the only one available on amazon. Is that to heavy for my first bow?
Yes 60lbs is way to heavy for your first bow. Check out twig archery in Ohio they are the only archery shop that I know of that actually carries the Black hunter in the shop.
Which one is faster with the same lbs?
Black hunter long bow or black hunter recurve bow?
The recurve will be a little faster
Hi John, is this considered a traditional bow?
Yes it is. It's a three piece Takedown Longbow ( American Flatbow).
If you want a more traditional style 1 piece longbow/ American flatbow please take a look at my other video about the Old Mountain Mesa Longbow
I had to pack out the shelf to get it shooting straight as it’s cut well past centre but it is a nice bow to shoot..
What brace height are you using for 3 under?
@James B. At the time of this video I believe I was using a 7 3/8" brace but when I changed arrows for this bow last year I found 7 3/4" was the sweet spot
6 1/2" distance on hight would be good start
great bow obviously engineered for maximum efficiency/structural integrity/bang fo buck/ efficacy/ perfection end of story. .screw i.l.f. configurations screw the progenitors like the samick sage screw the aluminum bracers screw even the one piece labors of love. .the black hunter longbow and black hunter recurve is only surpassed by the reverse limb black hunter recurve, which is a matter of taste echo'ing the black widow style of bows from missouri or the idaho version of the design. .premium priced like five times the price. .haters go ahead and hate on this you've paid the price and enjoy the superiorities but at entry level these cnc machined diamondwood riser'd bamboo cored limbs from china are efficient means for flinging an arrow at respectable distances with little to hone in on but the practioner's skill and alot of money left over for the rest of the kit
hello eu sou do brazil ésse bow é duravel
Hey "John" ! Looks like I created a monster ! :)
They are all made by Junxing in china but are marketed by many China companies.
con #4: not a toolless takedown (need an allen key for that, that you WILL lose)
con #5: unconventional asymmetrical non-ILF-limb-compatible riser
but I'm still ordering one; a 40 pounder shoud do me nicely ;-)
Very quiet bow
I have a strap on bow quiver on mine. Big Jim's bow quiver(large size, 5 arrows)... one of the best values out there.
I'd go for this hands down over the sage... unless you have your heart set on bow fishing and want it tapped for that.
@@matthewwagner4042 i actually went with the tigershark pro.. Its predrilled for accessories and suppose too be a better bow then the sage so ive been told by someone who has both.. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it sure looks pretty nice.
@@matthewwagner4042 I love my big Jim quiver's but a little pricey, I use the old Thunder Horn quiver's for most of my bows
The picture is not a ,ong bow, its a modern recurve bow, a long bow is made in one piece, not knock down limbs and a riser which is what is shown.
Then please check out 3 Rivers Archery, or Striker bows, or any other place that specializes in traditional archery. You will find a plethora of two and three pieces takedown longbows.
Takedown longbows have been around for a very long time.
No a recurve the string lays on the limb and a longbow it doesn't. It's a reflex deflex longbow
POUND??
That bow is a 40# model I bought for my nephew
How was the vibration?
Vibration or hand shock is very little for a three peace bow you'll hardly notice.
@@BigRigOutdoors ok ty
Time for some pigeon fried rice! 🤪
How good is $150 longbow? it's as good as the person shooting it, you can have a $600 $700 bow if you can't shoot worth a shyt then that expensive bow ain't going to do you any good, if you're a good shot the nice little average cheap bow like this you can hit anything with it
blackhunters are great but they are not polished and glossy as they used to be when they first came out.
Como puedo conseguir una checha para casar que precio tiene
You totally forgot to say how fast it shot lol .. started talking about t your arrows and forgot
No he didn't. Right at 8:00. 159 fps at his draw length of 26.75". I've seen these do about 200 fps with a 40 lb and 350-400 grain arrows.
@@E-BikingAdventures not bad .. I'm getting the Samik Discovery 60' 60 lb carbon foam limbs .. I cannot wait lol , yeah I totally missed the part where he said how fast lol .. thanks !
They will do 200fps with those lighter arrows most of my hunting arrows run around the 475gr to 537gr.
@@BigRigOutdoors okso I have some 500 spine carbon arrows I'm gonna try with my 60' 55 lb samick discovery.. you think I need to go more like 400 ?
Man I love bowhunting but killing that pigeon just for the fun of it is kind of the thing of psychopaths. Not even joking.
It wasn't a pigeon. Looked like a little starling to me, which are a non-native nuisance species. More people should target them. Oh, and you clearly don't know what "psychopath" even means. You sound like a narcissistic person.
Pigeon is delicious with a little gravy
