If you ever run across this message a side by side grow with these two lamps with and without uv/ir would be awesome. I'm just trying to understand advantages/disadvantages or uv/ir lighting in a controlled grow area. By the way I did watch this video when I first bought my sp3000 two years ago. Great video! I was wondering why Mars didn't list that it has some UV and Infrared lights on this light as well. On their website in the description it used to say it had UV and IR diodes along with warm white, white and red. Now it says it only has warm white, white and red lights but I can clearly see a few UV diodes when you turned it on. It also looks like there are some Infrared diodes as well. Not sure why they don't advertise this light as having 5 kinds of diodes instead of just 3
My tent is a 4x3. How would you recommend this light in the space?? What heights??? Or should I get a different light for the odd space size???? Or will this light be fine in a 4x3???
great video.very informative.are you testing this light on 240v?i'm asking because the meanwell drivers don't produce their rated wattage on 120v.it's about 25% less wattage.thanks.
Tim Page, the light is not set to do anything.what the light does is determined by the driver, which in this case produces 258watts on 120 volts for the sp3000.one just has to know how to read the driver. in this case you are most definitely wrong.
I think you sold me on this light.if you were buying a new light and you had to choose between the sp3000 or fc e4800.i ll buy which everone gives off less heat.thx
I wonder if this light would be good as a greenhouse supplemental light? I'm loving the dimmer and the top bin diodes. Mars has itself a really serious light!
That is impressive at that high. 19" is allot higher compared to most recommended heights for other lights to get numbers like that. It seems to be their solution for not using a light bar array style. Basically you needed it to be that high in order for the footprint to be that even since that is more of a single source design not array. it's impressive for more of a single source fixture design to overcome that inherent downside. On a side note I have two sp2000wish I had the 3000s tho. I also havetwo tsl2000 or tsl3000 I forget but it's the 300 watt oven pan one but the rectangle not square and I just got a photonTek 600 to add to my new grow area. I've had the Mars ones for a year or so now I have a bunch of older shot to but those are what I'm mainly using atm. On another side note I wish you did the par map of that photontek in a 4x4 at 12" like the geekbeast test. I would like to see them apples and apples footprint wise
And these fixtures have onboard dimming which that expensive "Lack Dog" fixture does not... I can't stand Black Dog Led they are extremely overpriced and they are NOT very efficient so not only do they have a huge upfront cost they are not friendly on the light bill. I don't understand why people buy those fixtures... Shit you could've bought 3x HLG 550's for the price of the one black dog 600...
This is fantastic. I've loved all your work, thank you for the effort. Would you say 4 of these would cover a 3m x 1.5m tent or would you go for 2x FC E6500s or e8000s? Thank you so much
Thx for the helpful information I just ordered one and used the coupon code thx for the savings. I'm putting it in a 4x2x7 tent was wondering how many plants do you think I can max out in this space and what size pots and/or gallons to use was thinking that rectangle pots light work needed or some tall skinny 5 gallons pots possibly pls let me know thx

Thanks Jeff - I am planning to run that test on Tuesday - I can hardly wait. Going to play around with spacing and heights - I think two could really provide amazing coverage in a 4x4. I am planning to test in a 5x5 too, but that is probably too much space: big difference from 16-25 sq ft. Probably do great in 4x5, but just not a common shape for grow tents/spaces - I might run that test too ;)
I'm looking forward to your update. I read that the mars sp 3000 covers 2.5 x 5 so I'm curious what space or grow tent size it would effectively cover in flower or vegetation. Also would someone be better off using 2 for a 5x5 or 4x4 tent ,1 for a 2x4 tent or would that just be overkill?

Hi, Dr MJ Coco! great content, love the videos!! as I am having trouble finding a good light or deciding what is best for budget price fixtured, have a little money to work with and trying to spend it wisely this is for a basement grow and i have 2 areas not connected that are 3'x5'x9' i have 1 of the rooms with 6 plants under 2 viperspectra p2000's (height from canopy 18" and the other room i have 3 plants under a 600watt HPS hanging 24" longways without a hood. vegged for 5 weeks and room 1 is at day21 of flower and room 2 is at day 7 of flower, as i wanted to space out the timing a bit and allowed for the hps to catch up with the led side. Could this replace my rinky dink setup with 1 of these lights for each space? looking to clean the look up a bit. i have same genetics in both rooms and its going well. the rooms were built 3 years ago and i am completely re-modeling them this upcoming spring , there is so many lights on the market now as i bought my p2000's when they first were released(before any bar style) and lights now are all going to this bar style configuration which are mainly built for perfectly square rooms, 3x3, 4x4,5x5 and so on, what is a great light for my areas , any help would be appreciated, Thank you!
I actually recommend both those options. I tested 2x SP-3000 in a 5x5 and they did really rather well - although a bit under our target PPF for that space. Shane tested the Zeus 600w Pro and he recorded a slightly higher Usable PPF than I got from the 2x SP3000, but pretty close. I will be releasing the video with the 5x5 test within a week. When Lumatek launches their new brand in the US market, I may also test that fixture. But I was pretty impressed with Shane's test: ua-cam.com/video/EvL8K1Z2PYs/v-deo.html They get similar efficiency in 5x5 and both offer good options for distribution. The Mars is less expensive and may be more flexible with two fixtures, but the Lumatek has some really cool features.
If you have these results in a 4x2 wouldn't a 5x3 be more adequate for this light? Wonder what the edges will measure? Anyway thanks for the great review!
well, 5x3 is almost double the 4x2, so no - not that much. I tested it in a 5x2 and the performance was still very good but dropped a bit at the ends. I also tested two of them. 2 of them in a 5x5 is almost enough light because of the efficiency gains from running in an array. However, 1 in a 2.5x5 would be under lit. I am working on a follow up video with those tests and some thoughts about coverage.
How are you able to calculate yield without considering veg time? The bloom phase has a fairly standard range, but veg - no. Somebody help me understand this.
Hello Dr! pleas help me, I am building a flowering room (6X6 ft) and was thinking about using SP 3000, two of them. Will 2 lights be enough to cover the whole room? Thanks! big fan
Has anyone ever tested PPFD at different dimming options 75%/50% without changing the height? I would love to know what the Mars Hydro SP3000 would do at 12 inches of height and 50% output. PAR
Dr MJ Coco do you think one Sp 3000 would kill in a 2x4 tent? i was looking at the Growcraft from Chilled but that cost 729.00 vs. 399.00 . From the numbers on your test the Sp 3000 has similar par readings compared to the Growcraft X3. What light would you get if you had to rely on one light from seed to flower?
One SP3000 is about as much light as you can put in a 4x2 tent. Yeah, I think it will do amazing things with an excellent distribution of light. I am thinking pretty seriously about running this set-up myself.
hey doctor, Thank for the great vid ! I was wondering, for a 2x4 would you recommend the light or the migro aray 4 ? both seem to have the same efficiency looking at your tests, but isnt this light a bit overkill for a 2x4 ? shoutout toyou and shane for bringing us such great info
@@S3brandon neither of those sadly I've had other plans and just had to put that aside for now. But since Shane dropped the pro version now I think I might go for that, I live in the EU and the warranty is quite good so it's really a plus for me, but I think both light are good really
What do you think is better the Spider farmer sf 4000 or the mars hydro sp3000. It says on the website the mars Hydro SP3000 as a thumbs up but the spider farmer doesn’t. It doesn’t make much sense?? Do the math. If I had a 5x5 grow tent I would just need one sf 4000. Which cost 600 bucks and uses 450watts and I will need to Mars Hydro sp3000 That would cost 800 bucks and I would be pulling 600 watts from the wall. Spider farmer is cheaper and you use less watts
Yeah, I recommend the SP3000 over most other lights at this point. I don't dislike the SF series, they are great for what they are. The SF2000 that I tested is great for 6sq ft. and the SF4000 should be good for about 12sq ft. If you have that space I might recommend those fixtures, but they are not common spaces. The SP3000 can fit in 4x2 and really light it up better than other fixtures.
The 2.8 figure is what we call a "Calculated PPE" It is basically just the efficiency of the diodes. The actual total number of photons produced by a fixture (Total PPF) will be less than the calculated value (Calculated PPF). Furthermore, not all the photons that are produced arrive at the canopy. I am measuring the photons that arrive to the simulated canopy, a value we call the "Usable PPF". If you want to learn more I encourage you to read our Grow Light Guide. Start with our Grow Light Metric Primer: www.cocoforcannabis.com/grow-light-metrics-primer/ Grower Love

Hey whould be nice if you share you're rent hight and is ( 70 inch) enough (1,80m )
Which UV LEDS DOES THIS LIGHT HAVE? A, B, C?
Do you run this light at full intensity through all stages of growth or adjust it throughout?
Thanks for the effort and calculator bro💪
Price has dropped on these lights. This is what I plan to purchase. Thanks!
Amazing light!!! Thanks for the info!!
Thanks for watching!
My Grow Light Physics video (starring the SP3000s) will be out this week! :)

Id love to run 2 in one of my 4x4s
Hello, could you tell me in a 5x6 box with 3 lamps, how far away will you place them in semi, veg and flo stage? Thanks
What would you recommend for 5x5
Zeus 600w pro Vs 2x mars sp3000?
And why? Thanks
But I was pretty impressed with Shane's test: ua-cam.com/video/EvL8K1Z2PYs/v-deo.html
They get similar efficiency in 5x5 and both offer good options for distribution. The Mars is less expensive and may be more flexible with two fixtures, but the Lumatek has some really cool features.
Would 2 ts1000 be similar in that same grow space
If you have these results in a 4x2 wouldn't a 5x3 be more adequate for this light? Wonder what the edges will measure? Anyway thanks for the great review!
well, 5x3 is almost double the 4x2, so no - not that much. I tested it in a 5x2 and the performance was still very good but dropped a bit at the ends. I also tested two of them. 2 of them in a 5x5 is almost enough light because of the efficiency gains from running in an array. However, 1 in a 2.5x5 would be under lit. I am working on a follow up video with those tests and some thoughts about coverage.
@@DrMJCoco Thanks for the reply and I'm looking forward to the series about this light.
I'm currently waiting for my SP3000, but the courier company is dragging their ass. Cmon, DHL... I want to get my grow into the next gear
For 2x4 area sp 300 or Chiled Growcraft x3 330w?
How are you able to calculate yield without considering veg time? The bloom phase has a fairly standard range, but veg - no. Somebody help me understand this.
My Mars Hydro sp3000 is only 265 Watts right out of the box and Mars Hydro will not send a replacement
Don't think they will replace anyone's , That's some Bullshit ...smh ... Grow Light Science ....
With the added uv in this light, would you need eye protection every time you open the tent?
I'm about to grab one of these
Hello Dr! pleas help me, I am building a flowering room (6X6 ft) and was thinking about using SP 3000, two of them. Will 2 lights be enough to cover the whole room? Thanks! big fan
For 36 sq feet you would want at least 3. 3 are a little tough to arrange in a 6x6 space but I would do it as an open top triangle /_\

Thanks a lot hopefully good things to come.
I thought this light was to long for a 2x4 tent
hey doctor,
Thank for the great vid ! I was wondering, for a 2x4 would you recommend the light or the migro aray 4 ? both seem to have the same efficiency looking at your tests, but isnt this light a bit overkill for a 2x4 ?
shoutout toyou and shane for bringing us such great info
What one did you get?
Thank you for the advice
Would this work to grow 2 plants ? Or would 600 watt light be better
This will certainly work for 2 plants. I am growing two plants with one now :) You could grow more than two plants too ;)

Very professional video. Thanks Dr. MJ
Thank you! I am glad that you liked it. :)
You broke that down perfectly
Are you gonna do any par testing on the fgi square 2 and square 3?
Mars has the light advertised as 2.8 umol/j (joules) not watts, so was this a fair test?
The 2.8 figure is what we call a "Calculated PPE" It is basically just the efficiency of the diodes. The actual total number of photons produced by a fixture (Total PPF) will be less than the calculated value (Calculated PPF). Furthermore, not all the photons that are produced arrive at the canopy. I am measuring the photons that arrive to the simulated canopy, a value we call the "Usable PPF". If you want to learn more I encourage you to read our Grow Light Guide. Great video! I’d probably get me one of these lights to run in my Veg tent..
What you run for flower?
Just got one for $140 I’m excited for it to arrive
