How to Train Your Fish

Step 1: flash your light and immediately treat. Repeat for a meal or two.
Step 2: Teach your fish to touch a dot or your finger through the tank, mark the instant he makes contact, and quickly deliver a treat.
Step 3: Gradually increase difficulty. Vary the location of the dot or your finger in relation to the fish - left, right, up, down. Next, slowly add distance, until the fish actively looks for the dot / finger and can find it even in tricky locations.
Step 4: You are now ready to begin targeting with a wand! Stay tuned for the next video.

Erasmus has himself a new house yaaaaaay. I'll have to try the light training with my Angel Scooter, he loves attention and will often follow my finger anywhere I put it.
Will do, I have to work with him more because he isn't pellet trained yet :( he loves his Marineland flakes.

Should I remove the fish from my aquarium before I start to train it? I have a lot of fish in my aquarium. Should I remove my fish and Put it in a bowl to train it?
I wouldn’t, no. He would not be in a state suitable for learning. Choose the fish that’s most aggressive in the tank, it will be easiest for you.

wow insects okay i definitely underestimated animals! i'll definitely try to teach some tricks to my fish once we get them and they're used to the aquarium!

I think younger fish will be a bit easier but it should work at any age

I tried cutting corners by using my finger pressed up against the glass to show my dwarf puffer that it is getting fed lol now I try not to feed it until it comes up to the glass and observes my finger but I'm not sure that's what I want... I might just have to revert to your light method. Any recommendations on the light?

I named Erasmus after Charles Darwin’s grandfather. The original Erasmus is the patron saint of sailors- I like the connection there! I haven’t seen any Egyptian gods named that. Can you tell me more?
