A few places I thought you missed out. Biggest is, instead of building wheat farm, just build Hops farm, get +8 happiness from brewery and drop rations down to nil. This allows you to massively increase your population and maintain happiness at 100 without needing to do anything. I also built a walking maze for the enemy troops to walk through (4 towers for enemy to walk around not 3 and had fire throwers in each meaning i had circa 30 troops to use in army instead of defences and i used trebuchets to take out the first guy much quicker firing from behind the waterline on the right channel. Then lastly, i created a quick cavalry harrassment platoon. get 24 - 30 cavalry which is permanently replenished. send them around the back around the left (where enemy troop runs are lowest) and get them to harass the stone, iron and food supply. means fewer troops were bothering me on the front assault and they very quickly ran out of resources because i would always rebuild the cavalry that died and send them in. sure plenty die, but its much faster.
Hops are cheap, you can just buy them, same as wheat. You can do bread eco without natural wheat, and buildings cost only wood. What jefflenious said that its better to have cow and it can support 7 tanners for leather armour.
After the initial wave of enemies is survived and you get your crossbow towers going, I switched to mangonel. The one next to the sea peppers The Wazir into oblivion. If not that, I also set up a few fire ballista protected by shields to light up their bakeries and quarries. It's amazing how fast the enemy gold drops because they're not programmed to adapt. I did the same thing with using a trebuchet to soften up The Nazir before pushing out. The AI doesn't seem to recognize a collapsed tower still standing as needing replacement so if you hit it just right, it's a free path. I also noticed that if you don't enclose your keep, and maybe I'm wrong, but the enemy will just attempt to deploy their siege units within range of crossbowmen. It's pretty cheap if we're being honest. Only on my initial play through where I closed my wall did I have to really deal with catapults and it was 10x harder. Took 8 hours instead of 3.
when i play my opponent attacks with a lot of catapults but not the characters in the video. in addition, it sends 50-100 soldiers at a time, and the enemy puts a firecracker everywhere.
in this video you can see AI tries to build catapults, but player put his towers so far from his castle so it's archers reach to that builds and kill engineers before they come and build. and even if they are successful, catapults are under fire immediately.
I ran this mission on buying wood and selling crossbows. It seems the most profitable business, even more so than bakery. I enclosed my keep before the path to stone and iron so easier to defend so I kept buying wood and played my game with it. At the end I had around 68K gold. :D
The entire game can be beat without caring about population at all, using this method.. I am trying it out and all I do is just build three archeries and an armory... I build both barracks, marketplace and 5 gallows (for max cruelty to get two crossbows instead one) behind somewhere safe surrounded with moat so they don't get destroyed.. it's really easy to defend the smallest castle with crossbowmen and shields on two towers.. of course I expand later build more towers.. Pure crossbow economy with 3-4 population makes game much slower, but it's doable. Crossbows are S tier.. only weapons worth making too.
Very good game, it hurts that the glitch that never fixed one could pass the whole game in a few hours, even the 2 bells could spend the same day including those missions that take 3 hours but very entertaining
I can't seem to hold my towers with all the archers. The enemy attacks them with catapults from a distance that I can't hit them, and I can't get enough stone fast enough to repair my towers.
Do not enclose your keep. As long as you don't fully close up your walls, the AI will just keep moving the catapults forward for some reason and placing their trebuches within range of crossbows. The same thing applies to their infantry. Instead of attacking your walls they will just keep advancing towards your Lords until they get killed. The way I did it is I placed 2 towers, left a gap in the wall, put a ballista on each tower and filled the towers with crossbowmen and shields.
you used shields very efficiently .. i won that battle twice with out shields stone and iron..my def was a 3 grand tours and a 45 crossbow and 3 arrow machines and on the narrow route was 2 grand towers with 50 cross bow and 2 arrow machine ..and a moat infront of all my def pretty much every one did the moat strategy and selling crossbow and tax to win XD
basically just widdle down their Gold little by little Caliph and Nazir are the ones who would do so easily Wolf/Omar/Richard are the hardest as they actually stayed in the 20k range but that all changes once you eliminate the 2 weak ones down in the bottom part of the map
@@SB-qm5wg Yes, it fixes major bugs, some unit balancing (arabian swordsmen take a few more crossbow shots for example) and much more. AI attacks are more powerful, Frederick and Marshall finally buy weapons, you can choose your color and more. It does work for the Steam Version, you should just read through the patch notes before installing, since you can choose on your own what you want to have fixed or installed. I'll leave you the github link here, just read through it (should be german and english) and tell me if it worked for you.
Yeah its here: github.com/Sh0wdown/UnofficialCrusaderPatch/releases . Yes the Arabian AIs are better in it because Arabian swordsmen don't die so quickly to crossbow bolts, and spearmen aren't quite so useless any more either, they can take a few more arrows! Best not to turn up the recruitment speed or the size increase of attacks over time too high in the settings as the AIs can run out of gold too quickly though!
@@remide2776 Indeed! Nizar, Pig, Emir and Wazir don't use their big towers effectively in their vanilla castles so I gave them more ballistas and mangonels on them!
Sick performance and nerves playing the game on such a slow speed for so long! Just hour and a half in the vid and I have some questions regarding the overall strategy - wouldn't it be way more efficient to have several fire throwers on the towers and not just two? Having more would've prevented the ninja from causing so much damage and needing additional water/walls/gatehouse etc. Wouldn't it be more efficient to have ballista constantly attacking a single small area making a fire so all the melee units burn or have the fire throwers do that instead of waiting for the enemy soldiers to come? It seems like the area between the two front towers is too wide which isn't efficient for range units given how the hitting detection works. Also generally the three towers weren't full of archers/crossbowmen for some reason altho at moments you had the gold/materials to hire more?
some good things but some mistakes in the starting, could have sold some bakery items or stone to buy some more archers or melee units prevent assassins going through.
If someone wants, I can give a link to the passage of the 50th mission without a market, mercenaries, shields ... Also there will be 80 mission soon ;)
I can beat this in less than one hour after practicing. It's much easier for me if i rush nizar with 10 shields protecting 25 macemen and build a moat out as far from the keep as possible, using ballistas with shields and only a few crossbowmen and archer to help defend. Also if you delete stock pile and move it right next to grass using ale instead of food you will have bigger population to sustain. Can use cathedral, church and few statues eventually for +4 taxes after a large economy from making lots of crossbow shops and water pots as extra labor to pay taxes.
@@henrry889 you dont need shield. I think you lose some potential gold there from nizar. I was able to rush nizar, then make enough to kill caliph with the gold i got earlier. Much faster this way. Also its better to use dairy farm instead on that small green land. One dairy farm is enough to sustain 8 tanners workshop.
Only because he could use the side entrance. Even Wazir, Caliph and Emir's combined army which they were gathering at 1:30:00 once they attacked couldn't do much to the front of the castle, although Lionheart got through a few times.
Damn this game is a masterpiece.
I play again in covid and i finish all the mission with in month
It took me hundreds of years almost one thousand

I thought that missiles were not invented yet! Those appear to be conventional warheads to me!
i like how you try to use a different stategy in every map. it makes the game more fun
we want more stronghold multi player please

Dont know how, but at the same minute I've been raided by a much much bigger armies ...
I did this one in 2-3 hours without using iron or stone :D. Finished easily using a tax based economy
I did using apple farms-bag-based economy)
my eyes r hurting, watching you play

You need to put balistae or catapults on your towers then :). They should be able to outrange them and if not the game sucks then lol :D.

Why don't you use the inofficial Crusader Patch with advanced options/new castles and a more clever AI?
