Everyone asking what this place is. Its not food production. If you read the writing on the wall (literally) at the end, it says "Monforts Montex." This machine is a stenter used in textile manufacturing on woven and knitted fabrics. Search for stenter on Google to see what this machine does and what the sludge residue is likely from.
From a quick Google it can be fabric softener, tanic acid, sodium hydroxide (not sure if its 1 or 2 possible treatments) alkali, or alkali and die. As this appears to be outlets, it probably also contains eather lint or the result of liqufying part of the fabric with a matching treatment. Might also be a mix of safe to use in the same machine treatments.
I used to work in a Factory where we made Big "Roll-pins" for lack of a better word, that were used as Underground-mining Roof-support. Basically 120mm by 2mm flat steel went through a Set of Wet-rollers and was Formed into a 90cm to 3meter Pin that was Punched and cut to size. When the Steel went through the Rollers, all the "Mill-scale" would Fall off and become a Greasy Sludge that stuck to everything. It has a Extremely poorly designed lubrication system that meant that (although it had a Basic Sump that some of the Sludge collected in) a large amount of the Millscale that didn't Separate out of the Coolant was Deposited back into the Coolant pipes on the way too (50mm Feed-pipe blocked to less than 10mm regularly) and above the Rollers (20 Flexible-pipes with 4mm nozzles). This meant that at least 1/3 if the 8hr shift was spent walking backwards and forwards banging/adjusting/clearing said pipes, rather than doing other Needed tasks. Unfortunately the whole System was designed by Morons who couldn't see the Flaws built into it. ie: the Sumps were largely ineffective due to not containing enough Baffles to Slow/Separate the Sludge before it was Pumped into the System again. Also the Coolant-pipes had NO/ZERO access points other than the Entery and Exit points, allowing it to be Flushed. Every time I watch stuff like this, I am reminded that We would loose an Average of 2hrs a day ($500 worth of production) trying to clear it, when we could have blasted out the lines like this once a week in 30mins and saved the Company $3000......but the Bosses wouldn't listen, can't have the Operators telling them How a Machine "Actually works".....lol. We did have a Pressure cleaner to do said job but it unfortunately Wasn't equipped with the Required attachments. Seems like the Boss was happy to spend $5000 on a Machine that was "Overkill" to wash the External of the Roll-former but Didn't see the Need for Pipe-cleaner. Note: a $100 machine with a $50 attachment (which I'd sold in a previous Career but my Advice wasn't headed) could have done Both tasks sufficiently, even if it had to be Replaced once per year. $3000 × 52 weeks in labour plus Big-cleaner=$160k. My method is $125 x 52 weeks in labour plus Small-cleaner=$6.7k. Seems they weren't good a Math either.
This is a modern problem that causes a lot of unnecessary trouble in almost every place where something is produced. People without any knowledge tell people on the workfloor how they have to do their job. There has been a time when you couldn't get a managing position without the practical skills needed for the work that you are meant to manage.

I love your videos they reminded me of when I was supervising contract cleaning lines in factories. The interesting places you take us and the mess you have to work with. It looks like you were clearing the slip lines in a potter. Next time you may find it easier to use a DC and push the build-up first into the opening into the pipe first.
I would have pulled out the double barrel just to impress the guys. You know, to show them that yours is the biggest. But I’m competitive that way.. lol. At least you can say you had the strongest stream!

I would have guessed lanolin from the wool place. Great minds thinking DA did such a good job on the toilets ... he could work his magic on the waxy byproduct tube thingy. 👍👍♥️🐑
Here in Italy (mainly in the city of Prato, famous for its textile products) machines of that type are used to apply a layer of rubber or other to the fabrics. The process is called coating. Or to couple fabrics, in that case it is called lamination. The slime you see in the pipes are most likely silicone or rubber based products.

A mess? 25+ years in Steel Mills, and a Chemical Plant associated with Steel Mills, I thought the place was in great shape. Mind you, in American Facilities, no sane person would permit video recording, OSHA can fine on Video Evidence 6 on video less than 6 months old. What does this facility produce.

A mess isn't going to be saved by not videoing, OSHA inspectors can show up and demand an inspection anytime. If there is a mess, you're in trouble, you can't tell them to come back tomorrow. One of their favorite rules are things like only 'temporary' use of extension cords. Generally the rule is set to allow usage for things less than 90 days and only for maintenance, lighting, remodeling, etc. However, if you have a piece of equipment, that is not being used for one of those things, but is instead a regular piece of equipment, cannot use an extension cord. Things like jump start packs, we had several that just put a regular plug on the case, and in order to charge the jump pack, you had to plug an extension cord into the device. It basically saved you from losing the charging lead, as any extension cord would work. However, charging these is not covered under the acceptable use for extension cords, and as such is prohibited. Same thing for things like battery chargers on workbenches/carts. You could not run an extension cord to the bench/cart even if it is just moving up or down a wall. Just dumb things.
I did a job in an ethanol plant replacing an auger screw that had come out in two 30ft(10m) pieces. Imagine swimming in a vat of whiskey puke was how it smelled. They have crews wearing full hazmat suits to clean out the fermenters cause it cements after a while.
Almost all factories look ditry its's normal. I think this was not bad. Some parts of the factory always get messy and they do A big clean once a month when it's maintenance day.
The factory contains Montfort textile finishing machinery. The run off pipe contains a sludge produced by the cleaning process (contains Lanolin wool oil); before relaxing, before dying. The input would usually be a twenty foot wide, 300 yard long spool of cloth, in this case wool.
Water-Wax slurry is pretty neutral stuff. You could even eat a little and it won’t hurt you. Too bad that Ratty didn’t help. He could’ve been waterproofed for your next drain jetting adventure. 🐭

Over here in the US anything over 6 ft elevation from the ground has requirement of being 100% tied off to the man lift with full body harness and lanyard.
US Army Corp of Engineers, any "structure" exceeding 6' in height must be firmly anchored. Any ladder of 6' must be tied off at the top before using said ladder and must have additional person holding the bottom. think about the process of tieing off the ladder before using it. Yeah I've worked around those bureaucratic buffoons.

It seems the hose gets cleaned either after every use or after every night. Every time he brings it out it doesn’t have anything on it nor does it seem wise to have shit on things cause then it spreads. The floor, the handles of his car doors, the doors, the equipment. Beside the equipment does need to be maintained so it’s all in working order.
Question.. why would you clear away from the direction that the waste is going? Surely clearing the outlet to the inspection cap, then towards the machine would be better?
Exactly. I hope this factory does not make anything intended for human consumption with these pipes and vats. I also find it odd that any factory that moves slurries in pipes don't have it's own jetting equipment in-house, clogs must be a fairly common occurrence
Sorry I searched a lot of comments but what is this place? What is the slurry being cleared? I see lots of chemical containers in a non climate controled warehouse so I doubt it's any kind of product for human consumption. Looks like a chemical plant maybe paint or some other industrial liquid manufacture?
It was some sort of chemical factory that involves color. Wasn't a food plant since the door is wide open. Would be interesting to know what that stuff was. Ollie didn't like it much though. And no corn :(

I never know where your videos will take me on any given day. What I do know is that there will be shiquid and copious amounts of corn.
Acid lines.. we do same stuff.. acids make salts... the two places we do are pickling lines in a steel mill and malic acid used I making candy sour

Food grade pipes using a non-food jetter. I'm sure they'll clean it out, not a problem.

It seems the hose gets cleaned either after every use or after every night. Every time he brings it out it doesn’t have anything on it nor does it seem wise to have shit on things cause then it spreads. The floor, the handles of his car doors, the doors, the equipment.
Beside the equipment does need to be maintained so it’s all in working order.

What ever is in the pipes must be nasty because I cant recall seeing you wipe down your hose even after going 100 ft through sewage.
It looks like the foam you see used to seal inside walls. It dries and becomes rock hard.

Question.. why would you clear away from the direction that the waste is going? Surely clearing the outlet to the inspection cap, then towards the machine would be better?

Exactly. I hope this factory does not make anything intended for human consumption with these pipes and vats. I also find it odd that any factory that moves slurries in pipes don't have it's own jetting equipment in-house, clogs must be a fairly common occurrence
Did you have to do a Contractors Safety Induction before starting work in the factory?

Sorry I searched a lot of comments but what is this place? What is the slurry being cleared? I see lots of chemical containers in a non climate controled warehouse so I doubt it's any kind of product for human consumption. Looks like a chemical plant maybe paint or some other industrial liquid manufacture?

It was some sort of chemical factory that involves color. Wasn't a food plant since the door is wide open. Would be interesting to know what that stuff was. Ollie didn't like it much though. And no corn :(
