Se rodó para conseguir un especial look en alto contraste, como un test de Rorschach, y cada uno de sus fotogramas fue refotogradiado hasta conseguir una ausencia total de semitonos . Merhige declaró que por cada minuto de la película se tardó más de 10 horas de postproducción para conseguir dicha apariencia.

For those who don't know what's happening: "... It depicts the first violent formation of matter from nothingness. Then, after a hyper-accelerated trip through the evolution of life and the earth, the film culminates in the birth of a embryonic pseudo-humanoid... It deals with the concept of evolution and the birth of consciousness."
@Minato Namikaze The only thing I could find was a book written by Brian Evenson in 1997 with the same name... May have been a source of inspiration, but I am not sure.

Oh I remember watching it in the kitchen on my phone and there was my mom who never gave a sht about art movies and stuff. And suddenly she asked me to show this to her. And I showed it. She just went numb for a minute and then she said it was so beautiful and asked me to tell her what was it about. I smiled and told her that I've got something even greater. And I showed her my favorite film ever - Begotten. We both love mr. Merhige now.

I remember seeing The Begotten when it opened at the Angelika Theater in New York. It was an amazing film for its time. But it was disturbing to watch people rise from their seats and walk out barely 15 minutes into the film. I didn't understand that, and still don't. If it was because of the representation of god, etc., I have to ask, then why go a see it anyway? But it was a film I was glad to not have missed. I never thought I would ever see it again back then. But then, the internet was nothing for your average person, and such ideas of UA-cam, Google, etc., were not even possible let alone hoped for.
However, I wouldn't trade having seen it's opening for the ease of watching it on UA-cam or a computer any day. In an era where “content” (oh how I've come to hate that word), is so readily available and to the point of rendering it all invaluable, it's a wonder we take anything seriously anymore.

No pues guau, no le entendí ni madres, mucho menos sentí nada, veo sus comentarios de que a unos les provoca algo, a otros les gusta.. creo que quizo hacer otro begotten que por cierto tampoco me provoco nada solo sigo escuchando esos grillos. No digo que sean malas las películas pero creo que exageran al decir que son perturbadoras, mucha gente a visto cosas peores en su vida diaria.
Permiteme decirte que Begotten si es sumamente perturbadora, un dios suicida al cual la madre naturaleza le extrae el semen para dar a luz al hijo de la tierra, el tan solo imaginarme que así hubiera sido la creación del hombre, me hace sentir raro, y por supuesto, como vas a comparar películas con la vida real, obviamente existen cosas mas perturbadoras en este mundo
