Awesome to see Bruce adapting so well! I really appreciate the voice over explaining why you are making some changes. (And Bruce backing up to exit his hide so he could eat was so cute!)
Taking inspiration from this enclosure for my blue tongue skink, Dobby! What a beautiful setup, love this! Also I've already got one of those calcium dishes and they're great!
As a new-timer who’s looking to get their first leopard gecko, what type of substrate would you recommend? I’ve seen both a carpet from Geckopia and I’ve heard multiple people say to get one from Dig-it, but I’m not sure what would be best. I would typically like to start with a young gecko rather than getting one that’s older.
She normally recommends EarthMix-Arid by Arcadia if you live in the UK. If you're in the US, I'd recommend the Bio Dude's Terra Sahara. If you're somewhere else, I don't know but I've heard there are videos out there that'll show you how to mix up top soil, biodegradables, sand, etc. Just make sure it's baked to kill parasites and stuff.
Has Bruce used the calcium bowl since you put it in? It’s weird that I’ve been watching your channel for years and loong before you got a skink I was also thinking “Do blue tongues also need a calcium bowl??” Lol. I might try it but knowing mine they will make a horrible mess. Speaking of, do you clean up after him during shedding? Does he explode in a million pieces or shed large chunks? Does the clean up crew take care of it?
I have seen him go up to it now and again but he's quite secretive at times so it's hard to know if he uses it, but i figured I rarely see my leos use theirs but I keep it topped up anyway haha. Clean up crew ends up taking care of the skin, but yeah its so different compared to how geckos shed :)
This has nothing to do with this video but I have a question for you For a crested gecko would you recommend an Arcadia 2.5% UVB or one of the others by Arcadia ? I'm going to be upgrading my crested geckos(her name is Sal) tank in the very near future to a 24x18x36 enclosure and want to add a uvb light for her but am not sure which one to get her, her main Diet will be stickyfoot gold by Arcadia , she's currently mainly on Pangea but will be switching her to more stickyfoot gold once I add the uvb light and do Pangea less often ( we’re finally getting more of the Arcadia products in the u.s.a yay!! ) Thanks in advance!!
