I backup my iPhone to my Mac, so in the past I've plugged my new iPhone into the Mac and let it setup from that backup instead of using iCloud. I've also used the iPhone to iPhone cable connection method as well. Both are very much faster than using local Wi-fi and restore from iCloud.
You really can use a cable to directly connect 2 iphones together, right? Its so weird; I see apple's official support article on it, but virtually nobody talks about it online... I guess just nobody knows or cares? Everyone uses icloud?? I'm going to try the cable tonight I think....!!!
Got the new iPhone 16 pro max and it was a hassle it would not let me migrate for two days. It wouldn’t restore from iCloud. I kept getting error messages. Finally today It went through I never had that problem before. All iOS was up to date was on WiFi battery was good to go everything. Just glad it finally migrated without an error message.
How much time will it take to restore my data .. that is the process that you talked about at the end of the video , like downloading the apps and downloading the photos from icloud , everything .. how much time will it take and what should i do in that period of time ? Anything required to be done by my side ?
I am still a little fuzzy one switching my E-sim card going from a 14 PM to a 16 PM i am in Canada so do i have to put my old card in the new phone physically or is it done via E-sim ? thx for your video i will be using it when my phone arrives and do i just throw my E-si, card in the trash ? cheers from Vulcan Canada
thank you so much for this video. am expecting my new iphone 16 pro to be delivered in less than 24 hrs. I have a question - am upgrading from a 11 pro. i have been unable to download the IOS 18 because it says i don't have any storage. I have followed your process of storing in icloud for 3 weeks. I wanted to ask, can i delete all my pictures and videos now to ensure my 11 pro is up to date software wish before doign the transfer? as i have seen in quite few places saying its crucial both iphones have up to date software? Thank you
Sounds like you did a direct migration? You could cancel it. The new phone will go through a reset progress and you will have to start again. The. You could do a full iCloud backup and go that route. Or use a Mac or PC to backup and restore the new iPhone from that.
Thanks for this! I've done it a bazillion times but it's always nice to review the process while waiting for my new iPhone to arrive. I especially appreciated the advice to restore from iCloud--which would not have been my instinctive choice--because I needed to get up an running in short order so I would have a functioning iPhone when leaving for an appointment.
The orb transfer isn’t working. The circle was quick to turn green during your process. But mine is stuck at this point and won’t turn green. Please let me know if there’s anything else I’m supposed to do. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks, nice video. I was wondering about the cell number transfer. This confirms I don’t have to go to the Apple Store or carrier to do it. The Apple Watch feature is cool! Thanks again!
Went from a iPhone 11 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro said it would take nine hours but it actually only took 4 1/2 hours worked beautifully , Sunday afternoon. I just let it sit. 😮😊
I discovered that some of my purchased (money paid, not free) apps could not restore at my new iPhone after using the icloud backup restore. I wonder if direct-WiFi option would have been a better option. It’s too late now since I don’t want to re-setup my entire iPhone again.
No matter which way you do the migration, all apps will download from the App Store. I’m wondering if some of the apps you’re referring to were downloaded with a different Apple ID than the one you used to set up a new phone?
For some reason when trying the direct phone to phone transfer, it is only using 4G and not my home WiFi connection so it was saying 5 hours to transfer. I have cancelled it now and plan to do your way with iCloud. One question though, my iCloud backup is only saying 45gb and there is way more than this on my phone when you check storage. Will iCloud transfer everything?
When you do Wi-Fi transfer, it does not use your home Wi-Fi network. It creates its own Wi-Fi network directly from phone to phone. As far as the number is not matching up, a lot of it will have to do with iCloud store data for example iCloud, photos and messages take up a lot of space, but it doesn’t migrate those. The new phone will download them.
Hi Jerry, does transferring from phone A to phone B transfer the chat history from the apps? Such as WhatsApp. And do we switch SIM card before the transfer or after? Thanks.
So I have a question, I am a member of a family plan will I need to alert my provider or a member in my plan that I am getting a new iphone, or will I still be a part of that plan when I transfer.
for some reason the photo scan does not work on my old phone (12 pro) I have a cracked screen that does not allow me the ability to type to enter it manually. and no matter how much i reposition i cant get it to scan the orb
Curios, have you tried the wired migration. Direct cable connection between phones. I am reading that it is the absolute fastest. Going to try it when my iPhone 16 Pro arrives, later today?
I have a question. When you watch a UA-cam video. Primarily something like marqez who does a wider aspect ratio on his UA-cam video, is the pill still cutting into that like it did with iPhone 15 pro?
is backing up with icloud faster than(if yes by how fast) than with no icloud storage i.e the second option you showed in the video? Or is it the same?
Terrific video. Here are my suggestions to all of this. 1) I ONLY back up to my Mac, the only thing I do with iCloud is Contacts. When you back up to iCloud, you do lose control of your data to a certain extent. Is it encrypted? Can others access it? When the data is on your Mac, it's more secure in my opinion. 2) NEVER use facial recognition to unlock your iPhone, use a pass code ONLY. The police, courts, customs, TSA, OR CRIMINALS can unlock your phone with facial recognition. ONLY a pass code gives you legal protection, and is the best security.
there is a 3rd option as well, you can back up and restore with itunes. this is a complete clone of your old phone to the new phone. it's really fast and better than icloud
for some reason every time i tried migrating it it says “Unable to Complete Data Transfer” and I tried the icloud backup method and it doesn’t seem to work either. I’ve never had this problem what should I do?
Nah this is dumb, when I get to 9:20 and click continue. Once I get to the update it says “cannot restore backup” now I’m stuck and idk what to do cuz I backed uk everything already
@@JerrySchulze the other thing that needs to be re paired is CARPLAY ... I also noticed in the wallet certain cards like Disney annual pass did not port over so stuff like that needs to be redone... actually, the best way to do is just back up your important data (not photo and video files), then setup your new iphone as new. if you use the same apple id as the old iphone, it will automically restore the same apps and data to the new iphone. you just need to manually setup your cellular connection after the initial setup completion.
