In my case it was more complicated then typical phone carriers since I currently have cricket wireless lol if you have any of the big phone carriers you should be fine.
Right on. Just finished mine, went fine as well. I had eSim with Xfinity for my primary already and that was seamless, but I have a foreign sim card on my SE I'll have to transfer somehow when I get back over there. It's a little different with a few things to get used to, but so far the 16 Pro is really nice.
I backup my iPhone to my Mac, so in the past I've plugged my new iPhone into the Mac and let it setup from that backup instead of using iCloud. I've also used the iPhone to iPhone cable connection method as well. Both are very much faster than using local Wi-fi and restore from iCloud.
You really can use a cable to directly connect 2 iphones together, right? Its so weird; I see apple's official support article on it, but virtually nobody talks about it online... I guess just nobody knows or cares? Everyone uses icloud?? I'm going to try the cable tonight I think....!!!
How much time will it take to restore my data .. that is the process that you talked about at the end of the video , like downloading the apps and downloading the photos from icloud , everything .. how much time will it take and what should i do in that period of time ? Anything required to be done by my side ?

Great video, clear instructions. Best was learning I didn't have to purchase more icloud storage just to transfer to new iphone using the cloud. For some reason, when I tried using the 2 phones, it would get to a point and tell me the 'new phone' didn't have enough room. the old phone had 99gb free, so I'm not sure why the new phone said not enough room to complete transfer.
Thanks for this! I've done it a bazillion times but it's always nice to review the process while waiting for my new iPhone to arrive. I especially appreciated the advice to restore from iCloud--which would not have been my instinctive choice--because I needed to get up an running in short order so I would have a functioning iPhone when leaving for an appointment.
Hi Jerry, good video! If you could please help, I have old iphone7 with old IOS version , and now 16 Pro, so can I just start fresh with 16 Pro, and on iphone 7 just backup evecrything to the cloud, and then from iphone 16 Pro login to cloud and download the stuff all without paring the two phones? Also can it transfer the Whatsup files/messages also or I could just put my phone number when opening Whatsup on the new Pro, and then it will restore? Also, does it need to be connected to wifi in order to upload/download from cloud or it can be regular internet connection?
Yes you can set up as new and anything that syncs with iCloud or has iCloud backup can be downloaded on new. WhatsApp can backup to iCloud (go to what’s app settings and configure) and when you sign in on new will ask you if you want to restore. WiFi would be best not sure if everything will download over cellular.
Got the new iPhone 16 pro max and it was a hassle it would not let me migrate for two days. It wouldn’t restore from iCloud. I kept getting error messages. Finally today It went through I never had that problem before. All iOS was up to date was on WiFi battery was good to go everything. Just glad it finally migrated without an error message.
Have a question hope you see it today. When setting up new one 16 pro max it’s asking do you won’t to download latest version 18.2 ? Ok when tryed last week on new phone it was over a hour so I turn phone off then after never could slide power off keep spinning going to hello over over ended up sending it back today get new phone so do I download latest version when asks like last time or skip
Sounds like you did a direct migration? You could cancel it. The new phone will go through a reset progress and you will have to start again. The. You could do a full iCloud backup and go that route. Or use a Mac or PC to backup and restore the new iPhone from that.

Curios, have you tried the wired migration. Direct cable connection between phones. I am reading that it is the absolute fastest. Going to try it when my iPhone 16 Pro arrives, later today?

So I have a question, I am a member of a family plan will I need to alert my provider or a member in my plan that I am getting a new iphone, or will I still be a part of that plan when I transfer.
Hi Jerry, does transferring from phone A to phone B transfer the chat history from the apps? Such as WhatsApp. And do we switch SIM card before the transfer or after? Thanks.
For some reason when trying the direct phone to phone transfer, it is only using 4G and not my home WiFi connection so it was saying 5 hours to transfer. I have cancelled it now and plan to do your way with iCloud. One question though, my iCloud backup is only saying 45gb and there is way more than this on my phone when you check storage. Will iCloud transfer everything?
When you do Wi-Fi transfer, it does not use your home Wi-Fi network. It creates its own Wi-Fi network directly from phone to phone. As far as the number is not matching up, a lot of it will have to do with iCloud store data for example iCloud, photos and messages take up a lot of space, but it doesn’t migrate those. The new phone will download them.
I discovered that some of my purchased (money paid, not free) apps could not restore at my new iPhone after using the icloud backup restore. I wonder if direct-WiFi option would have been a better option. It’s too late now since I don’t want to re-setup my entire iPhone again.
No matter which way you do the migration, all apps will download from the App Store. I’m wondering if some of the apps you’re referring to were downloaded with a different Apple ID than the one you used to set up a new phone?
Thanks, nice video. I was wondering about the cell number transfer. This confirms I don’t have to go to the Apple Store or carrier to do it. The Apple Watch feature is cool! Thanks again!
