Great ep loved your perspective on the 76 it nearly mirrored my reasons for getting one , you are right I would not recommend one for the average punter you really have to want one to live with owning them , they are agricultural and basic but you cant walk away when you park it without looking back and thinking damn that's a good looking vehicle , I love mine and plan on keeping it forever.

Land rover discovery 2 owner here…and completely agree with you guys.
They’re agricultural, with few to no electronics, live axles, and with a few mods they go everywhere and get aost any punishment you give them…
I don’t think anybody can dislike these 4x4 sw’s. Except those ecolofakeists who claim a plugable electric full of lithium and a 10 year life expectation if not burnt befire is cleaner than any car that lasts 30 years with same pretty much everything except oils and maintainance parts, bit se plastics, metals, bolts, nuts, cables….
      ENJOY IT!!!! Cheers

An excellent and informative video, thank you for sharing. I went into a dealership excited for a troopy or 79 series but they had a 2nd hand 76 series there so I could get an idea of how they drive.
When I returned from the test drive 10 minutes later, I had fell in love with the 76 series and wouldn’t need to add a tray/canopy and all the other bits and pieces to start using it. Nice to see your perspective.

Great review mate, older bloke who non tradie went 76 in 2017. Did a few mods including a safe ecu remap, done cape, high country and plenty more. Still get comments like “ no smoke” Pulls hard, super reliable. If you dont go crazy on them they will reward you when you need them. Cheers

Love the 76 and wagons. I’d say a 100/105 is the better choice unless you actually want the old school look. A lot more refined and modern, and can be used straight out the box

Your rig is looking sweet.👍If someone would have told me 10 years ago that I'd love the Sandy Taupe (or beige) on a 40, 70 or 80 series LandCruiser, I would have replied, that they've got rocks in their heads. But for the past 4 years, a Sandy Taupe LandCruiser has always caught my eye, and if I was in a market for a 70 series (eyeing 78 series prices), my first choice is the Sandy Taupe.

Hi, good choice, great looking vehicle, all that matters is you and the family are happy.
But as I've written before on some other video comments, I own a FJ62 series Sahara "86. For the last 25 years with over 700k on the clock. Very similar in dimensions and even looks(sort of) to the 76.
But everybody keeps saying the 70 series is over priced, I disagree, the reason is, comparing a, let's say, HJ61 diesel Sahara with a 76, the Sahara in 1987 cost $58.000, yes 58.000(!!) the FJ62 was $52.000 in the same year, you say Sahara is/was top of the line in that time, but really compared to now they are pretty basic. Anyway my point is that specifically the 76 is not that much more expensive taking into account how prices have risen in that 37 years, and you still get the same quality and feel with your 70 series. I think you made a good choice. Not for everybody as is my 62 but I know it's very difficult to find something so versatile, reliable and strong as a 60 or 70 series. I also own a 100 series LX470, nowhere near the strength versatility of the 60 or 70 series. Beautiful car with all the fruit but give me the 60 to go bush with.

I think you have sold me on the color. It's mind blowing how much you need to spend on these things, though. My build is over $40k. Just wondering if you were concerned at all with having a child in the car with the lack of safety gear in the 70 series? For example, there are 2 airbags, vs 10 in the 300 series.

There's no denying the '76 is the best looking in what ever colour you pick. I commute to work from a fairly rural area and by far the most 70s I see are completely stock (including tyres and rims) single cab 79s with those dropside plywood trays.

Good info and enjoying your channel. I noticed you're running a cable from your rack down to the top of the right side rear window?? I've been considering that option for my 76. I'm interested how you've set it up and how well it seals - dust and water. Cheers.

I just got my new lc76 and my rego paper says its GVM is 3660kg. Did Toyota just fudged the number to get away with ADR85 or they modified my car?

    • @Supremetouringaustralia

Mine actually did the exact same on my rego papers, but when I got the car engineered I was told the rego papers won’t be what they want they will open the bonnet and look at the compliance plate and it says the gvm on there so if that says 3660 your good to go.

The best thing we as buyers can do, to force Toyota to design and build these things with 2022 technology instead of 1984, is to NOT buy them. When sales dwindle, they will take notice. Until that happens, they will just keep churning them out and suckers will keep lapping them up.

Well for that style and price range in the Australian market the only other choice you have is a Jeep Wrangler or a Landrover, Which has less power and parts are harder to find as to the Landcruiser, parts are easy to get even in the most remote parts of the country. Also reliability is far better. Anything else on the market that is similar style your looking at another 20-40k and they’re all heavier on fuel.
