- The UK High Court decision to grant Julian Assange’s request to appeal against his extradition to the United States provides a welcome, but temporary stay and hope for the campaign to free him, while continuing his punishment-by-process at the hands of Australia’s closest ally.
It’s been 12 years since Julian Assange has been free.
United States President Joe Biden told reporters he’s considering Australia’s request to drop charges against Assange for publishing thousands of sensitive military and government documents, but the fight to free the Australian whistleblower isn’t over.
Join Jennifer Robinson, international human rights lawyer and legal advisor to Julian Assange and host Ebony Bennett to discuss the road ahead for the WikiLeaks founder in this Australia Institute webinar.
“Reporting on a crime should not be a crime. Assange’s case is a political one - he continues to be punished for embarrassing the United States by drawing attention to possible war crimes by its military forces. Australia, in contrast, has acknowledged war crimes perpetrated by its soldiers,” said Dr Emma Shortis, Senior Researcher at the Australia Institute.

Jen Robinson, you absolute legend.
Thanks to the Australia Institute for the lone voice in the wilderness.
Just want to free Assange as soon as possible. He is one of the great friends of world peace loving common people.🌺💚 -bmd
So important that we fight this.
Doing great work. I pray you succeed.
Yes, Robinson is excellent. 🌺💚🙏-bmd
Weak Australian politicians are not even able to demand the immediate release of Julian Assange. The Weak Australian politicians are not even able to tax the resources and mining companies that lobby the government to subsidise their own business without contributing to the national economy. Qatar collects $68 billion dollars every year in taxes and royalties for all the people of the country. Alaska has been collecting taxes from their gas and oil companies. What good are any politicians that can't represent the people of Australia?
Indeed.
They represent only those who slip donations under the counter.
Sounds like good legal arguments.
Great interview. Jen should consider going on Ben Shapiro’s Sunday special. It’s an election year and he has a significant following.
It might place pressure on American politicians to do the right thing.
Talk on a right wing podcast about a whistleblower who was charged by the Trump administration for American war crimes...
Wikileaks also wrote articles about Israel and Shapiro is a Jew who supports the regime...
Ever seen a lead balloon?
The phrase "business as usual" describes the Forever War dedicated to fossil fuels exploitation of the world's population at the expense of government health and welfare obligations.
Wake me when Jan 6th arrives in Australia. Its the only way to change now.
Why wait a dozen years?
