About the Guest:
Brig Debashis Das served 28 years in the Indian Army with distinction and voluntarily
retired in May 2016, to pursue his dreams in civilian life.
His expertise in counter terrorism resulted in several tenures in Jammu & Kashmir
and also the North Eastern states of Manipur, Nagaland & Assam. He has been in
the forefront of numerous anti-terrorist operations and has personally led several
high risk missions. He has also taken active part in the Kargil War.
During his service he has been decorated four times including a President Award
(Sena Medal) in 2009 for distinguished service while conducting anti terrorism work
in Manipur.
A thinking soldier, he has graduated from JNU, completed MSc from the Madras
University, M Phil from the Osmania University and is also a graduate of the
prestigious Defence Service Staff College, Wellington. He has also been selected to
attend various coveted army courses like the Staff Course, Senior Command Course
and Higher Command Course.
While serving in the Indian Army he was selected to attend a number of seminars,
conferences in India and abroad on varied subjects to include National Security,
Global Terrorism, High Altitude Warfare, Disaster Management etc.
He has conducted joint training exercise abroad at Mauritius, Singapore, Myanmar
and Bhutan with their Defence Forces and also conducted joint training exercises in
India with Defence Forces of friendly countries like US, UK, South Africa, UAE.
Brigadier Das represented India in a World Terrorism Seminar held at Colombo.
Post retirement, he is empanelled as advisor to the UPSC and also engaged himself
in teaching in various government institutions including Police Academy, Narcotics
and Customs Academy, Army Institute of Management, Finance Academy and a few
private sector institutions, as well . He is also a Freelance motivational speaker with
Harper Collins India. He is currently employed as a consultant for 8 reputed media
houses in English, Bengali and Hindi.
He along with his wife is attached to a few NGOs for pro bono work especially
related to Specially Abled Children and Street Children.
Brigadier Debashis Das has recently authored a book in Bengali which is into its third
edition in 10 months. He is often seen on National and Regional media commenting
on terrorism, national security and international relations.
