- Back in the Sector Z video, I made a comment about how Venom 3 was probably the only stage harder than Sector Z. Well, I decided that I had to take the challenge again, so I played Venom 3 at 60 FPS and recorded it. In my opinion, one of my best runs yet, even though I didn't get 100%.
Looking through the video, I think my only key mistake may have been missing the shield in the beggining. That could have saved me a good deal if I kept it into the tunnel to Andross. I guess I also made the mistake of flying into the projectiles during the fight with Andross. Not very smooth.
But other than that, I think my overall performance was pretty good. I didn't get hit during the first part of the level where avoiding everything is key, and I kicked Andross' ass once I started avoiding everything. Not only that, but I managed to save my wings in the tunnel. Usually, I slam a wing just before the Twin Laser in the tunnel. Not fun.
I realize that there's about 45 seconds of nothing at the end of the video. The reason for that, is when the game is going at 60 FPS, the credits are going much faster than they should, and they don't end with the music like they should.
And if you didn't figure it out, stages 2 and 3 show no score because I took the Black Hole for this path.

This is definitely the best of all the StarFox games. I love the music and the game was put together so well. Despite the old graphics, Andross looks more menacing in this game than in any other. And the music plus the scheme and sound fx just go so well together. This game is legendary already.
he went through the "Blackhole" level in the Asteroid Belt 1 level. When you do that, you never complete the level so you don't get scored on that level. Blackhole is labeled as "Stage 3" and its merely a warp level and you don't get scored in that level either, so the end result is a - - displayed in the final total
its funny how the super smash bros games says that the corneria stage's music isnt that at all, its just Venom

LMFAO! Epic move! I remember the first time I ever got to Venom on route 3, I had no lives left and my wings got chopped up faster than a sliced onion within seconds :(

Makes you appreciate just how much this pushed the SNES's capabilities. On the actual console, there are significant frame drops to make the game work. It's much more easy to see during the descent into the final boss on an SNES compared to this video.
It's not the SNES's fault in this case. The SuperFX chip in the original Starfox ran at about half the clockspeed it was supposed to, while emulators emulate the chip at full speed. You can get the same results on a stock SNES by swapping in a SFX2 chip instead.

I remember as a kid I FINALLY made it to that second face of Andross, which I felt came out of nowhere... On the easier levels he only had one face and that was it...

I think the StarFox endings are some of the most gratifying and worthwhile I've ever encountered; always made me feel good, but challenged me to play another round. Although it helps that the percentages never really made a whole lot of sense to me. :D Ah, the memories! Thanks for uploading.

Holy balls you went beast mode on Andross after he brought you down to your last hit. Kudos! Love this game btw it's a true classic. I wish they would make another Star Fox game as good as this and 64 :S
Well, they DID make a Star Fox 64 3D for the 3DS.... that game was good.
this game for me, was a glimpse of what was to come, the first game i ever played with "3d" deep graphics, and voice over, the first game ever of the 5th generation era(and on my personal opinion the one we are still in) was born in the 4th 2D gen, the generation also that saved the video game history as a whole and 5th which saw its expansion and turned it into a pilar of the economy , and Starfox was part of the 2.
The music they used for the Venom stage was similar, if not the same tune, used for the Star Fox stage in SSB, which I think originated in Star Fox 64.
I can't believe that they had voices back on the SNES! That's really neat.

This level (and a lot of the game) looks like a geometrical NIGHTMARE!!
To this day I still consider beating Level 3 on this game to be in my top 5 gaming accomplishments.
I just beat this game on hard mode and when I was fighting Andross's Devil Horned form. I lost one of my wings and only had the puny blaster you start with. Then I was running low on shield and I just kept barrel rolling and blasting hoping to God I won't die because I had no lives left. Then I finally shot An dross down.... I survived o. zero lives, puny blaster, one wing, and no shield. Not fucking kidding...
haha Awesome! I just beat this myself with 0 lives left and just a sliver of life. This game was pretty epic.

Oh god... took me three years to beat Starfox SNES on all three difficulties. I always died at the Great Commander.
I've beaten the entire route 3 before, and I must say, you did a very good job here. Sector Z is my least favorite in the entire game. :(

Your definition of "pretty good" must be my definition of "masterful." It could practically be Fox McCloud himself! I didn't think anyone would be this good, and I bet I could literally say you're 10 times better on your worst day than I ever was on my best! If the Star Fox Team really exists then they'd better sign you up, because I'm convinced I just saw what an ace can do!
Wow i've never seen that bull face! then again, i've never tried any path except 1..i cant beat the second level on path 2, and i've played this game since i was a little kid! one day i need to attempt it. also, i love the music that plays during the Venom mini boss, its so catchy to me for some reason.

Ooh I've only beat the 3rd path once when I was digging up my old SNES games I never completely finished. This and Mario Bros. Lost Levels were really difficult! Great job!
God, I hate the Great Commander. He's a pain in the ass for me. I don't know his weakness.
While TheNewerGuy may be a good player, I can't see anything extraordinary and off the scales so it deserves praise like that.

wow proness. I wish I was that good. Just yesterday, I managed to get to stage 7 on route 1 and i died on the boss by a laser XD. I also find it funny about the Great Commander's weapon being "Iron Balls"

Anyway I like ending. Where Fox & co. is teaming up and preparing to take off back home. It reminds me off a movie or something.
Also the credits theme and the introduction of the characters you have killed - those are a nice ending credits =).

OMG, youre really good. I remember each time i got to Venom Base 3, It was almost impossible for me to kill Great Comander. And sometime i spend 20 mintues at only that battle!!

i think they used the other music on the venom stage coz they may have had a diffirent tune for venom on the other games. i should maybe check out venom on lylat wars or starfox adventures coz im not really sure.

This is the main music in Corneria on SSB Melee. But that game has venom as a stage, makes me wonder why they didn’t have this music be on that stage.

One time I was doing this and those walls with the arrows I shot it so it would avoid me but I recently saved Slippy and he shot it the other way and it nailed me. That stupid toad. >

I gotta try that out. I think my friend told me that star fox without framerate is nearly impossible because of reflexes the lag gives you. Interesting how the game and music was created to fit the lag.
Yeah, I know that. I'm saying why DIDN'T they use it for the Venom stage.
This, this is the only Star Fox game I like. First they canceled Star Fox 2, then they made the arwings into stubby like toys, then they just got downright silly.
This level is easier if you stay more towards the center, I think. It always frustrated me how that last enemy before the boss is completely out of range.

THe SNES version is alot harder than the N64 version.

The most annoying part is when you save them and they linger in your line of fire, absorbing hits intended for enemies.

In fact you have this demon's head ONLY if you get the route 3 : the most difficult route of the game. Maybe have you just done the route 1 and 2 :)
