@danjohnson That’s no knitting needle. It’s the fabled crochet hook that will go down in UA-cam presentation history !

When the alien archaeologists find a crochet hook they will think it's for directing the viewer's focus in UA-cam videos.

Mazes is great! I love how it's set up to tell short stories using a stable of characters. It's one of the better systems for S&S style play I know of.

This was really interesting! If I was on a desert island I'd like to have some dice. I like how intelligently the odds shift for each character type.

Great review, thanks! I like the dice system, it seems clever. But I won’t be getting the game, I have too many already 😅

Interesting, I’ll have to look more into this one. I like the way it takes the linguistic approach of using descriptors, edges, and drives like in Freeform Universal, but marries them to a more substantial system for dungeon crawling. The magic system also looks cool to me.

Treasure in Mazes reminds me of the way I have sometimes used "cyphors" in Numenera. Have the player describe how using the treasure produces the desired result. It's a fun narrative touch.
    Cheers!

In terms of treasures, the HEART RPG is kinda like that, where you gain resources as treasure to spend on other actions.

The dice system is not a million miles away from Pathfinder Adventure Card Game which is excellent

I found it good for solo roleplaying with a group of 6 characters, three warriors at D8, D10 and D12, and three support at D4, D6 and D6, with a viking shield wall as melee tactics.

I found it useful to have "1" on the effect as being another "critical" as well.

Treasure seemed odd to me at first, but it's not bad, actually. You could just call it "resources." So instead of detailing everything you are carrying, you just use treasure. You need a rope to solve this puzzle? Spend treasure and pull that rope from your bag. Found a bunch of treasure after defeating a foe? Don't detail every item, just add to your treasure. Then, later, when you need something, spend treasure and say "good thing I found this after that last battle!"

I did the same exact thing with the "dust cover"! Slowly peeled it off, then stuck on clear tape to keep the remaining stickiness from ruining the facing page

Sigh! That was a really poor design decision on their part… I wish they had kept that thing just loose or whatever….taking it off that way ruined something about the book but having it stuck on was too annoying!

I always enjoy new mechanics, and the core one-die-per-character approach is fresh and interesting. However, I felt the system as a whole was too gimmicky and sometimes too abstracted. I also agree with GG that the approach of having the DM be actively against the players is very un-RPG-like.

Not at all. The rules are simple, but that doesn't mean bad. Every game boils down to "roll a die and get a certain number." It's the same here
