Just personal experience here. I have a kl503hd and I drive it with a 6 watt deadkey and 35 watts swing. Been running it for about a year. Never had a problem. I also have a kl703. I drive it with a 6 watt deadkey swinging 40 watts. Been running it for about 5 months. Never had an issue, and it hardly even gets warm. I'm not saying to do this. If you do, it is at your own risk. I'm just sharing my experience. Both amps are awesome! I talk all over the country all the time.

I'm not into competition, so I prefer the Straight Four amp. I can run my Stryker 955hp at any DK I want and my amp will just loaf along at half the speed it is truly capable of. I get plenty of swing with no splatter or distortion (per my scope). Yeah, I could push it to a full gallon with more drive, but I don't want to stress my beautiful Straight 4 amp and it will last a long time. The locals get into some long discussions occasionally and I never feel my amp getting too hot with long key downs.
Okay so you were talking about a.m. 2 watts dead key but what about on sideband the amps always say they can take up to 20 watts on sideband wouldn't a stock sideband radio at 12 Watts be fine to drive it on side band?
Good information my problem I have a yaesu 857 a.m. on the low side it does maybe 6 Watts and swings up maybe to 8 watts not another 8 watts just a watch and to find an app that can handle that is like looking for unicorns by the way p by the way I can't get a hand shop to adjust the power settings on that radio I'm sure there's a way
I've got a new rocket box hd 250 and it doesn't do crap even with rf power set to 3 watts with it swinging to 20 what am I not doing right this thing should work right?? Any ideas?? Thank you.
Stupid question for low drive amps dead key 3 watt and modulate 30 watts wouldn't the modulate pep watts still be putting a pass thru watts thru the amp what's the difference between that isn't it still considered driving the amp.thanks love the videos. Aloha from the mini grass 🤙🤙🤙🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️
Hey Rooster, great info! Looking for an amp for a Lincoln II+ in a mobile set up. Need to also know if I need any additional equipment if using just the stock alternator.
I have a tc300 and a bj300 plus I run them with the switch in high drive all the time. 2 to 3.5 watt dead key. If I turn on low drive 1 watt dead key max.also run s s b that way sometimes. Hopefully running them right.
I'm going to run the 2×4 with my cobra 142gtl and I'll run one of my 2950dx dead key 2 watts and swings 20 on it once in awhile the 4 pill 2879c would be a good box to run my RCI-X9 on.

Just wondering if you use this combo as a base or in your car?...what powersupply for use as a base?
I run a 955 on a davemade 4 pill. Beautiful combo in my opinion :)

I would suggest to newer guys to get a radio with a variable or a dial a watt so they can turn their dead key to the proper carrier

The RM KL503HD works great up to 15 Watt input, after that it has a short life
