  • Gutter Supplies demonstrates how to make a swan neck for rainwater downpipe using two offset bends and a small piece of pipe.
    Two offset bends are used along with a small offcut of downpipe to make the swan neck shape that returns the downpipe from the eaves back to the wall. These bends are a push fit connection so no glue or sealant is required. Usually referred to as swan neck bends.

    Wish all diy video's were as clear and concise as this. He clearly knows what he is talking about. No awful music in the background.
    Well done, very helpful video.

    Exactly what I have been looking for. After 4 years fitted by a professional it has came away so now I know what is needed to fix this 👍👏

    Brilliant. I replaced mine today, as now the bottom of the swan neck goes INSIDE the downpipe. Nice and dry.
    Previous the bottom of the swan neck went outside/over the downpipe, which had water dribbling all over the downpipe.
    Great video.

    This was brilliant, clearly explained and demonstrated. I got my new downpipe put up and re-routed round a couple of turns in less than an hour! Thanks

    A very clear instruction from someone you know will do a good job - as shown. I'm looking at fixing what was a very good gutter but ruined by the neighbours contractor who soon went out of business! The wrong profile, the wrong height, and the wrong side of boundary!

    Thank you so much for showing how to join a facia gutter outlet to the downpipe.
    Would like to know if the two small sections of pipe that you cut to connect the two bends is of the same diameter as the downpipe ?

    Very intersting, but you could if you wish safe the paper & pen idea and simply place the spigot into either end of both the running gutter outlet and the downpipe and simple measure across the space for the correct size of pipe required.
    I generally use a self tapping screw to retain the running gutter spigot in place and free up both hands.
    Don't mean to be a know all here, but my experience here is just hands on figuering out the job as I go along.

    Or just stick both 45 bends in the down pipe and outlet measure the distance between then and cut your pipe

    The last piece of pipe you cut. What's it for? And how did you determine its length?

    • @jeffreylewis9114
      @jeffreylewis9114 4 роки тому

      Its length is determined by how much too short the bottom pipe was.

    But it won't work, cos whats if dowpipe facing to floor its much lower that on your video that's means it won't work your measurements, I'm I right?

  • @leoalagaratnam3907
    @leoalagaratnam3907 2 роки тому

    Was the downpipe just resting on the floor at the bottom when you offered it for the swan neck mesaurement or already fixed in place by other brackets further down?

    If it takes you this long to do a couple swans, the whole job must take you ages!!!😱😱

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  2 роки тому +1

      This video was created for educational purposes and doesn't reflect the actual time taken to do it without talking through each step. 🙂 That being said, the time taken will of course vary depending on the size of each job.

    Sorry to be a picky, but you haven't explained why you have to put small short pipe between bends? Can you explain

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, thanks for your comment. One end of the offset bend is female (a socket) and the other end is male (a spigot). The small piece of pipe acts as a sleeve between these two ends and fills the gap between the bends. Hope this helps!

    • @jjpassion121

      You didn't add cos without small pipe there will be a leak you mean? Also if dowpipe is not like yours length wise that kind measure won't work am afraid

    Do you have adapters to join to a narrower pipe? our builders left the main down pipe empty into midair. Think its 2.5" diameter

      Jaydon Towers no you cannot it's mainly push fit just get the measurements right and your fine

      You can solvent weld them but we wouldn't recommend it in case you need to take them apart for cleaning at any point.
