In the previous episode, she gave him the handmade chocolate with the letter "ki" on it. So, in this ep, she gave him the muffin with the letter "su". And get what? "Suki" is what she means to tell. But eventually, she knew that he wouldn't get it, so she broke the muffin in half, to reveal the heart.
she actually gave a GI (ギ) From Giri that everyone was doing, bit sure the gimmick is ignoring the strokes and ir bexomes KI (キ)
In the manga karte 70, Ichikawa actually questioned if the test chocolate he got behind the curtains was "Ki".

@@jorgealberto8544 You can just look properly at the anime. ki = キ and Gi = ギ, so then you tell me which is which (you can google katakana alphabet so you can be sure I'm not joking).
The thing is in the manga is different, Yamada remove a bit of the strokes (but not everything) so the Gi kinda becomes a Ki, then comes the joke "Ki? Whats Ki stand for? Kimoi?"
But this gimmick was removed from the anime so much that when Yamada gives to Ichikawa, both strokes are clearly there, so its a Gi, but of course the intent is the same.
The author is really creative in making cute/touching moments, due to her great comical timing. The manga has this yonkoma-esque quality.
She's probably playing with innocent guys' hearts in her free time. lol.

Some fun trivia about the last name of Yamada and Ichikawa
山田(Yama-da) is Moutain-Field
市川(Ichi-Kawa) is Town-River
Mountain (in literature) usually means: beauty, confidence
River means: tranquil, calm, and harmony
Both show the character’s so well, but moutain and river when together represents the two pillars of nature and means eternal. The yin and the yang.
Their love is literally eternal.
*Japanese last name usually are taken from the scenery where their ancestors used to live.
Also mountain are usually masculine and rivers are usually feminine in nature. I think this is supposed to be a intentional role reversal by the author.
Norio-sensei is a genius. If the series continues to be adapted at this level, you're in for so much more. I wish I could be experiencing this story for the first time again.

This season is certainly doing a good job, but there are a few subtleties that aren't transfered - makes me a bit sad. Tho seeing everyone in motion and actually hearing the character's voices is great.

The letter on the chocolate was 'ス' (Su), the first letter of Suki = Like/Love. Just like how they wrote obligatory in those chocolates they made for other guys.
I love how every episode is just another step forward towards their relationship growing more and more. It's done so well

Some thing that may go over people’s head
In ep 3 Yamada makes a chocolate with the Japanese letter ギ/キ (Gi/Ki) and in today she gave a letter ス (Su) which are two letter that spells out “Like” (Su-Ki) if she were to have written リ (Ri) that would’ve meant “Obligatory” (Gi-Ri).
Also smudging the chocolate on his face to make a heart.

Yeah that is what I am saying. Yamada is being very patient with Ichi. Any other girl would have desist or starting to feel unwanted but he was quick to give physical affection when she requested it. At this point Ichi should realize that this is actually happening and now is his time to take the leap. His fear to scare away his crush by offering unrequested love to someone who thinks of him only as a super close friend should be melting away with so much patience and tenderness from Yamada. I got misty eyes when she grabs his arm too.
I feel like Yamada has a problem too, in the bike scene I really feel like she is afraid that the relationship will change and she is happy with what they have now
I watched this episode at work on break and I forgot to breathe the tension the buildup to that confession like nothing needed to be said Yamada left all the signs I love her so much and my boy Ichi did not disappoint he has grown so much Im sorry if youre not watching this then y'all missing out last episode we see Yamada briefly cutting out the Japanese characters for
suki - I like you so when she tore the cupcake all Ichi saw was su which is why he was saying li... but he realized what was on it and I am beyond excited to see how Ichikawa is going to confess or respond on White day My heart was beating hard after this episode I had to go watch some relaxing Sign of Affection to calm down.

This episode is pure diabetes. It’s especially wholesome to me because Yamada is doing her best to make her feelings obvious but at the same time being patient as she can for Kyo. I melted at “It’s okay to get the wrong idea”

Yeah she's getting a heart attack for a certain episode that could potentially happen this season (seeing the op and some characters that appear there)
The thing i love about, not only this show but all anime romance shows, is like how she puts it. "A slow burn romance." Or really, just a subtle, sincere, honest show and declaration of romantic affection and love for one another that these shows demonstrate. Western ideas of romance take all the subtlty and caution out of it, instead we go for blunt, in your face ways of going about it. Which while beneficial in not mixing messages, lacks what you see demonstratwd here. A build-up, a slow but more mature understanding of one another, as well as room to blossom into deeper feelings that cushion harder times and feelings. The art of subtlty is important. Emotional foreplay, if yoy will.

if in japan someone says SAYOUNARA to you it means forget about that person forever it is a very strong word there is no similar word in english or spanish. that's why that ending had such a great outcome, There are many such words or phrases in Japan that have special meaning to them.
I guess a similar English word would be farewell

Ichikawa's character development shows up when he brutally owned Pickup senpai, which is the reason why he is the Short King.
Also, Yamada saying "Sayounara" to Pickup senpai is not your typical way of saying goodbye. The usual way is either "bye-bye" (バイバイ) or "jaane" (じゃあね), but saying "sayounara" (さようなら) means "Goodbye because I'll never see you again".

9:05 This unsubtle directness was what was needed to break down Ichikawa's "she can't like me because I'm not worthy" shell he has around his heart. He always searches for an alternate "misinterpretation" meaning. Yamada needed to be this blatant in order to give him no other possible excuse. "No obligatory chocolates." "Here's your chocolate." "It's OK to get the wrong idea." Even Ichikawa is forced to accept the truth at this point.
