  • A new year comes with new goals and resolutions. This year I've got some cool updates to my tracks as well as cool new tools to maintain them with. The updates have been awesome so far and we're having a lot of fun on both of my off-road tracks!
    My goals for the year are to have more people run at my house and help them get faster for racing. As well as do some racing myself, and be more prepared and competitive through the process. I'd like to run nitro buggy but we'll see if I have the opportunity.

    Another great video! Love the detailed thoughts and commentary. Does the pump use 40v too?

      No it doesn't need that kind of power. It's an 18v

    The wall jump is a great addition to slow cars down before the turn. You have a few well placed features that share design elements with SX/MX. Really interested to see how the wall banking comes together- some 1/10 indoor tracks have rather wild wall turn sections which add a lot of variety to a track, and MTB really uses a lot of dirt to wood turns on courses. Thanks again for sharing the updates.

      Testing it today. I think it'll be awesome, but it won't be specifically a wall ride. I'm sure it'll get used but don't see it being the fast line

    Great stuff, I'm planning on adding a giant bermed oval with a more technical track inside of it. At least, that's what I'm thinking. funny, sometimes I like working on the track over driving. Nice layout, good tips.

    That's a lot of work for what looks to be mostly by one person with a rake and a shovel. Good job. As far as my thoughts on the 8th scale track: I'm thinking that the big banked turn on the right side would be good without the jump in it. That way you could really put the power down, possibly drift around the entire turn, and carry a lot of speed onto the front straightaway before going back into the slower, more technical part of the track. Speaking of the tech section, I totally dig it as I'm a fan of having the occasional jump right before a turn because it feels so good when you absolutely nail the timing on it.

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  7 місяців тому +2

      The jump after that right hander is one of the only table tops I've ever built on my tracks, but it was built for the other direction. When you can square it up and launch it all the way over you can carry all that speed you're talking about... I do agree it needs some work. That'll be what I work on next up there. And yes 99% by hand, appreciate the comment!

    That is a lot of work but it is so rewarding when it is done and you can race on it. Love your tracks! And thanks for sharing what you do 👍
    I just got into a club in my local town and I was wondering if you can recommend a good transmitter that I can use and grow with (like add more models and somewhat future proof). The one I have now (DumboRC) is fine. But I have been noticing that the range isn’t so good…I have to hold the controller a certain way or walk closer sometimes. What do you use?

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  7 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! It's kinda like my home gym with a bigger reward when I get to run on the tracks... radio wise. I have the Sanwa M12SRS, it was a little clunky feel wise compared to the comfort of my Futaba. Once I was comfy with the size and feel I love it, and the menus are better than Futaba. Those are the two brands I'd go with... a 4pm from Futaba is a little more affordable and cheaper receivers too with the features and adjustability you need. I think you'd have to get an MT5 now from sanwa unless you jumped up to a M17, but can always buy used.
      Only thing I don't like about my setup is the receiver ports are super tight so a lot of time I take a hobby knife to the end of the servo and esc wires I'm putting in. Hope that info helps.

    What is the invested time per week for upkeep? I have about 3/4 acre back yard and I would like to make 1/2 acre into a track like this.

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  9 днів тому

      Lots of variables. But I'd say I'm spending an hour or two a week unless there's projects. Plenty of weeks the tracks sit there and I come back to them and get them back in shape. Mid summer we hang at the oval so there isn't tons of watering

    Out of curiosity, what, my girlfriend wants to get an RC Buggy, she saw the Arrma Typhon and she liked it, so what are your thoughts on this for her first RC Car?

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  7 місяців тому

      Do you have cars yourself already Fred? I lean toward race quality stuff just from a quality and performance stand point... you can buy a lot of it used from racers at a big discount on Facebook groups.
      Rtr stuff is a good way to see if she enjoys it, but if you think she may want to race or just be into enough to run often stuff from companies like Losi, Associated, Tekno (most of my stuff), hot bodies, etc... the price tag on rtr stuff is nice but the electronics, especially the radio, leaves a lot to be desired. Check out this video if you haven't seen it already: ua-cam.com/video/wREoTrIa4zg/v-deo.htmlsi=10OdN5tGungVtD_Z

    • @TheRacinJason
      @TheRacinJason  7 місяців тому

      If you do go rtr this is one I like as well... cheaper batteries and aluminum upgrades, radio is a great upgrade to something like a sanwa MT44 or Futuba 4pm. ua-cam.com/video/1Lmm79tuCKs/v-deo.htmlsi=CzuT2FKEkLeJp-uf

    Why would you create a 60fps video with mostly 24fps footage in it? Listen, if you're gonna take advantage of a higher video/timeline frame rate while having lower framerate content in it, please use 30fps or otherwise stick to even divisions of the project/timeline framerate. Like, if you're gonna film 60 all the time and edit in 60, don't throw away frames to get to 24 out of that, that's disgusting looking and the 3:2 pulldown adds judder to an already nauseatingly low frame rate.
    Just cut HALF the frames instead if you like a slightly cinematic look, and otherwise, you can slow down 2x or 3x (50% and 33% depending on how slowmo is expressed in your editing software) and it'll look good in the video. Also, if you film at 60 and derive 30 from it, you need to shoot with a 1/60th shutter speed not 1/125, or the "180-degree rule", or any default setting. Also, if you auto-expose, try to find AND activate "shutter priority mode" for the auto exposure so it can't change your shutter speed and ruin your motion blur by not having enough of it.
    There are a few other things you can do to perfect your footage, and if you MUST have/absolutely prefer the look of low frame rates for whatever reason, I have an alternative solution for you, but you won't have the 3x slow motion ability. I can also explain WHY the 180-degree rule is wrong if you'd like, but I have a bad habit of overcommitting with these comments as it is, so I'll stop here.

      Noted, well I appreciate the comment. Really bad about changing settings to film... would love a hand filming and editing if you're near Seattle. I've actually been considering trying to get a talented videographer out to get better quality shots for me, just not sure it's in the budget yet
