  • This is from my 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300. Applicable for both Gen 1 and Gen 2.
Most replace the ignition however you will need to rekey the whole bike or have 2 keys.
I wanted to attempt to keep my stock ignition so I pulled it apart to see if the cold weld wire issue was the problem.
It is a bit of a hastle to drill and extract the breakaway security screws. The first side got a little mared from the larger bit so I used a small bit. I used a number 1 extraction bit (craftsman).
To replace the old break away screws I got m4-.70x 12button (hex head) screws from Lowes.

Oh wow. I did this in 2010 on my '07 Gen II, and I just now got this recommended to me by UA-cam. Yamaha dealer refused to order the kit or do the recall. They're long out of business now. Edit: I still have that bike. Edit part deux: Local Yamaha dealer (Orlando, FL) was such a dick, I bought my FJR in Asheville, NC during the Honda Hoot.

I would like to mention after a lot of research I find out that only the models with out immobilizer have this issue ,I know for sure that in USA fjr comes with out immobilizer ,in Europe all fjr has immobilizer and the ignition is completely different the only recall we had in Europe back in 2006-09 was for ECU and the "spider" connection cables

I can confirm this is not true. My 04 has an emobilizer and the immobilizer has nothing to do with the ignition switch as it is seperate.
I just had the same issue on mine, also the red wire.

I have a 2004 with imobiliser, similar issue whereby the bike cut out and jo power to my clocks. However my parking lights come on when I put the ignition on.
    Was yours the same?

had the same happen to me last night. 04 Gen 1 ABS. had to toggle the switch in between off and full on for the bike to turn on and start. When in full ON only the parking lights and tail lamp comes on.

@@horeamarinescu1016 will normal soldering work on the terminal?

@@selleys9150 yes. Just give the other wires a touch of solder too as to avoid future problems.
