Ahead of Season 2 I just started watching Welcome To Wrexham! So what better way to get into it than with a series recap.
⚠️ SPOILERS ⚠️
Key talking points:
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds acquire Wrexham AFC, the oldest club in Wales. The club plays at the Racecourse Ground, the oldest international football stadium still in use.
The club was previously owned by supporters after the last owner tried to sell off the stadium and kill the club.
So it will take some investment to revitalize the club. Luckily Rob and Ryan are Hollywood A-Listers.
But, they know nothing about football. So they hire some smart people to get the operation up and running. Shaun Harvey serves as an advisor to the board, Humphrey Ker represents the owners’ interest.
The series starts with the end of the 2020/21 season, which ends in disappointment. Wrexham miss out on the promotion playoffs.
The next season they start to rebuild, bringing in Phil Parkinson as the new manager.
Rob and Ryan see the club in action in-person for the first time, and are enamored with the fans.
Anyway there’s a lot to cover so I’ll leave it to the video.
Season 1 ends with Wrexham losing to Grimsby in the Vanarama National League Playoff Semifinal, confirming that Wrexham will play in the National League for a 15th consecutive season.

As good a show, any genre, that I’ve seen in a long time. As a result, I’m paying $ I don’t have to watch Wrexham games in the US. Crazy & FANtastic!

Yeah it is absolutely brilliant! The insight and bts look at the club is unmatched. At least now some of the games are available on TV being in the Football League!
